The session is almost upon us as legislators will invade Jackson in the next few days. Empower Mississippi's Will Ervin, yes the Will Ervin discusses the issues expected to dominate the capitol this year, including tax reform, medicaid expansion, ballot initiative, and school choice.

Don’t forget bar owners. When these unemployed, alcoholic bums come to town, they drink only the finest whiskey and wine because lobbyist (in reality you and I) are paying for it.
I always get worried when this happens and remain so for the next 90 days.
Ballot initiative is dead on arrival . .. can’t have the peasants usurping our power now can we… it is the ‘Sip afterall
TEXAS legislature meets every other year… let that sink in.. Gov likes the no income tax TX has….how does he feel about the legislature meeting every other year? But let’s not talk about that…It is the ‘Sip after all lo
Ballot initiative is never coming back as long as the republicans stay in power.
If they never went in session we wouldn't even notice.
The peasants didn't qualify the med dope initiative. Without Bomgar's dinero it would have never made the ballot.
School choice is only a big issue for Empower. Not for anybody else, including the legislature. .
Only tax reform will be a caucus vote in the House. The senate will be the same. If it’s not a caucus vote it’s not going to dominate the legislative agenda. So what’s this guy talking about?
With Jackson being Number 1 in the US on murders, it is time for Lumumba to be voted out. Are you reading & listening to reports. If it walks like a duck, it is a duck. Time to move on and do better, not to mention water & sewer issues. If the legislature has to step on, then the mayor isn’t performing duties he was paid for!
I’d bet the Governor would be elated if the Legislature just met once every 8 years.
It is time once again for our short sighted legislators to pass bad legislation because they do not seek input from those with experience. Time and again this allows the self appointed geniuses to create law with severe unintended consequence's which they then have to try to correct during the next session. Pro tip- you cannot eliminate income taxes [ except slowly
and incrementally] and school choice will do NOTHING to enhance education but will be guaranteed to make good schools
worse and to pay the private tuition of children of legislators rich friends' who are already attending private school. These are the same education experts who gave us the unmitigated disaster
known as charter schools. I have no doubt though that the public
will fall for this con game. The public is , after all, a blind stumbling mass.
