Madison County Schools Go Poore

The Madison County School District issued the following statement.

The Madison County Board of Education proudly announces the selection of Mr. Ted Poore to serve as the next superintendent of Madison County Schools. Mr. Poore will begin serving as deputy superintendent effective immediately, working closely with Superintendent Charlotte Seals prior to her retirement and enabling a seamless leadership transition on July 1, 2024.

“We are confident that Mr. Poore will continue to build on the tradition of excellence for which our district is known. Everyone who has worked with Mr. Poore can attest to his dedication as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent in our district. We look forward to Mr. Poore leading Madison County Schools to continued success,” said Madison County Board of Education President Sam Kelly.

A 26-year veteran with Madison County Schools, with more than 35 years in the education profession, Mr. Poore has served MCS most recently as an assistant superintendent.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen as Madison County Schools’ next Superintendent. I thank the Madison County Board of Education for their vote of confidence. Our District is an incredibly special place in which I’ve been blessed to serve for 26 years. The faculty and staff of our schools and our District office show up every day to do what is best and right for our students and families. I am honored to stand and serve alongside our stellar instructional and support staff,” said Mr. Poore.

Prior to working at the district level, Mr. Poore served in numerous roles from teacher, coach, and counselor to school-level administrator. Throughout the 1990s, Mr. Poore led Rosa Scott Middle School as principal following several years as assistant principal. A trusted school leader, Mr. Poore was tapped in 2002 to serve as the first principal of Madison Middle School. Mr. Poore returned as principal at Rosa Scott in 2004 when the school became home to all ninth graders in the Jaguar Zone. Mr. Poore’s legacy as a beloved principal there was immortalized in the naming of Poore’s Pass, the road that leads to the campus, in his honor.

In 2011 Mr. Poore once again was called to serve as a founding principal, this time in the Maverick Zone to open Germantown High School. From 2014 to 2019 he served as head of school at Park Place Christian Academy before returning to Madison County Schools in the role of assistant superintendent.

Lauded throughout his career with numerous honors, Mr. Poore has been recognized as Madison County Schools Administrator of the Year, Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) Middle School Principal of the Year, MASSP High School Principal of the Year, and Mississippi Association of School Administrators High School Principal of the Year. A respected administrator throughout the state, Mr. Poore served for ten years as a member of the Commission on School Accreditation for the Mississippi Department of Education.

Mr. Poore is a graduate of Delta State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. He earned a degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. Mr. Poore is a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, and he has been married to his wife Carol Ann for more than forty years. The Poores have three grown children, all of whom are graduates of Madison County Schools, and six grandchildren.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a picture that says “good ole boy” system more than this.

Mr Poore is an excellent choice and he will correct the problems that have arisen during the Seals administration.

First order of business should be to clean house in the County Office building of Seals' crew of former principals who were given county office jobs so they could get to 25 years and retire.

What?! No mail-order/online PhD/EdD??

But can he stop the drug deals in the bathrooms???

Appears to be an impressive choice.

If you kid is an athlete you bet you kid will not get suspended during the season or face any other consequences!

Ted Poore is a heckuva good guy.

If by good "ole boy you" mean he's white, well, yes he is white.

But he's also a professional and brings proven leadership to a top public school system. I bet you anything Ted Poore sees kids not color.

12:32 you have no idea what you are talking about.

Anyone that went through Madison schools in the 90s and 2000s knows Mr. Poore and his family who also went through Madison schools.

He is an upstanding person and effective administrator.

What? Not another blonde from TN that the school board had the hots for???

They Could Have Hired The Swim Coach... said...

I thought he retired years ago. I believe he was assistant principle either at Rosa Scott or Mad Central twenty years ago.

He's a swell guy, keeps his yard mowed, waves at everyone at his Hoy Road mailbox and only needs four high years.

Let's hear more about that nationwide search. He's a place-holder and this board of clowns simply took the easiest route out.

3:02 - Being a good ole boy is not about race. It signifies one of the guys/gals who's been in the stable for several decades, never had a note place in his file, always snugged up his tie and now it seems to be his turn to leave the stable and get on the track.

Sorta like Bob Dole getting the party nomination. Almost an honorable mention trophy but one that pays damned well.

This guy won't embarrass the district and will do fine at Rotary.

Excellent choice! Ted Poore will be a Superintendent who will focus on education. Of course we could have held a nationwide search to get a good woke "educator" who primarily is a propaganda indoctrinator.

The last nationwide search resulted in a complete disaster. This time someone who has been known for excellence for decades was hired.

I’ve known him for 40 years. Great coach, educator, administrator. Good choice for the job. No placeholder.

Ted Poore is a cut above. He is a genuinely good guy. He has a heart for Madison County Schools. He should have been hired years ago for the job. MADCO schools will be is great hands.

He's approaching 70? If he's such an excellent guy and the perfect choice and nobody better could be found, why has he not been selected for this job before now? Admitted he probably doesn't fit into the DEI rotation. Place-Holder? Yep. That nails it.

True or False:

Mr. Poore is 70 years old.

Mr. Poore retired MadCo schools ten years ago.

Mr. Poore was at a private school for past 9 years.

Mr. Poore does not have an educ. doctorate degree.

Mr. Poore will have to exit PERS retirement.

He will RE-retire with next four being high-four.

6:23, So?

6:23 AM

There's a really interesting story in this ancient text that we now call the Bible about a leader named Moses.

Whether or not you believe the story to be true, it offers an incredible example of leadership.

At 40 years old, Moses decided to take things into his own hands and visit his own people, the Jews. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian and he went to their defense and killed the Egyptian. He thought this would be the moment he would become their leader. Instead his people rejected him and turned back towards Egypt.

Moses then spent 40 years of insignificance, in a wasteland, in the wilderness. But that's when something much bigger that us always does some of his best work. According to the story, 40 years later, at 80 years old, Moses would meet God in a burning bush, and the rest is history.

6:23 you name these facts as if they are a negative. They are not. They might be one day--but currently, they are not.

A man doesn't seek to lead, he's called to it.

Time will tell, but in your facts, I see a man who has served well in his life so far, whose actions have supported wonderful educations for thousands of students (including my own in middle school and I still remember him), a man who cares about Madison County, a man who has now stepped up to do his part.

Mr. Poore, I wish you all the best and good luck!

These comments are always filled with old, angry farts.

Phenomenal choice.

Why wasn't this Modern Day Moses given this job the last two or three times it was open?

Each of you is welcome to his/her opinion. It's my opinion that a retired man in his seventies being brought back into the system as a desk jockey is NOT the way to electrify the System to achieve an even higher level of excellence.

He's a great guy of superior ethics and decorum. He's also a re-tread and (yep) a place holder.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
