Did Carlos Moore Sue the Wrong Police Officer?

JJ reported yesterday Grenada attorney Carlos Moore sued the Capitol Police and Capitol Police officer Mike Maldonado for allegedly shooting his client, Sherita Harris, in the head during a traffic stop on August 14, 2022.  Harris asked for $3 million in damages. However, did Moore and his client sue the wrong guy?

The Mississippi Free Press reported on August 22, 2022:

Moore repeated the statement that Captain Maldonado pulled over Jordan and was involved in the shooting.  The story does not mention any other police officers.

Moore repeated the allegation in a press release posted on his Facebook page Monday:

Moore was true to his word.  He sued Maldonado and the Capitol Police for $3 million in U.S. District Court on December 15.  The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson.

Moore is holding a press conference today at 2 PM on the steps of the federal courthouse to discuss the lawsuit.

The Capitol Police submitted charging documents to the Hinds County Court on August 16, 2022. The documents appeared in MEC, six days before the Free Press published its story.  Just read the portions of the affidavits posted below.

The affidavit only names Jeffrey Walker of the Capitol Police.  The affidavit states Jordan shot at the police officer.  Shooting at a police officer might explain why a police officer might shoot into a car but Moore leaves that little bit out of his press release and complaint.

The Hinds County grand jury indicted Jordan in March 2023 for fleeing and two counts of aggravated assault.  Check out the indictments.

The indictments allege Jordan shot at officers Rhine Walt and Jeffrey Walker.  Maldonado is mentioned no where in the indictments nor the affidavits.  Notice anything else in the indictments?

The traffic stop took place on Lamar Streets, from Adelle to Fortification streets.  Moore stated in the press release and complaint it took place at the intersection of North State Street and Amite Street.  Remember, this is what Harris's complaint claimed:

Capitol Police sources said Maldonado was not present when the shootings took place.  He arrived at the scene afterwards in his capacity as an Internal Affairs Officer.

So did Carlos Moore and his client sue the wrong guy? Did the Free Press identify the wrong officer?  If so, will the defendants seek sanctions? Inquiring minds want to know.

Note: Posted below are the Harris complaint, indictment, and officer affidavits.

Such sloppiness would not be surprising.

* The Mississippi Workers Comp Commission sanctioned him for $500 in 2017 for throwing a tantrum at a hearing. Earlier post.

 * The Mississippi Court of Appeals ordered Carlos Moore to pay sanctions of $27,467 after he failed to appear in court for a trial because he had a "speaking engagement" in Texas. Earlier post.
* Mississippi Bar reprimanded him in 2020 for ignoring an assignment of a Client's funds and providing the funds to the client. Earlier post.
Federal judge in North Mississippi sanctioned Moore for $3,000 in 2017 for fabricating statements, memos, and not responding to discovery.
*  U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves sanctioned Moore $500 in the Belhaven case after he found Moore's client destroyed evidence in 2017.  Earlier post.
*  The Tennessee Bar censured the Grenada attorney in 2019 after he placed a lien on a client because she rejected a settlement offer he recommended.  Earlier post.

* The estate of Kendrick Murry sued him (pro se) in September 2020 in Forrest County Circuit Court for alleged legal malpractice of a case.  Earlier post.  However, the lawsuit has not been prosecuted since the initial filing of the complaint.  Mr. Moore has not been served with the lawsuit.

Then there is the recent case in Oxford.  The Clown got caught fabricating statements in a wrongful death lawsuit.

* Last but not least is the subject of the current post. The Mississippi Supreme Court suspended Grenada Municipal Court Judge Pro-Tem  Carlos Moore for 60 days without pay after he he used his position as a judge to pressure two police officers for a private client.  Earlier post.

The MS Bar is so weak. Any other state would have suspended or disbarred him by now.

The Attorney to the Stars is making a mistake? Say it ain't so.

Hope he doesn't screw up with the appeals of sentencing for that 10 year old in Senatobia and end up getting him life w/o the possibility of Parole for urinating in public.

Did anyone see where Terrence Howard hired the clown for his big lawsuit. Someone needs to tell Terrence what he's gotten himself into

6:00. I believe WLBT announced that to the world for quite some time for some strange reason. 🤡

The clown held another presser and apologized to Capt. Michael Maldonado, but then went on to blame it on the fact that two people in the investigation are named "Michael."

Can't make this stuff up.

Too many people getting shot in Jackson Mississippi it easy to get the names mixed up!

Since he used a presser in order to actually apologize for something, he might make a good mayor.

Mike Maldonado is a good man. Glad they got that corrected that it was not him.

The clown didn't publicly apologize because it was the right thing to do. He did it to avoid getting sued himself.

Carlos the clown is a so called arrogant lawyer that need to be disbarred from practicing law anywhere. I wouldn't let him represent my dog BELLA.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
