This order only says that the Legislature should go appropriate some money to be used to pay for SNAP benefits. True, as noted in other comments, he fixed this so that the emergency declaration will expire by the time that Congress (both parties - with neither giving in while both do) actually passes another kick-the-can-down-the-road appropriations bill.

Just as the President can't spend money not appropriated by the legislative body, at least Gov Landry recognizes that and acts accordingly. He asks the legislature to appropriate some money for this purpose. (Trump, on the other hand claims he will spend money - tariff dollars today - to pay for some expenses only to be told by Congress "you can't do that"!)

Yes, Landry declared an emergency. But that didn't replace the money that is held up due to the so-called shutdown. He asked his legislature to do so. Nice try, but next time focus on the Governor's AD responsibilities.

And a man pushing a cart selling packages of steaks, presumably bought with a month's worth of his girlfriend's EBT/SNAP/Foodstamp allowance.

Trump should add a 25% national grocery tax on all food items, everywhere in America. This is on top of the current tariffs. This is the only way to get serious about stopping the runaway federal deficit. Instead of free "food", these SNAP recipients will learn something called sustainability with a touch of dignity.

Of these, 175,000 were children (under age 18), 56,000 were adults with disabilities (under age 60) and 57,000 were elderly (over age 60). So, during 2022, 288,000 of the 400,000 SNAP recipients in Mississippi (72%) were children, disabled or elderly. But who cares, right? That's 288,000 unemployed freeloaders, right? They can go to church for help or go find a job if they get hungry. I don't get free food. Why should they? Just 288,000 selfish, freeloading, parasites.

I'm still waiting for some of the anti-SNAP folks to tell me how they feel about bailing out Argentina.

The ballroom is needed. It is also privately funded. No gummint funds are used. When the White House hosts state dinners and large events, too often it has to use those giant tents and yes, portajohns. There is an actual need for such a facility.
