The infamous Last Call Bar & Grill on Old Square Road caught fire last night.  Pictures and video tell the story. The fire began after midnight.

It’s safe to say, future crime will see a decrease in the area

It’s amazing how many fires there are in Jackson. Kinda makes you think a lot of these fires may be human influenced.

As a NE Jackson resident about 1 mile away from this building I can say that I am thrilled. Ok now let’s talk Oxford and ole miss!!! Go Rebs! HYDR

Them damn insurance wires will do it every time.

Anonymous said...

Can you say insurance?

When the bank notes rub together and cause a friction fire that the receipts can't put it out.

Urban renewal.

Anonymous said...

future crime may decrease, but there will be no decrease in the number of burned out shells of structures that will still be there 5 years from now. Yep, just set the over/under on how long the charred remains will sit there

Anonymous said...

Beautiful....another burned out structure in the city of Jackson that we'll have to look at for the next 3-5 years.

The Dope Boys will have to find another location, right?

They are closed Mondays. Seems likely that some residentially challenged in the area may have wished to escape the sub freezing temps last night. Easy access to their patio.
Anyone who thinks this place has a problem with receipts is dead wrong.

Who did they piss off that came back and torched the place?

Anonymous said...

Sad to see someone’s business get destroyed. Hope everyone is ok. (Remember when we said such things and meant it?)

Anonymous said...

They pissed off everyone in this area. Especially LE foundation. I’m glad no one was injured but I’m also glad it’s gone!

RIP Former Old Venice

Was that the old Gridley’s?

I55 North Frontage and adjacent environs take on the look of HWY 80 more with each passing day.

Especially LE foundation.

Toothless organization. Tell us exactly what they accomplish?

Last call for alcohol-last chance for romance.

Anonymous said...

All that frying oil and alcohol fueled a hot and fast fire. I'm glad no one was injured and the fire was limited to the one building.

There shouldn't be any bars anyway.

Anonymous said...

Good riddance! All of NE Jackson rejoices!

This is what happens when you don't regularly clean the grease filters in the ventilation hoods.

Chokwe's FOG said...

Oh sure they did. They did the cleaning. Then, per Lumumba, they dumped it all down the sewer line.

that's one way to lean a nasty azzzz kitchen

Residentially challenged.....get real. Nothing but a bunch of junkies hanging out under the bridge looking for sympathy. I see Locke Ward's group has finally given up even trying to pick up their trash. They truly gave it an honest try, but these people don't care.

That trashy, dressed up joint downtown done took all the customers, so BURN BABY BURN.

@9:12am True, but honestly good riddance. Bunch of shitty buildings that should have never been thrown up. Hopefully 55 north of Northside becomes very cheap real estate for redevelopment. Canton Mart, Highland Village, Banner Hall are doing good and are very enjoyable.

I guess since Lane torched your program, this is relevant under this post.

Spoke to Locke recently and he said his group cleaned it up last week.

God bless Locke and his crew then. They have a softer spot in their hearts than I do.

"Canton Mart, Highland Village, Banner Hall are doing good and are very enjoyable."

I'm not sure you can call getting your vehicle broken into or stolen is good and very enjoyable. Happens very frequent at those locations.

"The roof.. the roof... the roof is on fire!!! We don't need no water!..."

That used to be such a nice area: Thai House 2.0, Cherokee 2.0, Mori's, etc. Then vagrants and block parties took over...

Anonymous said...

@10:33am I don’t know what you’re smoking. The area is pretty much spotless right now because of Locke and company. They aren’t camping or hanging out under Northside or Canton Mart anymore either. Some people just love to talk and say negative (and wrong) shit.

Please shut up.

Anonymous said...

@10:33am you just can’t help but be a negative bitch huh? Why drag down a good thing? You should be ashamed.

Anonymous said...

@ 11:26
It doesn’t happen frequently at those locations. Last yr Christmas week my Cherokee jeep was broken into at Barnes and noble in ridgeland though.

Anonymous said...

Will the vagrants be allowed to come back and junk it up again? Why does the City not have the desire to send these folks on their way? Madison doesn't tolerate it. Flowood doesn't. Brandon doesn't. Why does Jackson?

Anonymous said...

Christmas came early for NE Jackson!

Anonymous said...

I wonder if they had gas heaters on the patio and if some of the local homeless citizens tried to partake. (No, I will not use "unhoused" or "residentially challenged")

Anonymous said...

Where should they send them to?

Anonymous said...

@11:26 Baloney. It used to happen but no longer (Cap PD). And I drive a Ford F-150 to these places.

Anonymous said...

@12:09 & 12:06 I drive by that spot daily on the way from the gym. Admittedly, I did not go to the gym yesterday so I may have missed their recent progress. However, for the past several months the place has been a disaster. It's not anybody's job to pick up behind vagrants, but I gave the man a thank you. I've been out there with him picking up the trash on multiple occasions and decided it's not worth my time to deal with ingrate junkies. Have you? KMA

They could send them to Chicago, San Francisco, Minnesota or any other big blue city. Jackson has options.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
