Never let it be said State Representative Trey Lamar (R-Hazzard County) ignores his homies. Mississippi Today's Geoffrey Pender and Taylor Vance reported October 9, 2024:
House Ways and Means Chairman Trey Lamar has helped steer more than $7 million in state money to improve the affluent country club neighborhood and private golf course area where he lives in north Mississippi. ... Lamar in an interview with Mississippi Today defended the spending on his neighborhood. He said the road project was badly needed for safety for a “very dangerous road.” He said the road project then caused flooding on the golf course and surrounding yards and the county was responsible for fixing it. Lamar said the small water system serving the neighborhood was in terrible shape and the source of many complaints. He noted the state Public Service Commission signed off on Senatobia taking over service. Rest of rather long article.
The article has a discussion with the residents, county engineer, and contractors over how bad the flooding was. Apparently, it was pretty bad.
Mr. Lamar issued the following statement to JJ and Mississippi Today:
Investments in infrastructure have occurred from the Tennessee state line to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and everywhere in between across our great state - literally every County and City has received funding from the Legislature. Dangerous roads are being repaired and other important public infrastructure is being modernized. Without question, this is a core function of government, and it is work that the people demand from their elected representatives. During my career, I have been pleased to help my fellow Mississippians secure funding to repair broken infrastructure in cities and counties all over Mississippi, including where I call home. In many cases, state funding for infrastructure repairs has been secured when local governments could not fund the needed work themselves. The partnerships we have with our local governments have been crucial to actually getting work done for the people, and it is clear that progress is being made as we watch old, crumbling infrastructure being repaired all over Mississippi. For example, in my home of Tate County approximately 128 miles of county roads have recently been improved with funding provided by the Legislature. These efforts help and benefit all Mississippians. With this background, I was recently asked about the reality of a family member owning private property in the vicinity of a public infrastructure project. In response, I would simply say that my family lives and works among the people, and the constituents that live in these areas request the same basic level of services that all Mississippians expect. After helping with thousands of projects across the state, this result is inevitable. But for the record, I will clearly state that at no time have any public funds been used on private property owned by myself or my family. Although we cannot please everyone with every action taken, I believe the vast majority of Mississippians appreciate the Legislature’s commitment to repairing public infrastructure. Any potential innuendo of wrongdoing is baseless and only diverts time and effort away from the real progress that we are making.
Former Tate County Supervisor Cam Walker issued the following statement to the online newspaper as well:
The Country Club Road safety and improvement project in Tate County originated shortly after I took office as supervisor of District 1 in 2004. At that time, Mississippi State Highway 740 had just been completed which placed a lot more traffic on Country Club Road than in years past as people living out in Tate and Panola counties were using the road as a quicker route to get to interstate 55. As supervisor, I negotiated a deal with farmer and landowner Mike Massey (MRM Farms) where Mr. Massey agreed to donate approximately 5 acres of right of way to Tate County in exchange for the County straightening a dangerous 90 degre1 curve and replacing an old bridge located in this curve. At that time, the county engineer believed that the corps of engineers would help the county fund this construction project. As a result, the deed from Mr. Massey to Tate County was signed in 2006. However, the corps of engineers funding never came through. In 2012, I again tried to secure funding to begin the Country Club Road safety project from our congressional delegation. This is when the 2006 deed from Mr. Massey to Tate County was recorded in the land records. Again, the funding for the project never materialized. Over the years, additional residential subdivisioni continued to be built adjacent to Country Club Road increasing traffic and making the road even less safe. The road had dangerous intersections and at least two steep hills that prevented passengers from seeing oncoming traffic due to an impaired line of sight. As a result, I installed stop signs and other traffic safety devices at various points up and down the road to attempt to slow down the traffic and improve safety. These efforts had little effect as the road remained dangerous and was in need of being reconstructed. I also attended at least two public hearings while I was in office where citizens from Tate County appeared and demanded that Country Club Road be improved and made safer. When I retired as supervisor in 2019, it was my understanding that we had finally begun to receive funding to make the needed repairs to Country Club Road.
The complete statements of Mr. Lamar and Mr. Walker did not appear in the Mississippi Today article. The Board of Supervisors issued a statement as well but the online newspaper did not publish it as well.

If Republicans did it, Mississippi Today wants you to know it shouldn't have happened.
Once again what does Mississippi Today want me to be mad about? A state representative (shock) doing his job?
Good for him! If we had any rep's with some sense, we'd have more bacon as well.
Once again, the dumbasses supporting corruption and backroom politics. Shocking!
I’m not familiar eit Hazzard County. Evidently I missed the connection.
2:21 What County are you in?
No Pigott, No Pulitzer
Unfortunately, this type of slander comes with the territory. He's prepared for that, clearly.
Does anybody really think Lamar gives a shit what the Barksdalers think? After their heavy lift for Waller and then the all-in bet everything hyperventilation over Presley it is plainly obvious that they can't come close to moving the needle.
KF you missed one big part of story. The $400k to pave a street with a dozen houses where Lamar owns his Jackson house. Thats the part that stinks about all this
If the road was dangerous and you said, even if it was to yourself, if I get elected to something I'm going to do something about this problem. I'm all for that. Why not own it? I respect that. Quit the political drivel trying to pacify someone who doesn't give a rip about what you're saying.
You mean I can't trust MT for fair reporting?
Mr. Lamar's REAL mistake was issuing a statement. What a bonehead. Has he not been given the playbook?
I seem to recall county supervisors going to prison for graveling driveways, of OTHER people- not their own. Narcissist politician. Sheesh !
These are age old issues. My family owned the area of a country club in North Mississippi until the Depression. The CC then built there had the same type of snots as we have at CCJ and in Oxford and Senatobia. Yes, the roads were always immaculate.
Even the "speed bumps" issue was the same, as the road by the CC was flat and straight, so kids, in particular those in sports cars bought with good ole CC member- Daddy's money, would fly drunk down the road. Remember the Irby wreck here?
And, yes, eventually, the BOS put in ginormous speed bumps, and a kid from out of the area hit one at about 100 mph. His car went airborne, and clipped a pine tree at about 12 feet, killing the kid. A waste of human life for certain.
Same sort of Richie Riches from OMLS and real estate families, some of which are just the type of snots you find at the Grove or by LSU or Bammer. Land Grant U: biggest jerkwads in any Land Grant State go to Land Grant U, without a doubt.
And the same "burning issues" where Sister gets her steam up to pull strings and the local real estate and legal types call in favors. In many ways, all the states, but especially Mississippi, have this rigged economy of "upscale" golf course types deeply embedded for the privileged. Private profit, public expense.
And of course, it always has the angry anonymous "watchdogs" watching the riches dogs and not their own Pit Bulls. In contrast, there is the specialty of the AFP/LIberaLtarian authors/sponsors here to do the opposite-watching how "rich" some little kid in the ghetto is off that 4 bucks a day to eat.
Ole Trey like Tater like Feel has found the good life-homes in Senatobia and in NorthEast Jerkson. Of course the streets are immaculate. Hell, the NEJ types want to spend a couple of billion on One/Two/Needless Lake "flood projects" just to have new upscale subdivisions for Gens II, III, and IV.. Same schtick, more tax money. Private Profit/Public Expense.
Why isn't MT covering important topics like Jackson politicians imminent arrest?
... and in NorthEast Jerkson. Of course the streets are immaculate.
You just disqualified your whole damn comment.
Thanks for playing.
Nothing about Lamar’s “saving” CCJ from a big ole wad of state cash, KF?
I prefer taxpayer funds being spent on something productive like this, as opposed to the wasteful DEI spending at Ole Miss.
6:13. Nice try Trey. Stealing taxpayer money to pave your own street and driveway is not “productive” to anyone except you.
How did he steal taxpayer money, I could use a little of that myself?
9:05. if you cared to, or, possibly, can, read the MT report, it shows the immaculate cul de sac de Northeast Jerkson where Trey has his second home. Of course, you are now disqualified from commenting. Thanks for driveling by.
I'm sure Mr. Lamar can show similar projects in neighborhoods where he doesn't own property?
I wish MS Today would report on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors. No telling what they have done for themselves! At least Lamar is the one that authored HB 1020, so he has done something beneficial in his career.
Maybe Mr. Shad could add this pork to his list.
9:28 - That is incorrect. There is no picture of a NE Jackson home or cul-de-sac in the MT online article.
9:28 AM - I found the picture I assume you are referring to in a different article at this MT url:

"Remember the Irby wreck here?"
Yes, I do. But it was not 'here', and it had no correlation to the discussion at hand. The Irby wreck was in a dangerous 45-degree curve on Old Canton Road, in Jackson, which has nothing to do with public road near a country club in Tate County, one hundred and fifty miles to the north.
Getting his street and drive paved at taxpayer expense is “his job”?!?!!?
Lord help us
So sad that we keep hearing that this is the way of politicians. Promise to work hard for you if you elect me to this position. When elected, it becomes “How much can I personally profit from this?”
