Another outdoor event was cancelled in the Jackson metro area due to violence. The city of Pearl issued the following statement:
Mayor Jake Windham and the Outlets of Mississippi agreed it would be best for the carnival on the Outlets property to move on to its next stop and has been cancelled here in Pearl.
Law enforcement sources said the attendance was between three and four thousand people. The security plan for the special event application stated forty law enforcement officers would be used.
There was no charge for admission nor were there any barriers. People could simply park anywhere and simply walk into the carnival without even passing through a gate.

Oh great. Now the Carnival’s lawyers get to sue us for breach of contract. Great job Mayor!
That will leave more dope to peddle at their next stop. Right carnies?
Cancelled - British version
Canceled - Our version
Until the issues of poverty and easy access to guns it’s going to follow you where ever you go . If you think you can run to Madison, Gluckstadt or Flora good luck, it’s coming to your door step next.
Depends on the language of the contract(s).
I visited the metro this weekend and we felt like everyone was angry and defensive . Forget about DEI training, the whole area needs Anger Management classes.
Pretty much any type of gathering has seen violence lately, particularly “street parties”, but also family reunions and even funerals. Haven’t seen any media attention about this trend.
How does "poverty" make someone act a fool and start shooting?
... and easy access to guns ...
Besides theft, where is it easy? Be specific.
7:29 - Both are correct. I have always been taught to use "cancelled." I'm not British.

There is more economic opportunity available right now at a higher wage than at any other time in history. If an individual wants to generate an income, he, or she will have no problem accomplishing the task.
If your living in poverty, that's a decision, not a matter of circumstance.
Gun problem? Don't get me started.
"Until the issues of poverty and easy access to guns..." -- there are lots of examples of people living normal, and even upwardly successful lives, in an environment of poverty with guns present. The difference? They were raised by good, God-fearing parents, who taught them right from wrong, didn't let them roam the streets, and held them accountable for their actions.
I didn't see or sense any hostility around Thalia Mara Hall this weekend for the IBC closing recital. Full house, Capitol police were out in force maintaining traffic flow, very nice crowd. This must be like what the old folks have told me Jackson used to be like a few decades ago.
"Until the issues of poverty and easy access to guns it’s going to follow you where ever you go."
It is a huge and unproven link in the chain of causation to say that poverty and access to firearms turn people into violent criminals. People commit violent crimes because they are violent criminals.
I think 8:09 is more accurate with the comment about anger management.
Why not just day Pearl in your caption. Had to include Jackson some way!
@7:53 no one in America knows true poverty. I guarantee you every person there had a cell phone.
@7:53 people living in "poverty" go to carnivals and have guns and cell phones?
@7:53 trolling these boys is as easy as melting ice on a sunny day.
11:19 AM...Exactly. Only country in the world where "poor" people are morbidly obese. Being in poverty does not make one violent. Just like putting a gun in someone's pocket does not make them violent.
Agree 8:22
It does seem like any mass gathering or even crowded store is just a powder keg of angry, selfish idiots these days.
Society is rather revolting at present, en masse.
Just another day in modern day America. It’s a shame.

A ballet recital is really not fertile ground for a gunfight and some World Star activity.
However, put on a hip-hop show and watch Jackson's best and brightest do their thing !!
This whole thing must be some really big shit since it warrants two threads on the blog about event cancellation.
@10:12....different culture and class of folks attending the IBC than the folks who toss boogar-nosed kids onto deathtrap rides operated by meth-heads while they gulp down cheap beer and try to breed with the other scumss inked-up and pierced wives. Pearl is still the gem it always was and the brick veneer Taco Bell in Madison is still a Taco Bell on the inside.

Surprised your pipsqueak comment was green-lighted to be published. Leave it to Kingfish to generously indulge even the smallest of small piss ants in the metro.
Notice the hypocrisy in the sub headline .. KF now say “Jackson metro”. It’s in PEARL F$&@er. There’s nothing Jackson about it!

Okay 3:20, Sir/Madam/other pronoun?
So now one might wonder, wherefore doest thou live with such high discernment? -that you call out all others?
10:59, exactly! If two separate incidents happen, and the only difference is that one occurs in Jackson and the other occurs in the suburbs, the incident in Jackson would get covered completely differently on here than the one in the suburbs. There’s a completely different standard for the comments that would be approved too. It’s beyond absurd.
5:12, Keep telling yourself it's just racism. The fact is that Jackson is the homicide capital of the U.S. for at least the last couple of years, with a 1/2-staffed police department.
If Jackson is covered differently, which I doubt, it's because Jackson IS different.
It’s beyond absurd.
And yet here you are reading and commenting. Absurd.
12:45 for today's win!!!
Too bad you guys can’t have a functioning city like BR (18th best city) and National Champions in a couple of sports like LA!
This thread ain't near as interesting as the Homeowner's Association one.
The HOA comments obviously represent an upper crust group of refined society, while this thread is totally about rednecks being rednecks and thugs being thugs.
And First Fridays on Farish has been humming along without any problems for months. Go figure!
"That will leave more dope to peddle at their next stop. Right carnies?"
Wrong, Gomer. Nobody goes to a carnival to score dope from carnies. But you can bet your ass it's the other way around.
6:08. That is because nobody goes to it. Or gives a sh*t about it.
Been said before on this site. We can't have anything nice due to our collective behavior, and obviously not just limited to downtown.
10.01 mailed the issue. If we could fix the family a lot of this would take care of itself.
