Jackson Mayor John Horhn issued the following statement.
Mayor John Horhn today announced the appointment of Cathy Northington as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Mayor. Northington brings extensive experience in operational leadership, strategic planning, and civic advocacy to City Hall.
“Cathy Northington is a proven leader who understands how to bring people together to get things done,” said Mayor Horhn. “Her experience working with business leaders, community organizations, and statewide partners has prepared her to build partnerships and help move our city forward. Cathy’s background, and heart for Jackson make her the right choice to serve as Chief of Staff. I also want to thank Willie Bozeman for stepping in and providing steady leadership in the interim. I appreciate his leadership on the campaign and his work to put together a great staff. We have a good team, and Cathy’s addition makes it even stronger.”
“I want to thank Mayor Horhn for the opportunity to serve and for his trust in me during this transition,” Bozeman said. “We’ve brought together a strong, capable team that’s committed to supporting Mayor Horhn and moving Jackson forward.”
“A Chief of Staff should build trust, encourage accountability, and help people grow,” Northington said.“My leadership experiences have equipped me to serve effectively in this role, supporting Mayor Horhn and the work of his Administration. I’m excited to get to work.”
Northington’s educational and leadership background include an Executive MBA from Millsaps College, completion of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management, and selection as a civilian attendee of the Military War College in 2023. She also served with the Mississippi Economic Council for 22 years.
Northington previously served in leadership roles that involved coordinating strategic planning initiatives, managing civic engagement campaigns, and organizing events that strengthened economic growth across the region. Her appointment is effective immediately.

Just kidding.
So who had the job before her? What happened to him/her? For those of us who don't have an org chart in front of us. BTW, what was her last job? Whst's the chronological order of her jobs? A few specifics would give more credibility to the announcement. The bio is vague... maybe on purpose?
Her background is impressive. Wishing her the best and progress for the team. We all deserve a capitol city hitting on eight cylinders.

Perhaps Northington is both the antithesis and the antiseptic to eliminate Rukia and her bouncing belly brigades.
I see he took the Joe Biden approach. Only time will tell. Surely it can only go up from here.
Do you think she can persuade Fabian Nelson to pay his past due property taxes?
Her last job and jobs is listed in the release; try reading it next time before asking. And, the person that was in the position before her was also included in the release. Granted, it doesn't say what happened to him (Willie Bozeman, who was in the job only temporarily, agreeing to stay on for the first few months before going back to his 'real' (other) job.) Reading is an interesting activity; maybe you ought to try it sometime.
I mean honestly, I have been in Jackson MS since 1975, I have lost faith in a turn around. Go West
Attending the War College is a good background for some of the downtown Jackson issues.

Chief of Staff/War Department
I'm sure she's a nice lady, however I work with folks just like this. A great looking resume with a lot of "experience", yet at the end of the day have never really accomplished anything tangible. They love to have meetings and conference calls and talk about "leaning into problems" and the "circling back" and other useless corporate jargon in an attempt to sound smart. and talk. and talk. and talk. and send out emails with Maya Angelou quotes and create unneeded tasks for others to do to justify their jobs. Meanwhile hindering her subordinates from actually doing their jobs, who all have to pretend she knows what she's doing. It's exhausting really.
So true. They can talk the talk but rarely can they walk the walk.
I know people that look outstanding on a resume but will fail in any position they are assigned to. It’s sad that people get to fail upwards in our society.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Best of luck ma'am.
Cathy led Leadership Mississippi through the Mississippi Economic Council for a long time and is a dynamic, though sometimes disorganized leader. A wonderful person. She is an incredible connector with ties to industry across the state and beyond. I think Jackson can only benefit from this. Wishing her maximum success.
And then the democraps wonder why they continue to fail.
Wishing Cathy the best! Just hope she can do a great job considering that others at MEC actually did the work. She only took the credit!
They will never connect the dots on that one. Democrat voters don’t know any better.
