White Smoke Appears. Pope to Lead MBN

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement yesterday.

Today, Commissioner Sean Tindell, of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MSDPS) announced changes and additions to his senior leadership staff. These changes will take effect July 1st, 2024.

“Our Department of Public Safety remains committed to protecting and serving the people of Mississippi with the highest degree of professionalism,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “I’m thankful for the service of these individuals and all of our law enforcement community members. I’m confident that they will continue to help effectively lead this important organization.”

Deputy Commissioner Keith Davis has been named Colonel of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Division (LED). This division will include the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, Capitol Police, Crime Stoppers, and Public Safety Planning. LED will work in unison with all local, state, and federal agencies, as well as Colonel Charles Haynes who oversees the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division, and the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy.

Allen McDaniel has been appointed Chief of Staff for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. In this role, he will develop and coordinate statewide initiatives in line with Commissioner Tindell’s vision to ensure a unified effort. Prior to joining MSDPS, McDaniel served as the Executive Director of the National Guard Association of Mississippi since 2017. He is a 34-year veteran with both enlisted and commissioned service, including State Judge Advocate for Mississippi, active-duty deployment to Iraq, disaster relief activation in Mississippi, and command of an engineering company. McDaniel has extensive experience in private law practice representing law enforcement agencies in state and federal courts as well as preparing policies and procedures. McDaniel and his wife of 21 years, Tara, reside in Rankin County with their two children, Ford and Cloe.

Major Phillip Pope will be promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and Chief of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN), Pope has been serving as Interim in this role since February 2024. Previously serving as Enforcement Major for the central region, he and his team are responsible for the dismantling of several drug trafficking organizations responsible for importing large amounts of drugs into our communities. Lt. Colonel Pope has worked within the ranks of MBN for nearly two decades. Before his time with MBN, he worked for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Park as a conservation officer and Lieutenant over the training division.

Josh Bromen has been named the Executive Director of the Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training. The board aims to keep law enforcement officers well-educated on developments and equipped to meet society’s growing needs to ensure public safety across the state. Bromen is dedicated to enhancing training protocols and professional standards within the state while guaranteeing the office operates with the highest levels of integrity, effectiveness, and community engagement. Previously, Bromen served as the Deputy Chief of Police at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Police Department from October 2021 to March 2024. Prior to that, he was the Director of the Mississippi Analysis and Information Center and a Commander in the Gulfport Police Department.

“I am confident in these leaders, who bring many years of experience and a strong commitment to managing resources, utilizing cutting-edge technology to reduce crime, and making Mississippi safer every day,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. “I am excited to see the work they will accomplish in their respective divisions and for the Department of Public Safety.”

Kingfish note: The Capitol Police also hired former Pearl Police Chief Dean Scott this week.  Scott will supervise dispatch.

"The Capitol Police also hired former Pearl Police Chief Dean Scott this week. Scott will supervise dispatch." birds of a feather. I'll be damn(not really).

10:17 - Holy shit, are you serious?

KF: I see what you did with that headline. Smooth move.

Kinda strange to put a guy who has a deep hatred of the Highway Patrol, in charge....

Anonymous said...

He may have to work to repay the double dipping with retirement, leave & benefits accrued from previous double employment.

The same Dean Scott that was faking his time cards?

I thought CJ Lemaster fired the kill shot on Dean Scott? Isn't that what WLBT alluded to in its report on the media circle-jerk awards they give out? That 'ol CJ's "investigative reporting" caused Dean Scott to be out of a job and it ran him out of town?

Apparently CJ's reporting didn't do $h!+ and 'ol Dean continues to be employed by metro area law enforcement and still participating in PERS.

Dean Scott....CLASSIC upward failure!!
What is his position there?

Anonymous said...

Scott has got to have nekkid pictures of someone.

“The Height of the Ridiculous!” Lie, cheat and steal…no problem, police dept is hiring….

I am very disappointed that Bo hired him after he broke state laws. Dean Scott should be prosecuted, just like the Goon Squad! This sends a bad message to the hard working, honorable men & women in blue keeping us safe everyday while not earning $$ like Dean did Illegally! Shad White, where are you?You go after everyone else so start with this!

If they did hire this man in any capacity they are just as bad as the goon squad. Why do law enforcement want to hire known criminals? I was thinking law enforcement would be against criminals, not hiring them.

Least Tindall could do is get Broman’s title correct. Executive Director of the Office of Standards & Training is the correct title - they oversee the training and certification of law enforcement, dispatchers, and jail officers and each has its own Board (BLEOST, BTEST, BJOST). Something the Commish should know…just saying. And must be nice to just be handed a PINned position, too.

Executive Director of the Office of Standards & Training

What kind of standards does the man have? He is a criminal. Imagine a known criminal teaching law enforcement standards.
This has to be a joke or one hell of a mistake.

@11:38 PM

Tindell has put his buddies in high ranking positions, given them huge salary increases and created new executive job titles for them as well....must be nice to be part of the dps team! Tindell has free reign at dps to do as he pleases, and if he wants to call Broman's title that.....so be it.

12:08-Go to Google and type in "dispatch call reflects anger over suprise checkpoint." That is your new Colonel over the new LED that was just created.

2:26. That dispatch recording is crazy and unprofessional how the Chief talked to that dispatcher. Sounds like the Chief and now Colonel is on a real power trip. Seems like that would also be improper use of his position of authority to get one of his alderman through a checkpoint. Will be interesting to see how this appointment turns out!

I worked with Phillip Pope at MDWFP he was a good Officer I hope he does well at MBN

I listened to the audio of Davis running off at the mouth. He is a yes man if there ever has been one. Whoever that alderman was got him in gear in a hurry and got him speaking for the whole of Moss Point. Whatever professional bearing Davis had went right out the door for the sake of pleasing his boss. Or he can't take the heat and Tindall has made a terrible mistake.

Can't believe they let Broman come back. He has little no time of actual law enforcement. He was moved into an administrative position because he couldn't along with anyone on the coast. Same at DPS and here he comes again. I guess when your from the coast you can get what you want like the rest of them.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
