The Seabees base is under attack in Gulfport but not from a foreign enemy. The Maritime Executive reported:
Facing a persistent security threat around its perimeter, a U.S. Navy support base has set up a blockade of shipping containers to prevent stray bullets from harming personnel and dependents - not in Iraq, but in Gulfport, Mississippi. Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport is located on the city's west side. Its primary mission is support for the Naval Construction Forces, also known as the “Fighting Seabees," and it is known locally as the "Seabee Base." A neighborhood of detached single-family homes sits at the southwest corner of the base, just across the street from the William Bell Apartments, a HUD-subsidized affordable housing complex constructed in 1970. Though Gulfport is safer than the state capital of Jackson, it has an elevated crime rate overall, approximately twice the national average. Gunfire in low-income neighborhoods in Gulfport is a regular occurrence, including periodic armed confrontations at the William Bell complex. The perpetrators are often teenagers, including one 16-year-old arrested last year at the apartment complex for a fatal shooting. In a recent incident, "one of the bullets, or several bullets, struck one of the houses over there” on the Seabee base, Gulfport Councilman Kenneth Casey told local WLOX earlier this year. (NBC gave the number of naval base houses struck by stray gunfire as five separate units.)... Rest of article.

And Democrats want to move low income subsidized housing to the suburbs. They don’t want us to have nice things.
Mayor Hewes better call out his police force to deal with these vermin before a better politically-connected state steals the NCBC.
It's a Jackistan wannabe. They could step it up a few notches if they hired Chowke as a consultant. Right?
I wonder if these cities are run by the left?
Good idea, build a wall around the shithole and let them hunger games one another. Try that up here in Jackson too please.
I certainly never accused the Navy of being dumb. If they want a sea container between their base and one of the hoods in Gulfport, it makes sense to me.
There are lots of these metal containers around since we buy a lot more stuff from China than we sell to them and they are not willing to have them shipped back to China empty, so maybe his honor could buy a bunch of them for the south side of Jackson, especially if his sister or Richard's is selling them.
Next thing you know the mayor of Jackson will be demanding the empty containers be filled with Jackson's garbage to help stop the bullets and all with federally funds.
It could be a win-win for The City With Soul!
Did you miss this little jewel?
"Though Gulfport is safer than the state capital of Jackson, it has an elevated crime rate overall, approximately twice the national average. Gunfire in low-income neighborhoods in Gulfport is a regular occurrence."
Yeah, we have double the crime as the rest of the nation, but we are still better than Lumumbaville!
Actually a very good idea. Now, wonder when the graffiti starts showing up on the down range side.
Democrat run?
There is a Section 8 apartment complex right across the street. Same problems with that one as that one just outside of Canton creates.
Isn't it actually Section 5.56?
Old news.
Shoot back.

Here, here. I'll raise a short toast to you tonight. Have quite a few others so it will have to be short.

Uh, shipping containers are made to be stacked, maybe add another layer.
@5:01 PM - Public service grammatical help: It is "hear, hear." You are welcome.
Move the base to Lake Pontchartrain. Problem solved.
Not sure what it is about military bases, but when I was on active duty 20-25 years ago, they were usually in sketchy parts of town. I'm sure it wasn't as bad when they were built, but for some reason the surrounding areas sometimes became a hood. Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery in an example
So the military and federal government are admitting perimeter(border) walls work? That's a novel idea.
Tate should mobilize his police force and send them to Gulfport,
Just like Hawkins Field in Jackson, but not as bad.
John Wayne portrayed these original guys in the 1944 film "The Fighting Seabees" .
However, back then ... real men were drinking whiskey and winning World Wars.
No soy milk for those guys.
Murder in Ridgeland, Bullets flying in Biloxi/Gulfport. Y'all let Jackson go to poo-poo and y'all are right behind us. As it gets worse here, it's gonna get worse for y'all, just not as bad at first....But it will. I ran the roads in Gulfport Biloxi from 1989 to 2005 and I never remember a shooting or even being uncomfortable in the "lower income" areas.
