Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Whooter granted an appeal bond to Deangelo Morment. A jury convicted Morment of aggravated assault after he shot a man and woman at a gas station on North State Street in 2013.
JJ reported August 2, 2018:
Deangelo Morment, of Jackson, was sentenced Wednesday by Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Jeff Weill on two counts of aggravated assault following a July 17 conviction by a Hinds County trial jury. Judge Weill sentenced Morment to 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with five years suspended and 15 years to serve on each count. The sentences will run consecutively for a total of 30 years to serve. Morment was placed on five years of probation upon his release.
On July 13, 2013, Morment and two other men ambushed Conner at the Gas Stop gas station in apparent retaliation, shot him, and fled the scene. Surveillance video showed Conner being shot multiple times and Keys being caught in the cross fire. Both victims survived.
Morment's attorney, Jane Tucker, filed a motion for bond on November 19. Judge Whooten set bond at $150,000 and placed Morment under house arrest. He is allowed to leave his home between 6 AM and 10 PM for work, church, court, doctor's office, and lawyer's office. A construction job was apparently waiting for him upon release.
Kingfish note: This thug was convicted of shooting two people. There is no reason whatsoever he should be on the street pending appeal. Period. The next time Chokwe and Rukia mouth off about crime, perhaps someone should ask what they think about examples of judicial irresponsibility such as this one.

'...allowed to leave his house for...church...' MY ASS!
No doubt Judge Wooten took into consideration that there was no evidence against Morment other than a detective testifying that a video showed that one of the shooters was wearing a bandage and that Morment had had a bandage on the same arm. The victims could not even identify him. The trial took place under Weill.
Let's remember in the 50's and 60's folks got bond for more serious crimes.
Mississippi sports books should allow wagering on offenses committed while these shitheads are out on bond...that would be a huge money maker! You know its going to happen, might as well make money on it!
@5:20 PM - Thanks Mr. Sweet.
THAT RACIST!!!!!
Move right along... nothing to see here... another post by kingfish whining about crime, judges and now appeal bonds.... Unless you have all the facts it is impossible to discuss the merits of a case or conviction. Weil was one of the worst judges ever. Zero impartiality.. Even made the state try cases that they admitted on record they couldn’t prove. Fair Judge?
The apologists always come out on these stories. They'll still be coming out after Jackson has lost another 25,000 people.
Mormont ?
Is Khaleesi aware of this ?
Oh this jackson, not Astapor .
