Commissioner of Agriculture Andy Gipson issued the following statement.
Commissioner
of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson announced the Mississippi
Farmers
Market in Jackson will close its doors this Saturday, February 20, due
to inclement weather. The Market will resume its normal operating hours
next Saturday, February 27.
“Many
of our vendors notified us they would not be able to participate
Saturday morning due to travel conditions, and some vendors would not
have products due to managing the
demands of the weather earlier this week. That combined with the
anticipated temperature in our Covid modified layout necessitated
closing for this Saturday,” said Commissioner Gipson. “I ask that
everyone stay warm this Saturday and come out to the Market
next weekend for all the fresh produce and treats they enjoy.”
The
Mississippi Farmers Market, a division of the Mississippi Department of
Agriculture and Commerce, is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until
1:00 p.m. For additional information
about the Mississippi Farmers Market, visit www.msfarmersmarket.com, download
the Mississippi Farmers Market mobile app, or visit Mississippi Farmers Market on Facebook.

Ole Andy shut it down. Not Andy. He must be slippin' Say it ain't so.
Darn, now I will have to put my cowboy hat and Glock back in the closet.
But the rodeo was a go last night while officials were telling us to cut down our thermostat. Andy can bite me.
The rodeo continued, but now produce is not available.
Gawd.
(And I was looking forward to some Copiah County Winter squash)!
I be jonesin for some turnip greens and turkey butts, or ham hocks. Can't bring myself to buy greens in the grociferous store. Don't seem right.. Used to get them from the dude on the side of W. Fortification St. over by the zoo and airport.
Thanks for the heads up, 4:01. No one wants to be at the Farmers Market with some yay-who carrying a glock. Stay where you are, glockster boy!
Did not know there an airport and zoo near Fortification, but I only been 'round here fifty years.
9:26 - You DO remember that the Farmers' Market is on High Street and High Street is in Jackson...Right?
This announcement musta caused a run on the produce section at Kroger. I visited two today and they were wiped out.
If I have six lemons and give you a third of them, how many lemon slices can you make for your iced tea?
Bonus Question: How many lemons do a ten-gallon hat hold?
Although somewhat damaged by the ice storm, my backyard garden has turnips, collards, mustard and kale greens. I have multiple kinds of lettuce, Swiss chard, scallions, radishes, parsley, cilantro and chives growing in large containers. My sister picked her 6 remaining heads of cabbage from her garden right before the storm hit. We're fairly self-sufficient in the produce department year round. It is so easy to grow food if you have room and a willingness to do it.
Remember folks - the Doris Berry Old Time Farmer’s Market is open seven days a week. It is located in Pearl on Hwy 80 right before you get to the red light by the High school. Doris and her families were at the old Farmer’s Market for over 30 years on North West Street. Then Lester built the new one on High Street and only opened it for only two days a week. He should have gotten Doris and Brenda Langham to come to the new one and they would had been open daily!
9:09 - When Jimmy Buckmaster Ross retired, that would have a great time for the legislature to abolish the Department. Lester Spell was ahead of his time, a man of remarkable vision, or something like that, he claimed. I remember when all the employees he fired rebelled, showed up at Neshoba and protested his campaign for re-election. Boy, Damn, do we elect some goobers or what?
Fast forward to last year.
