The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.
Pursuant to Mississippi personnel guidelines, Capitol Police officer Michael Rhinewalt has been placed on administrative leave without pay until such time as he can be provided an agency due process hearing. Former Capitol Police officer, Jeffery Walker has not been employed by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) since July 2023. MDPS follows a structured process for handling officer-involved shooting incidents. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) conducts independent fact-finding investigations, once their findings are complete, they are turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, who oversees any resulting court proceedings and prosecutions and presents to a Grand Jury. In this case, a Grand Jury determined there was sufficient probable cause to issue an indictment against the two officers. To further strengthen accountability in 2024, MDPS has established an Internal Affairs Division that operates independently of other agencies within MDPS and reports directly to Commissioner Tindell. This division includes dedicated investigators tasked with independently handling complaints of officer misconduct. In addition, Capitol Police officers now wear body cameras and additional policies have been instituted to ensure greater professionalism and accountability. Anyone wishing to file a complaint can do so at our website (www.dps.ms.gov). No further comment will be made at this time.Kingfish note: The indictment states:
Capitol Police arrested Jordan on August 14, 2022 for felony fleeing, marijuana possession, and aggravated assault that took place during a traffic stop. A Hinds County grand jury indicted Jordan for felony fleeing and two counts of aggravating assault, alleging he shot at Rhinewalt and Walker. On or about August 14, 2022, in Hinds County, Mississippi, and within the jurisdiction of this court, the defendants JEFFERY ALAN WALKER JR. and MICHAEL LAMAR RHINEWALT, while acting in concert with each other, did willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously, attempt to cause bodily injury to Sinatra Rakim Jordan with a deadly weapon or other means likely to produce death or serious bodily harm, to-wit: a firearm, by shooting at Sinatra Rakim Jordan with said firearm On or about August 14, 2022, in Hinds County, Mississippi, and within the jurisdiction of this court, the defendants JEFFERY ALAN WALKER JR. and MICHAEL LAMAR RHINEWALT, while acting in concert with each other, did willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously, purposely, knowingly, or recklessly cause serious bodily injury to Sherita Lynn Harris under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, by shooting Sherita Lynn Harris with a firearm
The case is still pending in Hinds County Circuit Court. The case is assigned to Judge Debra Gibbs.
One of the officers allegedly shot Sherita Harris in the head. She was hospitalized for four days.
There is no bodycam footage of the incident. The vehicle belonged to Harris. Harris sued the two officers and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for $3 million in federal court. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson. She dismissed DPS from the lawsuit. Earlier post with copy of complaint. Here is an additional tidbit of information. A Capitol Police officer shot 25 year-old Jaylan Lewis to death on September 22, 2022. Law enforcement sources say the officer was Michael Rhinewalt.

Rhinewalt must have two notches carved on his pistola.
qualified immunity defense incomming in 3...2...1...
Driving while black is a proven set of facts for reasonable suspicion to be pulled over for something. Invest in white face makeup and make a fortune.
When someone is shooting a pistol at a cop, the last thing on the cop's mind is, "Lemme see....What color is the shooter?"
If someone was indeed shooting at the cop as claimed
People tell your children to act responsibly, I don’t know the story however no cop shot at me in my 70 years on earth as a black man. I have sense to act accordingly in any situation to make it home safe! Now I’ve done my share of stupid shit in my teens and been to jail on one occasion for minor shigity! I have also wore the uniform of a Law Enforcement Officer in my thirties. The Police don’t know you, they also want to go home safe!
Play stupid games get very bad results.
Capitol PD has weeded out a lot of the goons since they took over patrol duties in the CCID. While I think a very strong presence was needed at first, they operated a bit like the Wild West. Most of those early “problems” are no longer employed there.
If I've said it once I've said it a 1,000 times...MS LE agencies do a piss poor job of conducting pre-employment background investigations for LE officer applicants.
I did background investigations for LE officer applicants for a large agency out west back in the day. On the average I spent about 40-hours conducting the investigation of each applicant.
It seems that in MS about an hour is spent, including a coffee break.
Capitol police hired applicants that were rejected during the hiring process at other agencies under DPS. That is a fact.
It is so much easier to stop when a cop tries to pull you over. If you try to run that will just make them think you are guilty of something. , which you probably are.
Until there is accountability from the top down this will continue to happen at capitol police. Yes, there needs to be an active police force in jackson but SOME of these officers that the administration hired rival the goon squad.
How about revamping the hiring process at Capitol Police to resemble mbn and mhp? Why was this officer hired after being rejected at mbn? These are questions that need to be answered. I don't want to hear about the creation of an IA division. It should not have happened in the first place!
11:09 for today's win!
Why were these 2 hired in the first place?
Your OPINION is noted.
Great comment, 11:09!
Crowd roar for 11:09 !!!!
Times up for being the victim and playing the blame game. Have a valid drivers license and insurance, drive in accordance to the laws of your state, stop when advised by Law Enforcement and act accordingly when stopped and allow the Judges or Courts to handle any issues you have with the stop! If you do this I doubt very seriously you will be hurt or shot by Law Enforcement.
Do not get behind the wheel if you are doing something illegal and have warrants! Then the Police won’t have to chase your ignorant ass and do all that paperwork.
If you spent 40 work-hours on one background investigation, you should have been fired on day two.
I have to assume you're counting sitting around on your ass waiting for return phone calls (that never came) and time spent trying to get others to speak to you confidentially, with your "C'mon, Bro, give it up" approach.
I have had no problems from the capitol police, but of course I haven’t been there in about 20 years.
