Desoto County School Board member Michele Henley stood up for herself after District Attorney Matthew Barton accused her of supporting a convicted child-rapist. Ms. Henley posted on social media:
Lindsey Whiteside pleaded guilty to sexual battery of a child in Desoto County Circuit Court Monday. The former youth pastor raped a girl at her church for six months. Whiteside is 26 years old. Special Circuit Judge Andrew Howarth sentenced Whiteside to serve three years of house arrest and seven years probation. The District Attorney said the sentence was illegal and said he would appeal the sentence.

Yeah, that sounds like an endorsement of Whiteside and her entire family, but what do I know?
You wrote a letter to a judge on behalf of a convicted rapist in the hopes that he would give her a more lenient prison sentence. Am I missing something here?
She's a goodfella.
You don't write character witness statements like that unless you are advocating for a more lenient sentence for the perpetrator. Hell, no one forced her to write anything.
That is totally a letter of support! Maybe she didn't realize it would become public, so now she's back peddling to save her a33. Too late!!
Motion for contempt against D.A. for discussing the letter in public in 3..2....1....
I hope she's kicked off of the school board! She's supporting a child predator & she has kids! It's just so gross!
In the letter to the judge she referenced her school board position not once, but twice. She should have declined to write the letter. She also shouldn’t have tried to clean this up with a social media post. I don’t see how she can continue serving on the DeSoto County School Board.
Wow, KF! You think they'll file contempt against the DA? You gotta wonder what else is going on up there, huh?
I was making it in jest but it wouldn't surprise me.
Hopefully, she is not dimwitted enough to understand that this letter, whatever the intent, would be taken as an ask for leniency for a child molester. If she is that dumb, that is yet another reason (in addition to advocating for child molesters) she should not be on the school board.
Funny how NOT talking to the police is just as pathetic. But let's not address that fact. Both are wrong but the one's living in glass houses aren't usually the brightest...
"You know that letter of support for the pedophile that I wrote to the judge? It TOTALLY wasn't a letter of support meant to condone the actions of a pedophile."
Michelle Henley must think people are stupid. You don't give glowing and warm descriptions of someone unless you are defending them. That's a letter of endorsement, and she was going to bat for a perp.
Yeah she should have just declined to write anything given her position on the board. That being said, the other board members can't force her off so I'm not sure what all the screaming at them will accomplish. If she is your district's representative on the board, bug the crap out of her but otherwise, people need to chill because there is literally nothing the other members can do about her actions.
Hyphenated(?) last name ought to tell you all you need to know.
I wonder if she would have written a letter praising a CONVICTED male teacher/coach?
“I wonder if she would have written a letter praising a CONVICTED male teacher/coach?“
Or a letter praising a CONVICTED non-white teacher.
Which will happen? (1) She resigns and is replaced in a special election; (2) She doesn’t resign and her constituents give her constant scrutiny until her term ends with no reelection bid; (3) She thinks she is above the constant scrutiny, runs for reelection when that time comes, and either wins (voter apathy) or loses (voters remembered this incident).
I can understand the point you are making. But, at some point, human decency should enter the woman’s mind and resign. She obviously wrote a letter in support of the woman in order to help reduce the sentence. Otherwise, she could have declined based on the offense. Ether way, she is trying to CYA because of backlash. The right thing for her to do is step down.
“I wonder if she would have written a letter praising a CONVICTED male teacher/coach?“
It's a hypothetical, but might a more complete hypothetical be something like:
I wonder if she would have written a letter praising a CONVICTED male teacher/coach and she had known the CONVICTED perp's family for years, but has had the privilege of getting to know the perp's family better, to the point they requested the CONVICTED perp personally coach their child and NOTHING HAPPENED THAT'S GOING TO BE IN THIS LETTER.
Michele Henley is in fact a dimwit, and has been exposed.
Shockingly however, is how many other complete imbeciles in DeSoto County's county seat of Hernando wrote letters endorsing leniency for a CONVICTED pedophile - while FLORIDA has instituted into law eligibility for the death penalty when convicted of child rape (pedophilia).
And where on earth is the church leadership of Getwell "Church" Hernando? Why aren't they out front reading their congregation the riot act about their values and behavior? God does not smile on them at the moment.
Getwell Church Hernando should close its doors in shame. I can't imagine anyone wanting to step foot in there again. Gross.

Is the convicted sex offender required to be on the sex offender registry?
Her name didn't come up there just now.
Their legal counsel told them to keep quiet. This goes against mandatory reporting laws of child abuse/rape under Misssisspi law.....
Professionals Required to Report
Citation: Ann. Code § 43-21-353
The following professionals are required to report:
Physicians, dentists, interns, residents, or nurses
Public or private school employees or child caregivers
Psychologists, social workers, family protection workers, or family protection specialists
Attorneys, MINISTERS, or law enforcement officers.
That church will likely be bankrupt within the year. Hope it's former members of their two creepy congregations don't come slithering into our church.
Bread and circuses. The proverbial tempest in a teapot.
