The University of Mississippi Medical Center issued the following press release.
Beginning Feb. 17, the University of Mississippi Medical Center Division of Cardiology will offer its Healthy Heart Screenings at Colony Park North in Ridgeland.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Mississippi, accounting for nearly one-third of all deaths in the state and more than 8,000 deaths each year. Mississippi consistently reports one of the highest heart-disease mortality rates in the nation.
UMMC physicians say early detection is critical because cardiovascular disease often develops silently. Screening allows providers to identify risk factors and begin preventive care before symptoms occur.
Risk factors for cardiovascular disease include being over age 40, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, excess weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease.
For a self-pay cost of $100, patients receive a comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation including a CT calcium score, electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs assessment, lipid panel and HbA1c testing.
Healthy Heart Screenings will be offered Tuesdays and Fridays. A referral is not required, though providers may place an order if preferred.
Patients can schedule an appointment by calling 601-815-4321. More information is available online here.

Best $100 I ever spent (although I did it at St. D when they were running a special. If you have heart disease in your gene pool, GET THE CALCIUM SCORE.
KF, why do you always call it UMC when it's clearly UMMC?
Did same years ago at Baptist for $100. Probably saved my life.
it is still $100 at St.D. Not a special. Just the everyday price.
I did it, lead to stress test, lead to dye test, led to triple bypass...98% blockage with NO precursor events. I'd say it did save my life. Just do it!
Years ago, 60 minutes or something did a show about how terrible the most advanced accurate heart screening was not covered by insurance, people in suits were chuffing about how terrible that was so I assumed it must be a 5K test. I called St D to check and the lady said it was $100, I at first thought it was a 100K so I clarified and she reiterated it was one C note. That show is a POS, the message should have been it is a great test and you can walk in, pay one hundred dollars and get 100K worth of good out of it.
Everybody even Doctors and recruiters calls it UMC or University. We all know exactly what and where it is. People with certain tics might need to hear that extra non flowing M to comprehend it. We all know Where St D's is and Baptist. Been to River Oaks?
OTOH, this is a blog claiming journalist credentials but WAPT, WLBT, The Clarion Ledger, WLOX, and WJTV use UMMC.
I guess it’s OK to slur “the ‘Sip”, belch, and giggle, to some. “Errybodee know what we tawkin’ bowt……” No. The correct acronym is UMMC. KF deliberately pokes at things sometimes and it is his blog. He “lays eggs” for whatever reason has popped in to his addled mind at the time.
Longstanding practice by some publishers, designers or writers. Grating to me. Ain’t mah blog. Does anal retentive have a hyphen!?!?
If you plan to up your life insurance, do so before a calcium score test. I had a high calcium score which led to all the other tests, even a heart cath all to find out no other issues ( blockages ) at all. Now because of a high calcium score, I can’t get extra life insurance
