The Justice Department issued the following statement.
A Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputy appeared for an arraignment today following an Indictment filed in Jackson on criminal charges related to his use of excessive force against an arrestee.
According to court documents, Adrian Durr, 43, of Magee, used excessive force against an arrestee in the custody of the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office. The Indictment alleges that while the arrestee was handcuffed to a bench that was bolted to the floor and shackled with leg irons on his ankles, Durr struck the arrestee in the head with the handgrip of his taser. After striking the arrestee with his taser, Durr kicked the arrestee in the head rendering him unconscious. At all times, the arrestee was handcuffed and hobbled with leg irons on his ankles.
“Law enforcement officers in Mississippi and throughout the nation are required to take care of the safety and welfare of the people they arrest,” said U.S. Attorney Todd Gee. “Unlawful physical assaults on arrestees are federal crimes that the Justice Department will prosecute.”
“Our citizens deserve credible law enforcement to safeguard the community from crime,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff. “The actions of Mr. Durr significantly deprived the citizens of that protection and eroded the trust earned each day by honest law enforcement officers throughout the nation. The FBI is committed to aggressively investigating those who misuse their authority and violate individual’s rights in the execution of their sworn duties.”
Durr is charged by Indictment with Deprivation of Civil Rights Under Color of Law. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel Goff is prosecuting the case.

B-b-but he was named TOP COP! https://www.simpsoncounty.ms/durr-named-countys-top-cop
If true, he should get every bit of 10 years and all his previous arrests need to be re-investigated at the department’s expense.
Many many connections to Rankin SO! Who really runs Simpson S.O., which taxpayers buy vehicles, housing particular trustees???
Now you know why he was named top cop! Simpson version of the goon squad.
“The times, they are a-changing!” I’m praying, one day, all the good cops will act to end this kind of abuse.
FBI 101. If they aren't cuffed, it's a fair fight. When the cuffs go on leave them alone. The number one thing that will send a cop to prison is the hand cuff situation.
Saw Madison County Deputies on Hwy 22 early this morning; class acts! In over 3 decades of dealing with City of Madison police and Madison County Deputies, so far, all have been class acts! Saw a Rankin Deputy last week and a Rankin Constable week before; both class acts!
The vast majority are great men and women out there risking their lives for us. BUT, too many low IQ roided out s__t eaters are slipping through the cracks and need to have their guns and badges taken away.
A youtuber “The Civil rights Lawyer” regularly posts body cam footage of meathead cops, and their actions are usually shocking.
And it has to be investigated as to how many other people have been abused, beaten or otherwise harmed while in the charge/custody of this man.Like Rankin County Sheriff and deputies, this was in all probability not the first time this has happened. This HAS to stop. We should not have to fear the police.I know there are many good cops. You have the ability to report the bad cops. Please make this better.
this is nothing new and was Parodied by Bernie Mac in Don’t Be A Menace
Most likely there will be a lawsuit and tax payers will have to pay. It’s time for law enforcement to start paying for there own law suits
"the arrestee was handcuffed to a bench that was bolted to the floor and shackled with leg irons on his ankles"
So the arrestee and the LEO were clearly in a detention center and more than likely in the booking area. This incident was probably witnessed by detention officers in the facility and recorded on video.
Court records show this incident happened on February 18 per the CL and both parties were black. It’s now the middle of October! There is also video!! The wheels of Justice is Slow but Sho!
MS is #1 in piss poor pre-employment background investigations of LE applicants.
Sad but reality. This inmate is not an animal and no animal should be treated as such.To the Sheriff of Simpson County Is this the culture on your watch? Your Deputies including detention personnel I surmise probably not the first time observing this type criminal behavior.
Signed a former Detention Deputy
I was ticketed by this outfit just outside of mendenhall a couple of years ago. The officer was overweight and extremely rude. I will never spend another dollar in this shithole ever again. Simpson county LEOs are by far the worst breed of “public servants” in the state. They eclipse Rankin County in terms of self aggrandizement, ignorance, and incompetence. It’s high time the state step in and crackdown on these clown show sheriff’s offices. There needs to be true standards to prevent these little good ole boy shakedown operations. If you can’t fit in a size 34 pair of pants and run 1 mile, then you shouldn’t be given a badge.
Now 12:29 it is evident you know nothing about the High Sheriff! There is no other county elected position Higher! Now you can talk about the fat, uneducated and chew spitting person wearing that badge, but you may have to spend real money going up against the Sheriff’s boys and the good ole justice court judge. So when you pass thru Simpson County just ensure you follow the house rules.
And you wonder why people don’t trust law enforcement
Now 2:19 as you know in any field of endeavor there are the good and the bad. I do know decent and caring Law Enforcement Officers who really carry out their duties according to the Law. But their are some that stray and the Sheriff turns a blind eye until he gets sued or the Justice Department come down on his Office like a Mississippi Tornado!
If the “good cops” coverup the crimes of the bad cops, are they really “good cops”? The answer of course is no, they are just as bad as the ones doing the beatings and planting evidence. Until the thin blue line is erased, there are no “good cops”.
My ability to back the blue is no longer an option. If there are any good cops left that want to preserve any sanctity of the profession they should really speak up and become whistleblowers.
As a gun-toting conservative who defended them staunchly in the past, I can confirm they are losing many of us.
