There are weight limit signs on both ends. Get out your check-book Bubba.

They're going to need a few rolls of duck tape to fix that!

Who ever said that a well drilling rig can't do a wheelie?

Will be interesting to see how they get that rig out of there and what side of the river they take it out on.

I asked on the other article about the bridge collapse, I will ask here, also, who has legal control of that bridge?

Take a look at the piling on the right side of the bridge. It has sunk. This may not be all of his fault so everyone just hold on. Snap on the picture and zoom in and look at it.

30 years ago the list of unsafe bridges in Mississippi was in the 100's.
At least in Jackson, there's been some attention given to trying to repair a few for the first time in memory.

@1:32 PM - when you exceed the rated weight for a bridge and a piling collapses it's likely your fault.

It sure is funny (not!) that we pay an awful lot of fuel tax but get nothing in return for our investment. I have no problem if the state wants to raise the fuel tax but at least use it for what it’s intended for. This bridge is indicative of how the city of jackson has operated since 1997 when the last competent administration was in control. We didn’t have this issue back then. The State Highway department as it used to be known as was once run by people who took pride in their work but they had no idea that their designs were well below standards of what it takes to operate equipment to handle loads of this nature. But the strange thing is, workover rigs have been used for over 70 years and that’s what is confusing as to why bridges were built using designs that weren’t sufficient. We as a modern society must think forward as what our needs will be in the next 50 years and plan for that. We aren’t using our intelligence as we should. The driver of the rig cannot be blamed fully for this accident, because he was more than likely not aware of the condition of the bridge. There is no telling how many times he has crossed over bridges like this, but His employer knew the risk yet he rolled the dice. What I’m saying is don’t blame the man who drove the rig, yet he has a responsibility to know the DOT laws.

12:43, the inspection report lists the owner as “County Highway Agency” so Wilkinson County owns and is responsible for it. It is not on a State Aid Route. Wilkinson County has 74 bridges, 36 of which are on State Aid routes, but this one is not.

1:32, if this equipment is overweight as stated on the signage, the blame game is over, regardless of the current conditions of anything to do with the bridge.

Not Woodville but Fort Adams. Woodville is 22 miles to the east.

He almost made it

These look like clean breaks, the panels could possibly be salvaged and with the right equipment this could be fixed in a few months.

January 1, 2023 at 2:55 PM, thank you for the answer. I was curious as to what entity would be seeking restitution for damages.

Are workover rigs not as heavy as drilling rigs?

Did anyone get hurt?

12:43,it's on a County road. Under control of the board of supervisors. Probably condemned within the past few years like many others throughout the state, but allowed to stay open due to the fact that it provided the only access to the area. There was once two access routes, but the other at the North end of Lake Mary was washed away many years ago.

Ol Red H. may take a hit on this one. IF this was his equipment, his employee and his job that this equipment and driver were en route to.

CODE BROWN gonna need a big @$$ wrecker or two and some clean overhauls said...

I’m wondering myself if it is a Hancock rig. Remember they had 6 workers involved in an explosion in July of 2022 in Madison County.

1/1, 2:54, the rig driver is fully responsible; he saw the posted signs, knew what his rig weighed, but chose to drive over the bridge anyway (if the county failed to actually put up the posted signs then that adds a level of complexity). The rig owner, prior to bidding the job, should have referenced online maps of weight limited bridges and taken that into consideration. Also, there’s no reason to disparage MDOT. Their engineers certainly know what they are designing for and take into consideration future needs for interstate and state routes. However, at the county level, especially on non-State Aid routes, it’s a whole different ballgame. A bridge might be designed by the county engineer using State Aid bridge standards or it might be “designed” and built by a road crew using materials from the county boneyard, or something in between. Or, a properly built bridge might be repaired with no engineering input. Most counties in Mississippi are forced into this situation by inadequate funding.

Hancock does not own any rigs. This Workover rig belongs to Delta out of Vidalia. It is a sister company to D&D Drilling.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
