Crazy Week in Biden Energy

This post was sponsored and authored by the Mississippi Energy Institute.

Describing last week's revelations in the crazy world of Biden Administration energy policy could be done in many ways, but none are good. Words that come to mind are confusing, inconsistent, maddening, anti-American, nonsensical, or idiotic. You decide....

- Late last week, Biden's Department of Interior announced new rules to increase restrictions for oil and gas production on federal lands (onshore), to raise royalty rates from production and lease bonuses paid to the Federal treasury and to drastically increase bonding requirements. Onshore oil and natural gas is produced by American companies hiring American vendors and employing Americans in high-paying jobs (six figure pay for those with some experience).
- The following day, Biden's Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm called for more energy supply when asked about oil markets and gasoline prices. Granholm said, "We want to see more supply...."
- Earlier last week, the Wall Street Journal reported the majority of projects in development due to massive tax credits provided by the so-called Inflation Reduction Act for "clean energy" production are foreign-owned companies, largely from South Korea, Japan and China. Most of the biggest projects are for battery production facilities for electric vehicles.
Operating in a global economy means foreign investment, and Mississippi's economy has benefited greatly from investment by foreign-owned companies. Communities across the U.S. will benefit from these investments.
However, why require some energy sector companies to pay more into the Federal treasury while subsidizing others? The obvious answer is, the Biden Administration is not concerned about actually increasing U.S. energy supply and more focused on a political agenda of diminishing the U.S. oil and gas producing industry while investing billions of federal dollars in production supply chains for electric vehicles.
EVs are a growing part of the automotive economy and something many consumers are choosing to buy, but at this point, the future demand and growth of EVs is only a guess, unless the geniuses in DC can dictate the outcome, which they're trying their best to do.
Free markets are the best mechanism to spur innovation by companies to make better, more efficient products consumers will choose to buy. When the government, through subsidies and heavy-handed regulation, seeks to control the marketplace, unintended (negative) consequences are bound to follow.
So whether it's your vehicle, stove, heater, or the electricity or fuel you buy, these policies will eventually lead to higher prices and likely less reliable supply. Just ask anyone in Europe today.

The problem with the left’s energy pipe-dreams are that the stopped us from us from continuing to innovate in nuclear energy.
We are 40 years behind where we should be with breeder reactors, thorium, sodium etc.
all because the left is so short-sighted and cultish

When you understand the ultimate goal of the left is to nationalize the energy industry, the policy, and seemingly opposed statement begin to make sense.

This is the type of situation you end up in when the democrat president nominates, and democrat congress approves, an unhinged kleptomaniac with gender dysphoria as the nation’s Energy Secretary. He/she/It had zero qualifications to fulfill the role.

So, you’re bitching about tax credits for EV’s. And you summarily say, without any evidence, that these decreased taxes increases costs for consumers. First, you should present more evidence to create a story that’s actually convincing re the increased costs. Second, what’s the problem here (since you’re not convincing on these tax credits raising a costs)? I don’t see the issue.

Fun little tidbit re our climate these days: starting Sunday, there isn’t a day in the ten-day forecast where the high isn’t triple digits. So, based on that, of course global warming doesn’t exist. So only a dumb dumb would invest in clean energy. I guess that’s your story, right?

Seems Biden is holding up his word to create less toxins for our young and our animals we need. Green energy is real and should be our goal

Tsar Biden and his crew trying to regulate household appliances…. What idiots. Whether I have a gas or electric appliance is my choice. Keep the idiots out of my house!!!

Elections have consequences!!!

It’s the economy and Biden is swinging for the fences, you will see the light on Energy too.

@5:52,

30 years ago, I started my first job at 15. I worked outside for 12 hour shifts. 8-12 pick up garbage. 1-5 clean facilities, 6-8 prep for tomorrow

Real temps ran 106, heat index of 112-115

This isn’t fuckin new

5:54 will not admit than higher energy costs oppress the poor. Just admit it 5:54, you hate the poor.

5:41 misses the point that Biden was fair and balanced in his cabinet appointments as none of these people is qualified for the job.

5:52 PM, do you live in Mississippi? We haven't had a triple digit day in over four years. I think you may be fooled by those weather forecasters that keep giving the "feel like" temperatures. Do you know where I can get one of those "feel like" thermometers? You should check the temperatures in the past. It was much hotter in the 1930s than it is now. Was it global warming back then?

Oh no! That has never happened before anywhere on the planet! Especially IN AUGUST!!!!!

@5:52 get your head out of your a$$, yeah we hit 100 today, in 2019 & 2015, it’s July it’s hot in MS, surprise surprise surprise. But of course you don’t talk about the lows we’re below 70 last week. Crawl back under your rock where it’s cool and your brain malfunctions when it’s hot.

If I remember correctly, back in the 90's it was over 100 degrees several days in a row. Go up river, jump in the water and damn water was warm.

Just look at Democrat policies and how they wreck everything. No thank you, just another disaster in the making. These climate clowns don’t even know that it snows in Hawaii, gets in the low 50’s in the Middle East, or know the difference between a hurricane, a typhoon, or a storm in the Bering. They just parrot back what the tv tells them.

Y’all cut @5:52 some slack.
They are probably not much older than Greta.
Their only frame of references are the MSM, TikTok, and reddit memes.
If NOAA says it’s the hottest day in history then they believe it.
They weren’t alive in the 90s.
They don’t remember having 100f summers followed by the Rez freezing over in winter.
Meanwhile Jackson’s water system didn’t fail because competent adults were running things.

5:52, you may be right but “there isn’t a day in the ten-day forecast where the high isn’t triple digits” - is not a smart clean energy argument – at all.

There’s a little creek in Rankin County where shark’s teeth could be found several decades ago (maybe still today) and that creek is somewhere in the 300 foot elevation range. The Snowball Earth, the Carboniferous Rainforest, the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event, the Permian-Eocene Thermal Maximum, all happened millions of years ago - according to “scientists.”

So, if the “scientists” are correct, shit’s been changing for a very long time - and a “ten-day (period) where the high (was) triple digits” certainly happened long before humans were using oil/electricity and gasoline.

When Tim Cook, his Apple, and all of the other lying assed billionaire’s and companies claiming to be concerned about “climate change” stop using planned obsolescence to sell us shit that we don’t need so they can make another billion (“at some point you’ve got enough,” right?), we will then know that leftist Democrats really care about climate change. Until then – Big Scam!

Climate change is an industry and is being used as a means to control the masses. Earth has had 5 Ice Ages, interspersed with warm periods where it has warmed to be ice free. We're in the beginnings of another warm period. We're not talking 10 or 100 years. Think Geologic time: 10,000 - 20,000 years. This cycle has been known for over 100 years.

Anonymous said...

A review of earth’s temperatures will prove that we are actually in a cool period now on earth. As far as recent history, the 1930’s are the hottest decade on record. We actually cooled for several years this century and only in the last few years has it warmed. The data does not support global warming.

@ 6:55 AM - Actually, it is the customers paying for all of this "malarkey" through rate increases.

The earth is 5 billion years old and we've been measuring temperatures accurately for maybe 100 years. The rest is theoretical based on taking core samples and pontificating as to what happened when and why?

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were in present day Iraq. 🤔

Right wingers have run this into the ground, my homeschooled 15 year old knows that this climate change is man made, that’s what his staunch Republican 90 year old grandfathers and 80 year great uncles have told him . They have lived it.

You should really investigate the toxic levels of pollution produced by the rare earth mines used in making photovoltaics and lithium batteries.

@9:02
It’s not just “right wingers” just like the many doctors who spoke out during covid weren’t “right wing conspiracy theorists” they came from all backgrounds and merely spoke out against the madness!

It’s been a con job since the very beginning.
In 1988, when James Hansen made his infamous claims before congress, that the glaciers were melting and NYC would be flooded by 2000, they intentionally turned off the AC and to make everyone sweat during the hearing. They brag about it today as a genius political tactic.

Al Gore would replicate this tactic during his “inconvenient truth” tours when he too would claim that NYC would be flooded within 10 years.

It’s a cult.

@9:00AM

I am not arguing against you.
However, it is well documented that Saddam Hussein in his endless hubris, caused an ecological disaster that destroyed the wetlands between surrounding the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
This accelerated the desertification of his nation.

So, let me get this straight. Biden's administration just increased restrictions on production and increased the cost of production, but yet say they want more production ? If you want more production, reduce the restrictions on production and reduce the cost. Their actions speak much, much louder than their words. In fact, their actions are 100% contrary to their words, and their words are outright lies.

The administration should wear coats that look like NASCAR cars so we could follow the money easier.

we need more nuclear reactors to make "green" energy. Wind and solar are fine but cannot replace 24 hour dependable energy. We also need to use enriched uranium as it doesn't need to be replaced every 18-24 months, but every 18-20 years like the military. Stupid not to have nuclear be the primary means of electricity. Furthermore, lithium ion battery tech is every energy expensive, catches fire, and comes from China. Great for golf carts, but better more dependable and cheaper/lighter battery tech needs to be made before it will ever cut carbon. Currently if everyone adopted electric cars our grid would collapse.

It's a Vast Left Wing Conspiracy said...

1960s - Oil gone in 10 years
1970s - Another Ice Age in 10 years
1980s - Acid Rain will destroy all crops in 10 years
1990s - The ozone layer will be gone in 10 years
2000 - Ice caps will be gone in 10 years

None happened, but ALL resulted in MORE TAXES.

Plus deep down they know their generation is responsible for this dystopian hell we are suffering with.
They just HAD to dismantle and disrupt the functional society their ancestors built!
Now they blame their grandchildren for it.

@ 3:26 PM -- Nationalize Energy like they're trying to nationalize healthcare? Yeah, that's what we need. The Federal Government -- that dysfunctional entity with long tentacles, greedy and self-indulgent leadership, and $32 TRILLION in debt -- does not need to involve itself in any more of the free markets. They've already F'd up the energy sector enough.

@ 7:35 PM - You need to start watching Fox News (and others), so that you have a balanced perspective. The two largest contributors to factcheck.org are the Annenberg Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Both lean to the port.

But, even the factcheck.org numbers are an attempt at lipstick on a pig. Consumer prices +15.7%, "real" earnings -3.4%, Consumer Confidence -6.4%, crude oil imports +7.3%, trade deficit +30.1%, public debt +18.9%.

Great job my ass! Read past the headlines and sound bites.

Just as people were willing to let old folks die before any treatment options or prevention to deal with Covid existed. That just really isn't anything but self-destructive and stupid.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
