The Capitol Police issued the following statement.
At approximately 11:41 a.m. on November 9th, Capitol Police responded to a call regarding a shooting at a residence on Meadowbrook Drive. Upon arrival, officers found one deceased female from an apparent gunshot wound. One individual on scene was arrested. Additional information may be released when available. This is an open and ongoing investigation. No further comment will be made.
Update (6:30 PM): The victim is Alexius Cotton. The Capitol Police arrested this guy for murder yesterday but it is not confirmed if he is the suspect in this homicide.
JPD arrested Benfield in September 2023 and charged him with burglary of an occupied dwelling. A Jackson Municipal Court Judge set his bond at $75,000. However, Hinds County Court Judge Johnny McDaniels reduced his bond to $25,000 in October 2023.
Judge McDaniels dismissed the case in August because the police could not locate witnesses.

Wish there was some decent reporting in this town. There is not a Meadowbrook Dr. and would be nice to know WHERE on such a big road.
No further comment *will* be made? What does that mean?
It means it is much closer to North State Street than the Pearl River but all headlines are designed to make NE Jackson look bad.
But we have to remember, this section of Meadowbrook & North State is now part of "The Fondren". (More specifically, this fantasy idea of a "North" Fondren).
Anyway ...names of neighborhoods don't matter. Just another sad daily Murder in Jackson.
I find it interesting that you did not post my comment telling you about the local paper’s article naming the victim and that you could check booking records for possible suspect…
Were you confused as to which thoroughfare the article was referring?
A little off subject, but does Capitol police have a police scanner like JPD does? I'd like to know what's going on around there.
Not all of Meadowbrook would be in Fondren. And when Jackson was majority white with white mayors, not all of Meadowbrook was single home residential. Commercial encroachment was already causing a decline in residential values. I'm wondering if some who comment have ever even been to Jackson.
Many of the wealthiest families in Mississippi still live in Jackson. Eastover and CCJ are still highly desirable especially to those who like the conveniences of a city. Indeed, some of you might work for them and ought to watch your tongue! And we can get rather a lot delivered to our doorstep including all our groceries and many restaurant dinners and medicines from pharmacies.
Puke looks like a killer.
Well, if you read the updated version, you will see the victim and suspects identity and picture are in the post. I was already working on it when you made your comment.
