Governor Qualifies to Run for Second Term

Governor Tate Reeves qualified to run for re-election yesterday at Mississippi Republican Party headquarters in Jackson.

A gaggle of reporters looked on as Governor Reeves touted his conservative leadership.  He said his administration returned nearly $600 million dollars in tax cuts to the taxpayers while signed a record teacher pay raise into law.  He discussed the Dobbs decision, a possible Waller candidacy, education progress, Jackson's current water crisis, and expansion of Medicaid post-partum coverage. The presser is posted below.

5:22, a flag is you only reason to oppose him? Get a life.

That's funny. I voted for Hood last round (mostly because of something documented in Dispatches from Pluto and a distant relative on my wife's side), but I'll be voting for Reeves this time.

David Archie supports Bill Waller.

Lil Tater can win without my vote this time. And he will win without my vote, but only one of us will be keeping to the principle of doing what he says he’ll do, and that will be me.

I'm hoping Bill Waller Jr runs again.

Some of y'all need to blame Phil, not Tate, for Phil's shortcomings. I will slam down hard to elect Tate Reeves again.

I agree with 6:44, he’ll win without my vote. Mostly because the MS Republican Party makes sure only someone who has the size tolerance for Haley Barbour’s hand up their ass is nominated. But I do hope that every small business owner that was crippled or put out of business by Reeves’ nonsense COVID response sits this election out.

I'm hoping Bill Waller Jr runs again as well, so that his thin-skin can get punctured again. For his crying after the last election, saying it was "so dirty" exposed him for what he is - and his failure to support the Republican nominee after losing shows that he is nothing more than a narcacissist that sat on the bench too long.

And if he does run, at least Josh will finally have found someone that will fund his lifestyle this season; he's been looking far and wide.

5:22. LB. !!!!! Settle down. You are 78 now. And start tithing for once.

Tater is such an empty suit. My vote is for Waller.

So does David Archie.

I'm voting for him, he's been good on gun rights

Y'all have elected him for the past 20 years.

The voters will not go against Tate! Ms voters don’t care so Tate you are safe my buddy!

Anonymous said...

We can keep Tate but Lynn has to GO!

Anonymous said...

We need Lynn and Shad gone so we can question lynn about that 5k she received from New in the last election. If Shad and Lynn is gone that’s the start of the state biggest fraud case where millions was stolen from welfare.

Can’t wait to vote for someone else

Anonymous said...

He said that he doesn’t like being in Jackson. So let’s not give him a job that is based in Jackson. Be nice to Tate and vote for someone—anyone—else.

Why is anyone surprised anymore when MS has crooked elected officials? Andy Taggart wrote a history book about it, no? Just because the Sun & Sand hasn't been around in several years doesn't mean that business has stopped.

If a flag is all some of you are concerned about then you’re shallow. What he accomplished with the COJ water issue was very impressive. Now, let’s just agree that the past 5 mayors did not take how serious it is to maintain your infrastructure. Tate did an outstanding job by assembling the people he did to get the water treatment facilities up and running when he should not have had to do that in the first place. It’s not up to the State to make sure jackson has water, It’s up to the mayors past and present to perform maintenance. Sure, I will vote for him again. As far as a State flag goes, there is only one flag I am loyal to and you should be also. If I never see a state flag on a pole again it sure won’t hurt my feelings. I never look for one to begin with. You could put someone plated in Gold on the ballot and there would still gripe.

I hope Delbert takes on Tate. There are plenty of moderate Democrats who will vote for Delbert. I know you Trumpsters love Tate, but he is one of the worst Governors in MS history and the butt of jokes across the country.

Mayor Lumumba for Governor! Rukia Lumumba for Auditor. Safiya Omari for AG.

Just kidding. I put the crack pipe down.

How about we stop wearing the same old clothes, and instead go out and buy something new.

Anonymous said...

Lmao at all the seething. MS Democrats can't field a half way decent candidate.

Anonymous said...

'there are plenty of moderate democrats who will vote for Delbert'

That's because he's a democrat. He was rolled into state government on wooden wheels just like the Trojan Horse.

Anonymous said...

I'm lukewarm for Tate at best, but the COJ water crisis handling secured my vote for him. He improved that situation and did not sugarcoat things for the PC crowd.

Not voting for him based on the Flag removal is almost as bad as the voters of Jackson who would still vote for Chuckie solely because he is black.

Just keep placing your vote based on things that don't equate to competent leadership, and see where you end up. Although I must agree, MS cant get much worse and I too am so tired of voting for the least horrible options in state and federal cases.

I am going to vote for Bill Waller Jr. Like it or not, “Obamacare” is here to stay. Mississippi is one of only 12 states that has not expanded Medicaid for the working poor. The federal government would fund 90% of Medicaid expansion. Why not get the benefit of our federal tax dollars instead of our tax dollars going to the other 38 states that have expanded Medicaid. It’s a no brainer.

Anonymous said...

6:57. I guess I don't have a problem with Waller running again. But, he shouldn't be able to run as a Republican given that his campaign platform essentially adopts the MS Democratic Party platform. Higher taxes. More Government. More Welfare. A Democrat wants to run? Fine. Run as a Democrat.

Anonymous said...

@9:34am - That’s the great thing about America. You can lie all you want and still be elected.

Anonymous said...

9:34 = Same and fully agree.
Let him run, but for the party he represents.

Anonymous said...

I will not vote again until Mississippi changes to hand counted paper ballots.

Anonymous said...

5:22 and 7:52, y'all are so ick.

And what is with ultra right wingers calling every Republican but themselves Democrats? Gross. This faction in Congress is so embarrassing.

Anonymous said...

Even though he is crashing at his Flowood crib due to lack of water in Jacktown, Tater still qualifies. It is interesting to note that the Rankin Co. bureaucrats have removed his address from the assessor's database, but it is still all over the web.

Anonymous said...

Andy Taggart wrote a book about 'crooked' right after he pulled out of the supervisors' race, after the qualifying deadline, purposefully leaving nobody on the ballot but D.I.Smith. Talk about crooked. But then you people got Steen, so it's been Karma Round-Robin with enough crooked to go 'round.

Haley got elected because his family owns the party. Tate got elected because he's easily managed by his handlers (Haley, et al). Fitch continues to be elected because who the hell knows. The era of the 'red dress' is over. It's time for competency.

'Head Clown runs for re election. A volleyball court for everyone, and tax breaks for my friends!!!!! Huzzah.'

Ah, it was Phil who built the volleyball arena at his alma mater.

What tax breaks? Did you mean income tax breaks, like for those who actually have...wait for it...incomes?

Anonymous said...

I'm for Waller and Medicaid expansion.

Anonymous said...

I have not voted democrat since I graduated college, but isn't George Flaggs running for governor? I've respected him since the first time he appeared on Gallo, many years ago.

One thing for damned sure...Haley doesn't own George. Neither do all those white-haired guys downtown at Republican headquarters.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
