Boil Water Notice for Jackson

Press conference streamed below.

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

Due to water pressure issues at the O.B. Curtis Water Plant, the City of Jackson is issuing a citywide boil water notice. A water distribution site has been set up to accommodate residents with low or no water pressure. City officials will hold a media briefing at City Hall at 1 p.m. to address the issue.

This notice affects all surface and well water customers. Mechanical issues with filtration equipment at the plant, combined with higher than normal demand due to prolonged high temperatures, has led to low water pressure in both systems. Once pressure drops below 65 psi, the City of Jackson is required to issue a citywide notice. The Environmental Protection Agency and Mississippi Department of Health have been notified.

In response, the City is handing out cases of bottled water at Forest Hill High School beginning at 10:30 a.m. Affected residents will also have access to potable water at Fire Station 23. The station is directly across the street from the school. The Jackson Fire Department will be handing out buckets to fill water in as supplies last. It is advised that residents bring a container of their own.

This is a precautionary advisory. This notice does not mean that your water is unsafe, but it does mean that you must take precaution and boil your water before use. All customers are advised to boil their drinking water until adequate pressure is restored to the system. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute for the following: cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks feeding pets, washing dishes and all other consumption.

RESIDENTS WILL BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE ADVISORY IS LIFTED. For more information, customers may call 601-960-2723 during business hours or 601-960-1778 (or 601-960-1875) after 4 p.m. and on weekends.

Kingfish note: Jackson CAO Marlon Walker addressed the problem at a press conference.

Mr. Walker said several valves need replacing. It takes 3-4 hours to replace each valve.  The contractor is still assessing the repairs needed at the plant.

Is this for all of the city of Jackson?

Mechanical issues with filtration equipment at the plant, combined with higher than normal demand due to prolonged high temperatures, has led to low water pressure in both systems.

Conservation Advisory was all a set up from the outset to obscure from the public the incompetent management of OBC and the total failure of the Lumumba administration.

The never ending story....

Imagine that-

"This doesn't mean that your water is unsafe." YES IT DOES!!!!

Anonymous said...

Why the F*&K wasn't friggin' Mayor Lumumba at the presser?

Anonymous said...

The valves that need replacing will be ordered sometime during the next 12-14 months, right?

Keep voting for Chowke and expect different results, losers.

Many chemicals like nitrates, arsenic, lead, barium, HAAS, petrclorates, pesticides, pfas, countless pharmaceuticals and fluoride become concentrated in boiled water. Given jackson propensity to improperly treat its water, consuming boiled water may be detrimental to one’s health. Clearly the city knows of a serious issue and possibly are covering up being put on notice by one or more of the federal alphabet agencies. Drinking bottled water only may be the route to go.

Jackson is literally an Empire of Dust

The word of today children is incompetent. You vote for incompetent and everything that falls underneath is incompetent. The city of Jackson is run and has hired a crap load of incompetent people at every level. Same for our school systems in Hinds county all run by incompetent people from principles to administration. And there’s one commonality among them all besides incompetence.

And the saga continues

Many parts of Jackson already have no water pressure and it is getting worse by the minute. Latest debacle of Antar Lumumba. What in the world will he use to deflect blame this time? Restaurant business for this weekend is shot.

@1:15 The mayor is on a jet(at taxpayer expense) with Ronnie Musgrove. He is drinking sparkling water at 30,000 ft that no one had to boil.

Perhaps the city should issue a boiled mayor alert. K Stokes has already issued a baked mayor alert.

I can confirm that it is affecting Trustmark downtown.

It's all so tiresome.

@1:40 PM - And that "commonality" is:

1. Americans
2. Mississippians
3. Mammals
4. Dems
5. Other

Why does a problem at OB Curtis affect well water customers?

Anonymous said...

While drinking his Chardonnay at 38,000 feet en route to his latest out-of-state Marxist event, Prince Chowke has announced that this very minor water hickup is due to the heat, gun shows, and the SCOTUS Dobbs decision.

I thought Trustmark had left a while back.

They're still in Jackson ??

Jackson has water problems? Well, I never.

Anonymous said...

What kind of racism is causing this problem?!? Why can’t the state bail out Jackson!?!

Anonymous said...

@2:40 6. Can’t say as that would be racist.

But lets rename Ellis Avenue & spend million plus instead of fixing the water crisis

Find the best public works directors in the nation. Offer them the job in Jackson with a salary of two million dollars to be paid at the end of each year with one condition. Every time the city has to hold a press conference about a system failure you lose $100K from your annual salary.

so...millsaps and 'the hat' were right to dig their own wells..

Yes they are still in Jackson. There was a rumor floating around back in 2018 that they were looking to move out of Jackson but they opted to rennovate. Well the rennovated the HR building, but halted rennovations after assessing that the 10 million dollar building would still be a 10 million dollar building after complete overhaul. Don't know what they plan to do next though. I'll be the last to know.

If Jackistan doesn't have a boil water notice at least once every 90-days it could lose its status as a third world city.

Anonymous said...

Everyone should “boil” their tires on the way out of Jackson

We saw this coming last Tuesday.

Please spend some Chicken Head Man sign money on fixin the water.

Is it true that the city purchased a whole-house water filtration system for Chowke's gated compound?

It’s 8 AM Saturday June 25, I’m at my office building on Capital Street, water pressure so low they can’t run the cooling towers , so no air conditioning on a day it’s supposed to be a 100 degrees. How am I supposed to keep this diversity equitable economy running with no AC on a 100 degree day? Drop a couple of 20’s on the sidewalk for the crackheads? It’s to hot in here to work.

After a long hard decision I have decided to move my business from Jackson. The property value is not what it was and it’s my fault for staying but it’s a costly endeavor anyway you go. The financial burden of moving was the underlying reason for me staying as long as I did. We all survived the scamdemic and now our once fine city has evolved into a third world country. The wife and I were going to go to Bravo’s or Manship this morning for Brunch but the. water issue has shot the hell out of that. This city has become useful to no one but criminals.
No useable water
No useable streets
Sewers are in poor condition
Leaders are inept
Judges can be bought off
The City is in a Congressman’s District who REALLY wanted this to happen.
Don’t call the police unless you want to wait 45 minutes for a response.

Anonymous said...

Despite the hard work and potential financial challenges you won't regret the move for a minute 9:16 once you are gone. After a short period of time you'll kick yourself for not acting sooner.

No water on my street in LOHO today.

Hang your head in shame Chokwe Antar Lumumba.

Hang your head in shame.

Was at early supper in Fondren last night and went to restroom on my way into the place. When washing my hands I thought the water pressure was low. Then I saw this halfway through eating and drinking water. By then it was too late but I did not consume any more water or ice. We finished and left. Would’ve stayed longer but no one wanted to based on this info. how many nice restaurants lose money every time this happens. Other businesses too but damn I don’t know how they make it.

Personally, I’d rather the Mayor solve the climate crisis than providing basic necessities to my household.

Anonymous said...

9:16: you are assuming you have a wait time from the Jackson police. That’s only IF they decide to answer your 911 call.

I cannot imagine living in a city that can’t/doesn’t provide something as basic as reliable, safe, drinking water. I am a black male. I live in a City within an hour drive of Jackson that is as old as Jackson. We very seldom lose water pressure or have a boil water notice. If we do, it is very brief. We are majority Black with a majority Black leadership. We do not have anywhere near the tax base and revenue of Jackson. Our leaders are able to maintain our system and provide water without constant interruptions, without having to beg the state or feds for money. Jackson’s problem is not Black leadership, it is incompetent leadership. Good luck Jacksonians.

Hottest day of the year and dirty water because the city’s waterworks employees work from home. YES it’s true. Know why ? Besides the heat ? There is no one there to hold them accountable! Lazy workers are like sneaking teens.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
