JSU President Dr. William Bynum may not be leaving JSU after all. Clinton Police busted Dr. Bynum and JSU Art Professor Shonda McCarthy earlier this month for trying to obtain the services of a prostitute. Dr. Bynum resigned his position. However, Dr. Bynum may remain employed by the university.
The contract approved by IHL states:
1. Hire Dr. William Bynum as President of Jackson State University with a four-year contract beginning July 1, 2017 and consisting of a state base salary of $300,000 and a foundation supplement up to $75,000;
2. To include in the contract under the compensation upon return to faculty clause that in the event Dr. Bynum resigns or is terminated as President of JSU but remains employed with the institution, his salary as a full professor shall be 110% of the highest faculty salary on the Jackson Campus of Jackson State University;
Kingfish note: This might get a little interesting. Stay tuned.

If he’s allowed to stay then someone at IHL should be fired over this
IHL Strikes Back!
If the Astros are allowed to keep their World Series title, then I have no problem whatsoever with Bynum keeping his job. Peanuts in comparison.
It's JSU. Nothing surprises me there--look at the financial mess it's still in!
Attn 11:02 Can they not use some of the money in the endowment funds?
Don't be too hard on Bynum. All the fella was trying to do was get a lil' trim on the side.
Bynum has done a fantastic job at JSU and the college board will not give him up easily. In less than 3 years he has taken JSU from an enrollment of almost 10,000 to about 7,000 and falling. The IHL may not easily find another minion who so effectively carries out board policy and they know it. A little graft can be overlooked as long as the guy "keeps things under control". He will be missed.
This whole thing is just so wrong. The man was doing deep research for human sexuality and human anatomy courses.
Heck, bring back Freeze too! This is typical of the apparent "Confederacy of Dunces" that make up the IHL board.
Nothing in that clause gives any indication that he is returning to the faculty following this incident. The clause just allows him to return with a guaranteed salary, IF he were to return. Your title is click-bait.
11:02 and 11:11 JSU will always be in a financial mess. Like public education in Mississippi it will never be fully funded. At least not as a full fledged university. The programs the state promises to establish in the Ayers suit were initiated but the university won't be allocated the money to run them. The choice is to raid the available funding and be accused of gross mismanagement or to downsize to a 1960's level teacher's college. Bynum was doing his best to implement the latter. Others have found the job impossible. The search continues.
How long was Houston Nutt kept on the payroll at UMAA after being fired?
1:41, you misspelled Arkansas
Years ago a president of a university would have enough character and integrity to resign and that would be the end of it. I realize he was lacking in both of those areas by doing what he did but we live in a different world now. It says a lot about the guy if he tries to stay.
I forgot. It says more about the IHL if they allow it if they have any say over this.
@ 1:41
What does this crackerjack have in common with Houston Nutt? Just curious? I would say more along the lines of hugh freeze. In that case freeze was gone baby gone with no pay and a fully terminated contract. Don't be studio
Your title is click-bait.
And the summary for your comment would be 'hooked in the gill'.
this is how it goes when you got a 6 figure government job. in the private sector they fire you. in the public sector they just transfer you and make you someone else's problem. it no wonder that everybody wants to work for the government.
The college board is the most neanderthal piss poor appointed outfit in Mississippi government. That's quite an accomplishment. They have always
had their fangs into Jackson State but recently they made the mistake of pissing off my school, Ole Miss. Other states allow each university to have it's own board so maybe we can begin serious discussion of a common sense change.
Nah. Just kidding. Never happen in Mississippi.
6:44 - Let me slow down so you'll understand. The subject here is this discredited employee being allowed to hang around on the payroll AFTER resigning or being terminated. As a corollary, I offered up Houston Nutt, a coach up at UMAA, who was fired, but hung around, on the sidelines, and in the employ of TSUN for many months, still drawing pay.
The subject here is 'will this guy leave or stay'. Nutt hung around and drew a check.
Please don't tell me you're still confused.
Who remembers when Mississippi College president did a similar act? He resigned immediately and never came back. The man should do the same.
@7:05 The Baptist owners of MC were protecting the administration and image of that institution, they were embarrassed. The IHL has no such concern for Jackson State. Just the opposite.
If he had left the motel lickity-split, he could have gotten away. It must have been a hairy experience. He should have realized that something was fishy.
