Rankin Sheriff Fires Deputies Accused in Jenkins Shooting

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement at a press conference this afternoon.  The video is posted below.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations was requested to conduct an independent investigation into an incident involving deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department on January 24, 2023. We have cooperated with all investigation efforts related to this incident and have provided all information and data requested in a timely manner. This will continue until all investigative efforts are complete and justice is served. We cannot, however, confirm or deny any specific facts related to this incident because of active and ongoing investigations.

Deputies involved with this incident were placed on administrative leave pending final investigative findings. Due to recent developments, including findings during our internal investigation, those deputies that were still employed at this department have been terminated.

We understand that the alleged actions of these deputies has eroded the public’s trust in our department. Rest assured that we will work diligently to restore that trust. We have already taken actions to ensure that we serve and protect the public while making sure the rights of all citizens are protected. These actions include a detailed analysis of our policies, procedures, and training of all department personnel. We have also retained a full time “Compliance Officer” for monitoring of our daily operations and to ensure our department remains compliant with all state and federal law.

It is my privilege to serve the citizens of Rankin County as Sheriff and it has been my daily goal to run one of the best departments in the State of Mississippi. I believe in my heart that this department remains one of the best departments in our state and I am committed to doing everything in my power to keep this department on a correct path moving forward. The men and women of this department are public servants who are committed to a bright future for this department and for public safety in Rankin County.

Kingfish note: One deputy resigned two months ago. The other five deputies either resigned or were terminated.

That’s awesome! Better than what I expected for sure!! Can’t believe these goons that have been terrorizing the County for years are finally getting some Karma. Richland PD has a couple that are next. I have the video in my office.

Anonymous said...

Have these monsters been racking up public benefits while on paid leave?

Anonymous said...

Good for the Sheriff. They should all be prosecuted if they violated any laws.

Anonymous said...

Well that’s one way to CYA!
Only time will tell if it is effective.

Anonymous said...

Their termination is the least of their problems at this point. Jail time to follow, plus a massive settlement.

The Sheriff's Deputies will ultimately cost Rankin County taxpayers a lot of money. And the buck stops with the Sheriff: he must resign.

Anonymous said...

Weak AF!! How are those 2 not implicated yet!

Anonymous said...

Where there's smoke there's fire(d). Sadly some will likely be hired at some podunk MS LE agency.

Anonymous said...

Body cameras are a must or the high sheriff must go. He's probably gone anyway.

Anonymous said...

Resign!

Anonymous said...

I must say, I was pretty hesitant to believe this happened because it is such an absolutely outlandish story........but if the dept has sufficient cause to fire the deputies, that's pretty damming proof

Anonymous said...

The Rankin County Sheriff's Department has been, and will continue to be, an out of control liability to the Rankin County taxpayers.

Shameful.

Anonymous said...

To the commenters indicating the sheriff should resign .......why? That dude didn't do anything and he fired the guys that did and is in the obvious process of throwing their asses to the wolves.

Why would he resign?

mob mentality that harkens back to running around town with someones head on a stick with torches in hand

Anonymous said...

This good news, but it is a little too little too late. DOJ is probably getting ready to institute criminal charges against the goons who did this, and now the Sheriff is trying to CYA.

Anonymous said...

Hey Sheriff Dipspit.
You turned blind eye as long as they were pulling in cash from unconstitutional seizures.
You let these roided up racist assholes play god with and call themselves “Knights of the Black Asphalt” with their license plate scanners.
Now you are all humble because CNN is showing up!

Maybe, just maybe, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training would be a good thing for his department.

Anonymous said...

Doubt anyone is worried about CNN showing up.

Anonymous said...

3:13
Because if you know him like I do , he is a micromanaging narcissist. That would mean he knew about it prior to when it happened and he also knew about all the other incidents that are also being investigated by the DOJ. That would mean he too will be indicted at some point . He is responsible for his flock .

When will they start releasing all the wrongfully imprisoned people from MDOC these jackasses planted drugs on. All different colors and walks of life have been saying it for years. Were they all
lying? Whose word does the judge believe these cops or the defendant?

Anonymous said...

Rankin resident here, this is just the beginning of what needs to happen.
Its way past time for the good LEOs to demand these horrible one be removed from the job.
These guys give your whole profession a bad name and people like me, who used to support you are losing all faith.
Body cams. You should have nothing to hide and they can only exonerate you.

Anonymous said...

Rankin county resident here, who voted for this sheriff. He should resign if for no other reason that this stupid press conference. What a clown show...on the level of baby Chock. His incompetence was just shown. Just go ahead and retire. You have the years.

Anonymous said...

@3:42
You go tell that to Derick Chauvin and his Brothers in Blue who are sitting in the cell block for murdering Saint George Floyd.

Anonymous said...

Hey some of you attorney types…. Here are the facts as known on another Rankin case.

Cops allege that a drug deal has just been completed at a residence by their confidential
Informant. They pull into the driveway without a warrant and burst through the front door screaming and yelling. The homeowner has cameras inside the house unbeknownst to the officers. As the cops tear apart the bedroom and start rifling through everything they are demanding that the residents consent to the search or else they will come back to the house and “tear through the ceilings until you can see the sky and the place in uninhabitable” so the residents consented and were arrested for a small amount of meth and another for pipe.

Question: this is all on 4k crystal clear video, cops clearly threatening to destroy their house if they have to leave and get a warrant and if they don’t consent to the search they were already doing…. Isn’t this illegal? If a sale did happen why wouldn’t they go get a warrant? Were they required to? Or if a sale goes down and they know it can they just storm the house and deman the people consent?

3:18 nailed it 100% facts. It is past time for someone to uncover this behavior that has gone on way too long.

Sheriff Ben Dover said...

This is likely the tip of the iceberg, and so systemic that the sheriff had to know what was going on. Asset seizures? Very likely. Reselling drugs? Possibly.

Where was the sheriff when the first presser announcing this alleged abuse took place?

Yo sheriff, too little, too late. It's happening on your watch. Man up!

Where is our AG?

MS - also last in law enforcement.

Bryan Bailey will win in a landslide because Niknar doesn’t care they kill blacks. Didn’t bat an eye when the entire sheriffs department opened fire on a mentally ill African-American in Pelahatchie. How many shots did they fire into him? Was the final count 100?

Anonymous said...

Rankin better hope this doesn’t fall under the preview of Mr. Polite . He hates crooked cops as much as welfare thieves. He always gets his man!

One question and one statement from me:

1) there’s obviously some truth to this insane story. With truth on their side, Kingfish, why in the world would they still be retaining a lying, race hustling terrorist like Shabazz? They could have nothing but could lawyers as this is apparently true. If they were real smart, one of their black lawyers not named Shabazz would fire Shabazz and GASP hire a well known white lawyer. It’s rankin county, know your audience fellas. Couldn’t hurt. At a minimum fire Shabazz and you have all of our respect and attention.

2) claims like this are paid out of Mississippi municipal, a self insurance fund that various state agencies across the state pay into. So actually taxpayers all over the state will be paying what could be a very significant settlement/judgment.

Anonymous said...

Cha-ching, the police excess force lottery is fixin' to pay big time. It will be so big that Rankin may need to sell some bonds to pay it.

Anonymous said...

Bailey you should resign NOW for the sake of Rankin County. You do not deserve your position and it is not an honor to have you and the mess you have allowed in your department represent us. I was so hoping these accusations were not true, but knowing other incidents allowed in your department that you had full knowledge of, and participated in, made me think it’s possible with the type of shenanigans you have allowed. Do the right thing and leave so we can begin to heal this embarrassment. To the good deputies that do serve Rankin county, demand he resign, clean up your ranks and may a new leader with honesty and integrity rise to the top.

Kingfish said...

Except the lawsuits will be in federal court.

Anonymous said...

Everyone in the metro area has known the reputation of the Rankin County Sheriff’s for decades. The sheriff knew it, his deputies knew it, and they decided to stay on the same path. They didn’t have the morals to do the right thing before, they lied and covered up for the members of their gang. You can’t fix stupid and this Sheriff is STUPID. Not to mention he has the blood of his terrorist deputies on his hands. He belongs on the other side of the bars with the rest of his gang. Crime doesn’t pay sheriff.

Anonymous said...

Reading the Wingate order on the separate Pelahatchie incident is incredible. They can't even document whether the suspect was armed, remained armed after being turned into hamburger, or actually threw his gun out and hit a deputy. And it seems the same set of folks were involved. And Bryan was there as On Scene Commander. Not a good outcome either.

Bryan needs a rabbi, quick. A truth telling, get it out, fix it, competent advisor. That presser, and even the grammatically incorrect release, was AWFUL.

Or, just disarm RCSO, but they cover 150,000 folks who need to depend on them.

What course of instruction includes "put a gun in their mouth?" Ever??? What the heck has been going on down there for training?

Anonymous said...

"we serve and protect the public while making sure the rights of all citizens are protected."

What a joke. I'm not seeing police departments to protect first and second amendment rights.

Anonymous said...

I have questions about the payments as well! My taxes go up because of these dumbasses we gonna be getting some new supervisors for damn sure !! Pay attention BOS!!

Anonymous said...

Yes, in federal court, and any judgements will still have to be paid.

Anonymous said...

7:18 - What does the Board of Supervisors have to do with it? The Board has no authority over a Sheriff, just as the Board in MadCo has no authority over the retiring Tax Collector who is missing almost a million dollars.

Anonymous said...

The post at 6:55 is the first I've heard about a Pelahatchie incident. Where can we get further information about that if it relates to departmental misconduct?

Anonymous said...

Give them a few days and they will be picked up by another local department.their resignations and firings details will not be shared with the taxpayers. It’ll be like nothing ever happened.

Anonymous said...

Bailey is just trying to cover his ass.All it took was the feds under a Democratic administration to start to investigate and heads started to roll.

Anonymous said...

What are their names?

Anonymous said...

I don’t see anything in the article that spells a slam-dunk for the plaintiffs. We don’t know the facts of the investigation and we don’t know the policy violations that resulted in them being fired.

I have neither seen nor read anything that backs up the plaintiffs’ allegations.

Anonymous said...

Well for all you folks that are bashing the whole dept for the ones who did wrong. They have been fired. Which means they have openings. Why don’t you ride on up to the S.O. and apply for a job. Since you critique the LEO so much maybe you can make a change. Other than that stop complaining about the whole department. I’m sure you will have a different outlook on LEO after wearing that uniform/badge for a couple weeks.

Anonymous said...

7:18 - Please tell us what you think this has to do with the Board of Supervisors.

Anonymous said...

@1:04 - Their tasers were fired dozens of times over a long period of time and it ended with the victim getting shout through the mouth. Those seem to point to a very serious crime being committed by the sheriff’s deputies and with the taser reports showing all the time stamps of the torture session and the resulting gunshot wound through the mouth and then the phony report the deputies came up with for the coverup, I don’t think the sheriff will even be able to present a defense, they will have to pay a settlement of any amount that the victims name.

Anonymous said...

Well, it is election season, and what better way to "look good" than to sacrifice a few to keep the voters happy.
What about criminal charges to follow?

Anonymous said...

@6:40 AM

Nice try. I would do the job better than anyone in history. However, I can’t take the pay cut. Ive got hundreds of employees who count on me. I’ve got three adult offspring attending Ivy League University.

Anonymous said...

@6:40 - I could never in good conscience work with those terrorist scumbags. It takes a certain type of violent pshycho to want to work in the Rankin county sheriff’s office and not many would qualify.

Anonymous said...

The sheriff wasn’t even able to answer how many were fired. If he had, his previous lie 2 minutes prior that all involved deputies had been fired would have been immediately clear. Stop covering up for your gang Shrriff Bailey. Rankin county deserves better than your lies and criminal coverups. Maybe the feds can use RICO to break up his cartel.

Anonymous said...

They should have been fired months ago. Yes, they will likely be hired by some podunk unprofessional LE agency, but not in the metro area, i.e. at some agency with 5-10 officers total that embraces bully cops.

Anonymous said...

It’s easy to see why so many police officers don’t want body cameras. I wouldn’t want evidence of my torture sessions to be made either. We need a law requiring their use, police officers’ testimony can not be trusted and should never be enough without supporting evidence for any conviction. I wonder how many people are sitting in prison now because of this sheriff’s lies?

Anonymous said...

@4:18 - where can we watch this video?

Anonymous said...

Please name those fired and those who resigned. Inquiring minds who’ve been tricked and conned by deputies would like to know.

Anonymous said...

Sheriff "short man complex" was not very impressive reading a poorly written statement penned by someone else.

Rankin, is that the best you can do?

Anonymous said...

A question for the lawyers from a non lawyer: What is the likelihood that other cases connected to the disgraced former deputies get tossed out?

Anonymous said...

6:40 So long as my tax dollars pay their salary, I think I will complain all I want.

If your husband is one of the good ones that you are defending (assumption based on your emotional defense) why didn't he speak up before these "exceptions" almost murdered these men?

Maybe the good ones on the force should be liable to pay all these legal fees and restitution.

Makes more sense than asking the taxpayers to pay since the good ones had to know about this toxic and criminal behavior. I hope they rot in jail.

Not sure if this quote by the thug sheriff is just him being a lying asshole or if the rest of the police departments in the state are actually worse than his group of terrorist gang bangers. Either way, his idea of the correct path is clearly not a legal one and changes have to be made from the top down.

Saw a local TV news story last night that mentioned the deputies didn't have any bodycam footage of the event. That is bad in and of itself, but the story also said the deputies had no bodycam footage recorded for weeks prior to this event. An officer failing to record bodycam footage for weeks at a time is a problem that falls directly on supervisors up the chain of command. If true, this won't end with the officers.

Anonymous said...

1:10 - What's this 'Civil Service Commission' of which you speak?

The Sheriff's resignation (or not) will depend on two things:

1) Whether he is vested in PERS, and

2) The age of his bass boat.

@11:19, this is 6:24. Because this story was so bizarre it would be hard to believe it? And lll say it again, having Shabazz involved damages the credibility.

Kingfish had previously posted an addendum to a post that there were rumblings among surrounding LEO agencies that some, a lot, or all of the allegations were true. If kingfish has that info, so do attorneys that would be happy to hand a LEO a McDonald’s bag without McDonald’s food in it for that info/referral. If there’s some credible information that these allegations are at least partially true, there’s a line around the block of attorneys of any demographic you would like. If these allegations are even slightly true, they need to get away from Shabazz asap

Imagine getting pulled over by the RCSO in a rental car with Texas plates. They tear it apart and find “a little bit of meth” that you had no idea was under the spare tire.

Now compare that to Javier and Conception getting pulled over with 12 kilos of North Korea’s finest synthetic dope.

There is an important distinction!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
