The Mississippi Department of Human Services issued the following statement.
MDHS Announces Temporary Pause in SNAP Benefits Due to Federal Shutdown
Jackson, MS - The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) announced today that due to the ongoing federal shutdown, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for the month of November will not be issued.
This pause in benefits is a direct result of the federal shutdown and is not a state-level decision.
The United States Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has directed states not to transmit the EBT issuances files to EBT vendors until further notice. As a result, no new SNAP benefits will be issued for November unless federal guidance changes, however, previous benefits will remain accessible.
Existing clients are reminded to fulfill all requirements to maintain SNAP eligibility.
At this time, MDHS has not received confirmation from federal partners on when benefits will resume. MDHS will provide updates to beneficiaries and retailers as the situation develops. MDHS SNAP customer service representatives will continue to be available to answer technical questions but will not be able to provide information on the timing of benefit issuance.

Kingfish note: Louisiana's Governor found a way to fund food stamps in November. Governor Jeff Landry issued the following statement Friday:
Today, Governor Jeff Landry signed an Emergency Declaration for Louisiana to help fund SNAP benefits for the elderly, disabled, and children in our State who have been abandoned by Congressional Democrats. Emergency Declaration Attached. We should not allow our elderly, disabled, or children to go hungry because of the Washington, D.C. Democrats’ failure to reopen the federal government. Our social security net is supposed to help the most vulnerable, and we will try to accomplish this with today’s action."My Administration has created over 70,000 new job opportunities in Louisiana since I took office. Wages are on the rise, and our economic outlook has never looked better. This is how we move people from dependence to independence.
I urge those who are able bodied to continue to strive to get off SNAP and similar programs. Due to the Democrat’s political games these programs are not reliable.I encourage our citizens to seek the thousands of new job opportunities across our State, and free themselves from these social programs that the Left uses as a weaponization tool to win political points,” said Governor Landry.

What's this going to do to SuperTalk's ad revenue?
Does this mean we will have to get jobs?
That's sad. I hate that our Congress has allowed itself to be neutered by an aspiring autocrat.
Too many fatties out there, this will help America.
Is LA using their equivalent of our rainy day fund?
This could free up the supply of Ozempic-
Wonder when the smash and grabs in grocery store Walmart's, Sam's and Cosco's start.
Will this mean that vehicle traffic will significantly increase because the mooches/leeches/members of LBJ's "great society"/sponges/welfare queens/where's my free shit crowd/ will be driving around looking for a job?
Nah, probably not, unless they are out shoplifting.
Politicians are shameless low-lifes no matter the party. Far right Repubs thought nothing of shutting down the government if they could not get the cuts they wanted, but that was alright. Now that they have have the gavel the Dems do the same thing and they are outraged. Same ole shit.
just reading on social media that places like Walmart will shutter and do online shopping only for now. Like I said, social media, so expect some trouble.
The grocery shelves will be overflowing with Twinkies, DingDongs, and pastries.
Boo f'ing hoo.
Days of Hunger….chaos. When people start not eating they will do anything to survive.
Thank Democrats for the chaos. They chose not to pass the same bill they have the last 13 times.
No EBT means riots, burnings and total civil unrest. In a state that's basically 50% black (or more), this becomes real dangerous, real quick.
When you live on the government tit, you starve when the milk runs dry.
Never depend on the tit.
A lot of y'all in the comments acting as if you don't get SNAP or aren't related to someone who does. This effects us as a whole.
Yes, mainly because a powerful grocery store co op and a wholesaler has the ear of the governor.
Get a job, don't completely rely on others. Earn your money, you will value it more and it will make you feel better. Live within your means, you don't need a 100" tv.
Democrats are the ones that haven't passed a clean CR.
They will all belong in prison.
The cruelty is the point.
Cue the MSM stories of starving children and poor mothers not able to buy food. Hey, Churches, stop your fake “protests, prayer meetings, and marches”. If you didn’t allow the Government to usurp your responsibilities, the poor would not be in this situation. Providing for the poor is the Church’s responsibility, not the Government’s.

I hope everyone will read this and then take a step back and realize the govt will likely re-open right before the deadline or some other last minute performative bullshit like always happens. We ALWAYS get all hyped up for something and it never happens. Everything is a great big show. Nothing ever happens.
Let’s look at the facts:
42 million Americans are on SNAP benefits.
340 million Americans live in the U.S.
12.35 % of all Americans get free food each month.
How is that fair to the rest of Americans who are paying for this?
It’s not.
Cut them off completely.
Let the churches take care of them.
Mexico doesn’t have a SNAP program & not any Mexicans
are dying of starvation.
Also, the Democrats have VOTED down opening the Government 12 times. Maybe by midterm elections the government will re open.
Illegal aliens don’t deserve free healthcare in this country. So shut it down as far as I’m concerned. I’m tired of charity.
And just who might that be?
We pay for them there also. We just won't have to deal with them.
Does this surprise you in any way? Yet the dems want 1.5 billion for healthcare for illegals.
“We keep hearing about welfare abuse, but the real welfare kings are hiding in plain sight: industrial-scale farmers and grocery conglomerates. In 2024 alone, U.S. farmers received over $9.3 billion in subsidies—money that padded the bottom lines of the largest agribusinesses while small farmers continued to struggle. These subsidies, originally meant to stabilize food production, now disproportionately benefit the top 10% of farms, many of which are already highly profitable. Meanwhile, grocery chains quietly profit from artificially cheap commodity crops and billions in SNAP spending, all while lobbying for more. If we’re going to talk about handouts, let’s start with the ones wearing suits, not the ones using food stamps.”

Oh snap,
I trust the hearts of most Mississippians are not reflected above. We care for our neighbors and support local food banks. Use this as an opportunity to help a neighbor and pick up the bill of someone you notice is struggling at the grocery store.
Not a fan of the shenanigans pulled by the government. D or R, most all of them are selfish people out only for themselves to get what they want to remain in power.
There's never been a program without some abuse and never will be. Do I get irritated when I see obese people buying snacks and such with EBT? Yep. Can I do anything about it? Not really.
I predict levels of unrest all around this weekend if something isn't done.
Politico | Largest federal workers’ union calls for an immediate end to the shutdown
“Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight,” Everett Kelley, president of the AFGE, wrote. “It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship.”
I see a lot of people who "identify" as Christians have entered the chat. Boy that judgment day is gonna be a shock for many and the answer to why they will start feelin toasty at the pearly gates can be found right here.
Congress funded itself through mid-November. I’m willing to bet that they will resolve the shutdown before they miss any of their own paychecks.
Actually 37% black in ms and the largest number of snap users are white ….all across the country
Freindly Advice: Don't grocery shop unless you know you can finish and load your car before dusk.
Daylight Savings time, which should be permanent, is fixing to expire.
OK Fish, I call bullshit on your claim "Kingfish note: Louisiana's Governor found a way to fund food stamps in November. Governor Jeff Landry issued the following statement Friday:"
Your Governor has not done anything but try to issue a press release claiming that he cares, that the Democrats in Congress are worthless, and while he is busy trying to hire a new coach for the Tigrettes, he is going to pretend that he is doing his real job.
This order only says that the Legislature should go appropriate some money to be used to pay for SNAP benefits. True, as noted in other comments, he fixed this so that the emergency declaration will expire by the time that Congress (both parties - with neither giving in while both do) actually passes another kick-the-can-down-the-road appropriations bill.
Just as the President can't spend money not appropriated by the legislative body, at least Gov Landry recognizes that and acts accordingly. He asks the legislature to appropriate some money for this purpose. (Trump, on the other hand claims he will spend money - tariff dollars today - to pay for some expenses only to be told by Congress "you can't do that"!)
Yes, Landry declared an emergency. But that didn't replace the money that is held up due to the so-called shutdown. He asked his legislature to do so. Nice try, but next time focus on the Governor's AD responsibilities.
" I trust the hearts of most Mississippians are not reflected above. We care for our neighbors and support local food banks. Use this as an opportunity to help a neighbor and pick up the bill of someone you notice is struggling at the grocery store"
Gawd what a naive comment.
Yeah ...as poor as we are ...we're still the most charitable State in the USA.
And while we always help the truly needy, we also have anger against those that live off abusing the system.
In the Ridgeland Walmart parking lot, I have seen a man and woman finish their 'business' in the back seat of a car and crawl out the back door, adjusting their britches. And a man pushing a cart selling packages of steaks, presumably bought with a month's worth of his girlfriend's EBT/SNAP/Foodstamp allowance.
5:17, Well stated.
The Book of James says take care of the rich and let the poor suffer what they deserve. That is the Gospel according to Mississippi Republicans. Not a Christian in the bunch
So how do you guys feel about bailing out Argentina?
October 27, 2025 at 5:52 PM
NASTY!
.
I used to think Tate=Landry, but definitely after seeing Jeff getting rid of Brian Kelly while keeping food stamps alive, I have to say Landry>Tate.
Don’t most school kids get reakfast and lunch at school?
Schumer does seem to be an aspiring autocrat, ignoring the will of the majority of Americans who oppose this nonsense to hold millions of Americans financially hostage to force will of the minority in the Senate on the American people. Sounds very autocratic.
I'll one up 5:54 and go with 5:17 for today's win!
MS should have passed legislation like other states did years ago. No more aid after the 1st one born out of wedlock. I can see helping with the 1st one but after that no more assistance. It would put a substantial downfall on those living off of taxpayers money and create a better society. There is nothing wrong with working and birth control!
@3:24 That is not the same bill.
Twinking and DingDong stocks just took a dive.
the grocery stores better put on extra security cause they will just shoplift the goods.
the defense will be ''im entitled to it''.
Yeah, if it’s on social media you can bet it’s going to happen. Better buy bitcoin.
Yep. Let’s be more like Mexico. That will fix everything
Yeah, that second kid can rot. Right?
I love how all they tell folks to go to a food pantry, how about go get a friggin job.
All govt workers should stay home one week….VA to USDA to CDC to Nuclear agencies to air traffic
After the 1st kid, parents should have to pay back into the system to cover what they took for their 1st kid! No more free rides, work is not a bad word!
Trump should add a 25% national grocery tax on all food items, everywhere in America. This is on top of the current tariffs. This is the only way to get serious about stopping the runaway federal deficit. Instead of free "food", these SNAP recipients will learn something called sustainability with a touch of dignity.
Gee, if the Feds only cared about Americans more than Argentinians.
You all rejoice and tell people to get jobs and I’ll remind you of this:
“There are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy” —Alfred Henry Lewis
Here's hoping Kingfish will camp out in a Kroger parking lot and *snap* photos of obese women dashing out of the store carrying cases of shoplifted Twinkies, sodas and ribs.
Disclaimer: I did not mention race.
A trip to Sam’s in Madison this weekend might be a pleasant experience for the first time in years.
Nothing like seeing so-called “Christians” getting on here and cheering for kids to starve. Surely, that will cause people to turn to God, right?
Agreed with the multiple posters commenting on how we don’t have money to feed our own, but we have money to bail out Argentina, as well as for a Ballroom, as well as to comply with Trump’s $230 million demand for a personal check from the DOJ.
We are living in the most cruel, upside-down, and stupidest of times.
Counterpoint, we had all the money in the world to allow everyone from every other country to walk across the border and a blank check to Ukraine. But yea, the ballroom that is privately funded is causing people to go without. Also, are you saying that not helping other countries is not something America should do? BTW, Christians are concerned about people going without. But, when people don’t put effort in their own lives to do better, you can’t really help them. You end up enabling them to stay poor.
In FY 2022, there were @ 400,000 SNAP participants in Mississippi. Of these, 175,000 were children (under age 18), 56,000 were adults with disabilities (under age 60) and 57,000 were elderly (over age 60). So, during 2022, 288,000 of the 400,000 SNAP recipients in Mississippi (72%) were children, disabled or elderly. But who cares, right? That's 288,000 unemployed freeloaders, right? They can go to church for help or go find a job if they get hungry. I don't get free food. Why should they? Just 288,000 selfish, freeloading, parasites.
I'm still waiting for some of the anti-SNAP folks to tell me how they feel about bailing out Argentina.
-10/27 at 7:22
America isn't made GREAT by people who sit at home on the sofa.
Absolutely
Wow! If MS had someone on the Agriculture committee to represent us?
The president of Argentina and Trump are friends. Friends help friends. The president of America has many friends.
Trump should halt the plans to build his hideous ballroom and put the money towards SNAP. Pretty bad optics to be spending $500 million on that on top of the new private jets he bought for Kristi Noem on top of giving Argentina $20 Billion. Why can’t he put Americans first?
2 Thessalonians 3:10 'For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. '
If you are not disabled, old or very young - starve. No one cares. Loads of FAT women on tictok are really speaking out! It is YOUR responsibility as a 'tax payer' to feed her 7 children. A riot will start. Meet them at Walmart to clear the shelves. Young, healthy thugs demanding free food.
Y'all be careful out there. The animals are restless.
Nationally:
45% of Afghanistan immigrants are on food stamps.
42% of Somali immigrants are on food stamps.
34% of Iraqi immigrants are on food stamps.
23% of Haitian immigrants are on food stamps.
59% of ALL illegal aliens are collecting food stamps.
The ballroom is needed. It is also privately funded. No gummint funds are used. When the White House hosts state dinners and large events, too often it has to use those giant tents and yes, portajohns. There is an actual need for such a facility.
Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike
Temple of the Dog was an American rock supergroup that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. It was conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of the bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. The lineup included Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar, Jeff Ament on bass guitar (both ex-members of Mother Love Bone and future members of Pearl Jam), Mike McCready (later Pearl Jam) on lead guitar, and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden and later Pearl Jam) on drums. Eddie Vedder appeared as a guest to provide some lead and backing vocals and later became lead vocalist of Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam's debut album, Ten, was released four months after Temple of the Dog's only studio album
The chart doesn’t show the full picture of SNAP recipients by race or ethnicity. The most reliable source for the breakdown of SNAP recipients by demographics comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the program.
According to the most recent USDA data available, from 2023, white people are the largest racial group receiving SNAP benefits, at 35.4%. African Americans are next, making up 25.7% of recipients, then Hispanic people at 15.6%, Asian people at 3.9%, Native Americans at 1.3% and multiracial people at 1%. The race of 17% of participants is unknown.
The same report found that 89.4% of SNAP recipients were U.S born citizens, meaning less than 11% of SNAP participants were foreign-born. Of the latter figure, 6.2% were naturalized citizens, 1.1% were refugees and 3.3% were other noncitizens, including lawful permanent residents and other eligible noncitizens.
@3:44 any demographic chart that does NOT identify non-Hispanic whites, is including Hispanics that self-identify as white. And Chicanos, mestizos, and plenty of Cubanos, Puerto Ricans, and other “high-caste” Latinos (think George Zimmerman) are included as “white” on these charts.
