Snapshot: Showing the Money

The backbone of every political campaign is money.  How are the candidates doing raising money in the Republican runoffs in Congressional Districts 3 and 4?

A longer post on the District 3 race will be published over the weekend.   However, campaigns don't run on hope and promise alone but money as well.  These reports are from two weeks ago so it will be interesting to see what the next update reveals.

I'm Voting For Cassidy.

Anonymous said...

My mailbox is flooded with postcards with crazy accusations against Cassidy. But I've read nary a claimed accomplishment by Michael Guest.

So I'll vote for Cassidy.

Anonymous said...

Judging from all the hit pieces I'm getting in my mailbox, Michael Guest must be scared right down to his socks. Not one thing to defend his own record - just mud slung the other way.

Anonymous said...

Praying for Jackson, then you should be praying for the country. Your guy's socialist platform will go great with AOC in the House, and Bernie Sanders will be glad to see him across the Capitol on the so-called conservative side of the aisle - so called because if he got there all of a sudden there would be a tsunami in the middle of the floor as he pushes his Medicare for all, and child payment scheme that he touts. Or touted, until he got called out about the ridiculousness of it.

Anonymous said...

Wake up Mississippi and I don't mean get WOKE! All you have to do is google some of the "pork bills" that Guest has voted for and you can easisly see he is a RINO! And personally I have no use for the two clown senators as well!!!

Guest voting for Chuck & Nancy’s witch hunt is unforgivable.
Doesn’t matter if he was against it after he voted for it.

when an incumbent starts calling his opponent a ''carpetbagger'' and tries to portray him as some sort of cartoon character, that means he running scared and is desperate.

ads like that insult the intelligence of educated people.

in case no one told you mr guest, us voters are not characters from ''gone with the wind''.

guest better go buy himself some pepto-bismol cause this is gonna be the upset of the week.

These folks talking about Cassidy have never been to DC (except for Jan 6). Not even a clown show. More like the dolts picking out the colorful wigs thinking they are the circus. Step aside.

Cong. 3 race is like living in 1992 all over again. Back then we had this guy named Perot and all these Republicans went nuts over him, 20m votes for that guy. No matter how many times these people were told a vote for Perot would help Clinton, they just wouldn’t listen and we have the Clinton machine to this day. Now we have this Cassidy guy. No matter he supports socialist ideals, puts them on his website then takes them off, his supporters just won’t listen. This is a republican primary and all these republicans are supporting a socialist nut bag who isn’t even from here. You couldn’t make this crap up. One of my democrat friends was laughing his ass off the other day saying Republicans are now for dope and a Bernie Sanders clone. y’all crazy as hell.

Voted for Cassidy in the Primary. Am voting for Guest in the General. I had no idea that Cassidy proposed a $20,000 wedding present or a payment for parents. Seems like that will encourage more folks to have kids so they can get paid.

Raider said...

Please vote for Guest who is someone who actually can make a difference and not some wing nut like Cassidy who has strange plans that won’t get anywhere. I voted for Trump twice, but he’s done and while his polices were good, he needs to go home to Florida and stay there. He caused the January 6 problems and is a narcissist. We need people who can work within the system I’m worried for our country when people like Cassidy and show up and have these unreal ideas and won’t accomplish anything. Call me a RINO if you wish, but I’ve been a Republican since the 80’s when it wasn’t cool

Anonymous said...

I'm going to vote for the Mississippian.

Anonymous said...

Guest has become a complacent swamp dweller, he took his constituents votes for granted until the wake up call from Cassidy, then the attack ads, MSM, establishment support came out. Found it funny that Guest, who was born in New Jersey, played the carpet bagger card. As to the "wedding gift", it proposes expanding the current child tax deduction from a maximum of $3,600 to $10,000 for working families not currently receiving government assistance. I'll take a fighting Navy pilot over a Millionaire Lawyer.

It’s always sobering to see how the GOP machine happily destroys one of its candidates and anyone associated with them. You’ve seen what they did to Chris McDaniel and anyone supporting him. You’ve seen how they shut down any Republican voter’s voice for state electors during Trump’s 2016 primary run.

These overlords have no problem pandering to Democrat voters to throw a primary runoff to their pick. Maybe pandering isn’t the right word for campaigning to democrats how the racist and bigoted voters in the Republican Party must be stopped at all cost for a more reasonable and moderate candidate so jump over and vote in our primary.

It’s a sickening bunch at the top of MS GOP.

Anonymous said...

If we choose, we can vote Cassidy out just as easily as we are voting Guest out.
Oppose the will of the people and lose you job.
Michael Guest forgot who is boss is. It’s not Bennie Thompson. It’s the voters of his district.
The overwhelming majority of this state rejects the Jan. 6 kangaroo court.
SCOTUS is overturning a lot of leftist nonsense.
Soon the loony left will riot again and lose even more support.
This time the will riot during a food crisis and energy shortages instead of a Plandemic.

Anonymous said...

1. Of course he is running scared. He lost the vote county in the primary. Advice: Always run as if you are scared and getting beat. Acting like you have it won is how you lose. 2. Mud slinging is generally making personal insults and trading barbs that don't have anything to do with policy. Cassidy proposed $48 trillion in new welfare/entitlement programs. Medicare for all!! That's fair game and relevant to a lot of voters who really didn't know this guy's policies look like those of the current D party. 3. Campaign fundraising totals aren't remotely going to tell the tale of the war chests in this runoff.

One of my democrat friends was laughing his ass off

Wow you sound like a concern trolling RINO.
Democrats are insufferably stupid, evil, and possessed by demons.
No real conservative or Libertarian could spend more than 5 minutes talking to a democrat without tuning them out.

Anonymous said...

Michael Guest can come back home and run his collections agency. He will have plenty of collections work to do, since he voted for on all the Democrats deficit spending which is bankrupting the nation and driving the citizens into poverty.

NOTICE:
If you truly believe that the lawful protests on January 6, 2021 were anything more than a lawful protest against a stolen election… Just turn in your Conservative card because you are a democrat now.

In two terms Guest became a swamp creature, starting enjoying the Georgetown cocktail parties too much. I’m voting Cassidy, if he doesn’t work out we can primary him out. The people running the hit pieces for Guest are the same people who went after Chris McDaniel, I still haven’t got past that betrayal by the Mississippi swamp creatures.

Just yesterday, the Justice Department released a statement basically admonishing a SCOTUS decision. It's only a matter of time before the Executive branch ignores and doesn't enforce a SCOTUS ruling. The rule of law is under attack by whacky progressive. The administrative state is out of control. Congress has the power of the purse, and it is time for Republicans (and voters for that matter) to start using that power and begin fighting back against those in the administrative agencies who think they run this country. Guest has proven over and over he will vote to keep funding these out of control agencies instead of reigning them in.

Anonymous said...

7:01, storming the Capitol while the Congress was inside is not a lawful protest. You need a break from the internet.

Anonymous said...

@7:01, right on, brother.

I had to make a 6-hour round trip yesterday, something I rarely do. The radio was filled with negative commercials from Guest, but as another poster said, not one promoting his accomplishments.

The old, put the do nothing incumbent back in because of seniority nonsense, is why the status quo dominates in Washington.

Guest has a record of his accomplishments, or lack of, in D.C. Let the new guy have his turn. If he's not getting the job done, in 2-years, send his ass home.

Anonymous said...

I am voting and encouraging my friends to vote for CASSIDY. 11:30 looks like you fell for all the mudslinging Guest is putting out. Cassidy is a veteran and I will always vote for a veteran over a career politician. WE NEED TERM LIMITS.

It wasn’t cool to be a Republican back when Reagan was winning 49 states and Trent Lott and Thad Cochran were getting elected to Congress? OK.

Cassidy has floated a lot of half truths out about Guest and the Trump or Die crowd is eating it up. The fact so many "constitutionalists" or whatever they call themselves these days think every Republican candidate has to kiss his ring or they are a Rhino is laughable. They are willing to overlook the fact the guy is super liberal but says all the right things, "I'm with Trump", is scary in and of itself. Cassidy's parents are uber liberals. His mom worked for the Sierra Club for 16 years per her linkdin profile. The Sierra Club is one of the main groups opposing the Yazoo Backwater pumps. That is the project that is half built and allows the south delta to flood. Do you think the apple falls far from the tree? I don't. Cassidy doesn't come to Rankin County or I would ask him. I do hear he's been in all the assisted living facilities peddling his message. That's low brow if you ask me.

@10:09 PM
Cassidy voter here.

I have been to DC several times. Done all the touristy stuff. Saw the Cherry blossoms, The Smithsonian, the National Air and Space Museum. Rode the really nice DC Metro too.

I completely understand how Michael Guest can become enamored with Washington DC and forget all about Hinds, Rankin and Madison counties. We are nobodies compared to DC & Alexandria, VA.

I want someone like Rand Paul representing me. Someone who will propose a balanced budget every session. Someone who stands up for our rights even when his own party “compromises” against the people. Someone who knows that 2% of the poplar plus the entire MSM, doesn’t accurately represent the will of the people.

I know Rand Paul and his patriot father. And Michael Guess is no Rand Paul.
I want to give Michael Cassidy a chance to be our Rand Paul.

Anonymous said...

@7:01 - being a true Republican sure is tough these days. Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell, Bill Barr and Ivanka aren’t making the cut. You have to really bury your head and just do what Trump says, no matter how degrading that may be. Try not to get any pee in your mouth buddy, it’s raining in maga world.

Kingfish said...

To be fair, he has been a freshman congressman in a minority party. Not much to really do in that situation. You can grandstand on cable shows or engage in constant drama as Greene does but for a legislative standpoint, there is not much you can do when bipartisanship is a curse word a the capitol. However, the Republicans are going to take back the House. Nothing stopping either candidate from saying what they will or want to do when back in power. One thing Trump did that was genius was announcing who his Court appointments would be before the election.

Anonymous said...

For those believing the Guest talking points about Cassidy, well, they probably believe sand is sugar if fed to them by someone claiming to be a Republican. Guest is a RINO. He has no record of anything he has accomplished or TRIED to accomplish while being in Congress, whether in the majority or the minority. The mudslinging and negative ads are simply lies. If he had a record worth touting, he would be running on it. He isn't. That should tell you everything you need to know.

When the law is on your side, argue the law. When the facts are on your side, argue the facts. When neither are on your side, just argue...in Guest's case: lie/go negative. He has shown his true colors.

Anonymous said...

1. Guest voted to send $800 million to Ukraine.
2. Guest voted for this January 6 hearing.

That's all I need to know. Vote for Cassidy.

"It’s always sobering to see how the GOP machine happily destroys one of its candidates and anyone associated with them."

I've never understood why the GOP refuses to encourage primary challenges if the GOP truly cared about the health of this country. Why is the State GOP not helping local candidates in local races like school boards and Mayoral races? Could a decent candidate win say the Jackson Mayor race with some financial backing from the State GOP?

@825 Cassidy was in Rankin County knocking on doors Tuesday. He was at a neighborhood clubhouse in Rankin County doing a townhall Tuesday night. He answered every question posed to him, many regarding the attack ads from Guest. Speaking of Guest, he could ask Cassidy those questions himself if he had agreed to debate Cassidy. Yet, Guest refused every offer from Cassidy AND from media that wanted to host such a debate. Each time, the answer was NO.

Anonymous said...

@8:04
It's not the Royal Palace, nor is it a sacred temple. It is the peoples' house and congress is supposed to work for us. You need to get a grip and turn off CNN.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish, it is not a choice of do nothing versus grandstand on the networks. There are over 30 post in this thread and no one can point to a single thing that Guest has done, other than make some really dumb votes.

We can do better than this. If Cassidy is elected and chooses to be another empty suit and collect free healthcare for life, then we can vote him out in 2024.

Guest has proved to be a nothing burger. Let see if we can get someone in Congress who will actually work for us.

Anonymous said...

I've decided that I'm not going to vote for either of the sumbitches. As one of the first commenters already said, my mailbox has been flooded with garbage hit pieces from both Guest and Cassidy. I'll write-in somebody's name.

Anonymous said...

In the country formerly the United States of America, nobody votes any candidate for higher elected office; everyone is only voting against the other guy/party. Well, maybe some party hacks vote for their guy. I see a lot of that in the comments preceding.

There is no political, electoral way clear for the middle class. You ain’t going to vote your way out of anything; you’re not going to “take our country back if we just get the right people in there.” That route closed a long time ago.

Nevertheless I would hope one day soon to see Congress make a change, and that change would be this: Only a person who can physically cast a ballot in an election, a registered voter, would be able to contribute to a politician. No more PACs, no more money from the National Association of Widget Manufacturers, no more money from any source but John Q. Voter voting in John Q. Candidate’s district.

Anonymous said...

8:34 am -- I'm a Rand Paul fan, too. I've met with him several times. You are right. We do need someone like Rand fighting for us. But, here's where the rubber meets the road. Do you really think Rand Paul would propose Medicare for all? Cassidy did. Do you really think that Rand Paul would propose a whole series of new welfare proposals? Listen, I don't buy into the "carpetbagger" stuff. I'd vote for Rand Paul or Ted Cruz if they moved here 2 days before the election. But, this stuff that Cassidy was proposing was wholesale collectivism. The exact opposite of Rand Paul. His now scrubbed proposals (scrubbed from his website, but presumably not from his bank of ideas) were pure socialism. Supporting a socialist just for a change is a mistake in my view.

Voting for Rep. Guest said...

I voted for Cassidy in the primary, but the truth is now out there. Cassidy is a closet socialist. He had some initial appeal to me and many others because of his Naval aviator status, etc., but behind the curtains is another LBJ/AOC/Sanders.

Yes, Guest had to step up his campaign because Cassidy became a dark horse, but we don't want Cassidy. He is an east coast carpet bagger progressive.

I am voting for Guest in the run-offs, and I approved this message.

Cassidy has never voted for any of the socialist proposals the Republican establishment is trying to paint him with. It’s on the record that Guest voted for the January 6 commission, billions of dollars for Ukraine (more than just weapons), and money for Planned Parenthood. He does not deserve another term. If elected Cassidy will face voters two years from now. What we know for fact is reason to vote Guest out.

Cassidy supporter here. I am a lifelong Republican. Voted for Eisenhower and all Republicans since then.
I know Michael Cassidy and have had many sit-downs with him and discussed his ideas. Cassidy will fight for us and vote against anything that goes against our principles.
There should be a rule change in Congress to limit the number of items in a bill. When a huge bill is passed, it includes so much pork along with some needed items.

Guest is the RINO, not Cassidy. If I didn't believe Cassidy, I would not be substantially supporting him with campaign contributions. And for you non-believers, I am not expecting anything in return other than honest government.

VOTE CASSIDY AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO VOTE CASSIDY!

I had twelve color attack ads from Guest in my mailbox last week.

Seems like an incumbent should be able to rely on the actions of the prior term, and would not need to spend so much money on such flash.

Seems the campaign funds spent on those fancy fliers could have been used for things to benefit constituents if the actions of Guest's term were impressive enough. Odd.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
