Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
Detention centers typically house violent criminals and detention officers frequently encounter dangerous, even life-threatening situations. Sgt. Stephanie Dodd, a detention officer at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center experienced one of these situations on December 8, 2025, at or around 8:00 pm. Sgt. Dodd responded to a disturbance at the cell of inmate Monica Gandy, who has been indicted on charges of Retaliation Against a Public Servant and Attempted Grand Larceny. The inmate refused all verbal commands and when Sgt. Dodd opened the cell door, the inmate immediately began punching the detention officer. After the two fell to the ground and as the incident was ongoing, the inmate bit off a portion of Sgt. Dodd’s eyelid / eyebrow. Gandy has been charged with Assault on a County Jail Officer and her bond on this new charge has been set by Judge David Morrow at $100,000.
Sgt. Dodd was treated was a local hospital and received multiple stitches to close the bite wound and is still recovering.

Never heard of bond for an inmate that is already in jail. ???
It probably a precaution in case the newly accused inmate gets blessed by a judge on the original charges they were jailed for.
Is this the opposite of taking a bite out of crime?
10:15 That's a good one!
Thanks.
Did the CO get a rabies shot?
@9:30, Do you really think this inmate will get a blessing in Rankin county?
I'd be willing to bet that once the SRT officers got done with the inmate that she is worse off than the detention officer.
The Goon Squad v2.0 will take care of this. Right Bailey?
This is why it's never a good idea to tell someone "bite me."

8:50. Aggravated Assault, especially on a LEO, carries more time.
I wonder if we will ever know the tooth of what provoked this attack. This is gnaw-t going to end well for Ms. Grady. It really is a shame she chewses to act like this. Man, these jokes really bite.
December 10, 2025 at 9:29 AM must be a Cesar Romero fan.
Nope, just a really punny guy. Interesting reference though. Way back there for that one.
Monica Gandy...a complete waste of oxygen. I'm sure she has spawned many children to carry on her legacy of shit and laziness.
