Well, well, well. There is something about the infamous Fondren Taste Bar & Grill that generates drama and last week was no exception after Jackson's Zoning Board rejected the establishments application to operate a hotel of sorts on its second floor. Check out the comments culled from social media. Needless to say, the race card was heavily played:
Sounds like gentrification to me. The whites want their jackson back but don’t want to aid in rehabilitation from the intentional neglect of leadership in the community. Now that there’s a plan in motion(capitol police, John Horne, annexing JXN into communities), all the work that black business owners have built with limited support from the city, are now going to be stripped away because of discriminatory zoning laws and ordinances. Madison jr. And Pearl is right behind them. (KF: And if you haven't noticed, dummy, everyone is moving to those areas because they are nicer than Jackson. That's because they have "discriminatory zoning laws" that stop businesses from tearing down the city. Don't expect you to understand that as some pigs just like to live in slop.) the lies you're telling. Now the club across the street is HOOD & RATCHET Only targeting them because they are POC . I hope this all works out for Latrice (KF: Yup, it's all because they are black. That's why black residents spoke out against the bar.) Taste not even really by no neighborhoods and be close by 12 for most part ! Smh !! (KF: They lie) This is surprising because there are many local bars in fondren that’s makes noise but they want to complain about the black owned one so MISSISSIPPI OF THEM. I love the bar and restaurant when I went great ambiance and vibes. that’s the game they play with our businesses, It happens in every City in Mississippi . I wish them the best and hope it’s approved. (KF: Why they always picking on me?) me too! Her and her husband seem like they bought the business so I’m sure they will push through the haters! (KF: Yup, haters. People hate drunks walking through their yards, donuts, drag racing, sexual activity on their streets, blocked driveways, and house-shaking music until 2 AM. Call me a hater too) boo hoo.. yall make an area gentrified and move in and want to completely run it now Lmao white ppl funny. There aren’t any homes by this establishment. Stop the lying and just say you all don’t want a black business in that area. (KF: I told you these people lie. The bar is right next to residential homes. ) Gentrify and then displace! Same story different day! y’all complain too damn much Maybe I need to, because it’s definitely a problem sometimes when I’m trying to get home and it seems like you the only one complaining about a Black-owned business. Y’all kind of did the same thing with M-Bar, and guess what? They won. You’ve been on people’s necks who are saying it’s not a problem, all because one event got your feathers ruffled for what, though? Trust me, if you think you’ve got a problem now, wait until they keep building, especially those new apartments near my area. I’m pretty sure every event is going to be loud from time to time. Maybe you need to move WELCOME TO JACKSON, MS! (KF: Hey stupid, the Murder Bar had two homicides and another one that started outside and wound up on 220. THAT is why people were so upset about that bar. Of course, that is what thugettes do, whine when they get called out.) You seem so focused on this woman. Did she take your man in the past. Is it because she’s more successful than you? Why are you so but hurt? make it make sense how it’s a public nuisance (that’s what yall always say it’s not about race in reality it’s definitely is) name what’s nuisance about taste bar &grill. You and other yt the only one complaining in this app and like I said FIRST THURSDAY IS DEFINITELY NUISANCE I promise if this was shuckers attempting to do the same thing in the same spot. People wouldn’t be saying anything (KF: Not true, dummy. The Dock pulled that crap many moons ago. Bands played outdoors until the wee hours of the morning. The Breakers residents and others raised hell and it stopped. ) One black resident tried to talk some sense but of course, none of the smart-mouths replied: I'm black. This is my neighborhood. It's not a race issue. We have the most diverse neighborhood in the state of Mississippi. The visitors from Taste park their vehicles all over the place in the residential area. The noise is disruptive when they are trying to get rest on the weekend. There have been flights on the outside. One neighbor has video of people engaging in SA beside her house. They say it's a restaurant but it operates as a club. No one wants a club near their house. The issue is not noise it’s black ownership! Let’s be clear on that (KF: Nope, it's loud black ownership that destroys the neighborhood.) Taste has not been a disturbance.... Tell the real truth. You people are miserable!!! (KF: I guess those videos of all the noise and disturbances after midnight were AI created. Of course, not being able to sleep or enjoy your front yard might make people miserable as well.) Nawl that's cause those bitch aas crackers don't want the Blacks in the area to expandKingfish note: For some people, it's all about race. These clowns call it discrimination and acting white but this is why the burbs don't allow this kind of crap in neighborhoods. Want to guess who is moving into those nice neighborhoods to get away from the Jackson garbage? Blacks. They don't complain about the zoning either.
These people bring back memories of Othor Cain's brigade of buffoons. When some snazzy black woman from Natchez said she bought Metrocenter and had all these grand plans, some of us questioned the "project" because well, the woman had multiple fraud convictions. She bilked investors for projects that never took place. Naturally, Cain and the Buffoon Brigade screamed race and how we didn't want to see blacks get ahead. Nope. We knew we were looking at a con artist and said so. Years later, who was right?

The best decision I ever made was moving out of Jackson. The second best was moving out of Mississippi altogether.
Next
Jimmy you just need to shut the fuck up white boy
3 of my 5 Madison neighbors are black. The stories they'll tell you about why they left NW Jackson make this restaurant problem sound tame. Jackson's problem is that their leaving is not black flight, it is economic flight. Jackson's black middle class is leaving. Fast. Because they can. They've had enough.
I lived in Jackson and the surrounding area for most of my life. Never knew this little development existed north of Fondren. I remember Triangle Mart from a long time ago, never ventured south and east of there. From looking at google maps, there's an event venue a block away. She may have a decent case for her request. Looking at the building on street view, I don't think she can pull it off, with or without city approval. Looks like half the footage of Walgreens, how can you fit "apartments" on top of this?
@1:02 yet you are still checking out this website?
It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.
When I lived in Belhaven Heights, the Kings Hwy area was where I wanted to move because after three car radios were stolen on Whitworth, I had to get out of the neighborhood. I wanted to shop at Jitney 14 and eat at CS's, but I decided that it was just too expensive because of the car window and radio replacement costs.
Of course, I just moved out on Old Canton to Village Glen in Ridgeland until that neighborhood got commandeered, too.
Is Callaway's Lawn and Garden still on North Mart Plaza? No? Wonder why?
"Hood and Ratchet"....sounds like a repair shop.
gentrification: a process in which a poor area (as of a city) experiences an influx of middle-class or wealthy people who renovate and rebuild homes and businesses and which often results in an increase in property values and the displacement of earlier, usually poorer residents
Please explain to me how any part of Jackson meets this definition.
"Is Callaway's Lawn and Garden still on North Mart Plaza? No? Wonder why?"
Gawd ...the memories of that Callaways.
It was our tradition to buy a real Christmas tree there, take it home ..and decorate it while we watched
"A Charlie Brown Christmas" or "Rudolph".
I wonder if anyone remembers
the Quick Car Wash where this "Taste" is now ?
Speaking of this fake "Fondren" (Taste), I find it funny as hell that Black servers are bitching about Black customers that rarely tip.
Two sets of people who live in two separate "realities".
A person is only going to drive himself crazy trying to find middle ground with a group of people who are trained to believe everyone is "racist" towards them. The simple fact is that most people want to live around people (black or white) who attempt to behave and get along with their neighbor. Nothing I've seen in those comments show me that this even an option for the owners or customers of this bar/restaurant.
Give us what we want, let us do whatever we want regardless of how you are impacted, or you're racist. Sounds like a great way to get things done.......
Tell us you are at least 80 without telling us you are at least 80
Agree with 1:02 pm. Moved to and enjoying North Carolina.
Rude yute at 14:51...I'm far from 80 and i remember those places as well. You pay your ghetto tax enough times, you find somewhere else to frequent.
No gentrification looks a lot like the reimagined Farish Street Project
@2:58 & 1:02, I can feel the smugness and arrogance through the screen.. congrats on the move and enjoy being another number. Interesting you keep tabs on this site though!
I would have enjoyed responding to the letter but I couldn’t not follow it. I am going to copy and paste it into ChatGPT and i will be back with a response.
Summary of the Discussion
The thread revolves around controversy over a Black-owned business (Taste Bar & Grill) in Jackson, Mississippi, and allegations of racially motivated targeting by white residents and city officials.
Supporters argue that:
• The pushback against Taste is part of gentrification—white residents and developers reclaiming areas long neglected under poor city leadership.
• Black-owned establishments are unfairly labeled as nuisances while white-owned venues in the same area operate freely with noise and crowds.
• Jackson’s history of discriminatory zoning, policing, and annexation is being used to strip away opportunities built by Black entrepreneurs.
• Complaints about noise or safety are pretexts for racial bias and displacement.
Critics (especially “KF”) counter that:
• The issue isn’t race but public safety and neighborhood disturbance—noise, parking congestion, fights, and even violence near the bar.
• Similar complaints were raised against white-owned venues in the past.
• Defending disruptive behavior by invoking racism is deflection from legitimate community concerns.
Overall tone:
Highly polarized. Black residents express frustration over systemic inequities and selective enforcement, while critics insist the conflict stems from behavior, not race. The debate reflects broader racial and economic tensions over redevelopment and gentrification in Jackson.
The emotions surrounding redevelopment and gentrification in Jackson are understandable given the city’s complex history of neglect and inequity.
Yet, we share many of the same goals — revitalized neighborhoods, successful local businesses, and safe, vibrant communities.
Constructive progress will come from inclusive dialogue: finding policies that protect long-term residents and small Black-owned enterprises while addressing legitimate public safety and zoning concerns. Jackson’s best path forward lies in fairness, not division.
You 'couldn't not follow it'? I'm not following that.
This goofy comment is just too funny.
Only through your eyes. Most folks would be happy for them and would love the opportunity to do the same but are locked in.
Discussing "gentrification" in Jackson is the silliest notion I have heard this week. Jackson should be so lucky! Ain't no white folks trying to move into these shitty neighborhoods to "gentrify" them. Damn some people are stupid. The few "nice" (predominatly ....for now...white) neighborhoods are doing all they can to keep the trash out and streets clean and safe. Damn this city is so fucked up.
" Jackson’s best path forward lies in fairness, not division."
Well Sport, the White folks are not involved with the current Jackson division. That may have been argument 55 years ago.
But not now.
During 2025, it's all about Black on Black government BS.
Not to mention daily Black on Black killings.
hood ratchet is as hood ratchet does. gentrification is the stuff of dreams around here.
Taste aside, Hutto’s lives and is thriving on Ellis Ave. I don’t know how, but they have the best selection and service for lawn and garden in the entire metro area.
8:35, I have a meeting in Jackson tomorrow, I think that I'll go by Hutto's.
Boy is that the truth! Get my maters and everything from Billy and company. I don't know how they have made it there either, but they have.
Thanks!
Typo. I could not follow. And it seems the elderly here have yet to play with ChatGPT
Mississippi is, and always will be, a plantation state. Y’all are just to stupid to understand that. That’s why yall keep electing the same politicians.
I drove around Taste yesterday while in Jackson on business! The business is very close to the neighborhood north of the establishment. No parking signs are posted by a neighbor’s house driveway to not block said driveway. If the business could resolve complaints which I doubt they could because of the proximity of the business to the residents living in the area!
I would suggest not playing music so load, find alternative parking for patrons and hire parking attendants to prevent patrons from parking in the surrounding neighborhoods!
The Mayor and City Council are there to make the hard decisions for the betterment, security and safety of the community and the residents they serve!
Now Mayor and Council go out on an unannounced busy night and see for yourself! Im sure it would be an issue if you lived in that community.
To the owners I would suggest you work with the community close to your property, playing the race card shows lack of awareness and concern for the community needs!
Mayor you’re moving too slow, the community need you action not inaction!
P. S Is it absolutely necessary to blast the music a lower vibe is conducive to a more civil crowd. If your business is that good your patrons will continue to patronize your business. The race card should not be played, this is about solutions!
Just closed a business in Mobile Alabama for similar reasons! No race card, black residents complained!
Needs to be a “scrip” club and be done with it.
Please explain. I must be too stupid to understand.
Well...my goodness! Speaking of strip clubs (where women took off their clothes) I don't remember seeing any people of color waiting to go inside. And, I don't remember the adult book store being in an area populated by poor whites. When will y'all "get" that a lack of education and poverty has been and will be the curse of Mississippi?

Some of us still have to put up with Jackson.
The Rogers stay in Madison but, will not open a business in Madison. They have all these businesses in Jackson. WHY. I know, because Mayor Mary not going for that crap.
I guess this means Cliff will have to go back home instead of spending every night in his apartment above Taste. This is a storyline on Belle Collective that is airing now.

Louder for those that are deaf. I know someone in West Jackson who would love to move but can't. Their house was an inheritance and an albatross.
High tolerance (or deep pockets) for bullshit is my guess.
They live in Brandon. Latrice is from Canton.
Thanks for taking one for the team. The only thing worse than living near Taste would be watching that show.
It’s all become so very, very tiresome.
