Health Department Monitoring Coronavirus

The Mississippi State Department of Health issued the following statement.
The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and partners within the state health system to ensure Mississippi is prepared if we do get a case in the state.

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, in late December. The virus has quickly spread in China with several thousand cases, and additional cases have now been confirmed in a growing number of other international locations, including the United States.

In the U.S., there have been a total of six cases of the virus reported with more than 100 under investigation as possible cases. The risk of transmission of this virus in the U.S. is low. So far, Mississippi has no persons under investigation or confirmed cases.

“This is a rapidly evolving situation, but it’s important to note that the immediate risk to the Mississippi public is low at this time. We need to be prudent and monitor the situation, work with the CDC, and continue working with our healthcare systems throughout the state,’’ said State Health Officer Thomas Dobbs, MD. “There should be more concern in preventing the spread of seasonal flu than this coronavirus right now. We are in peak season and the flu is highly infectious.”

Those who could be at risk are those who have recently traveled to China, especially the Wuhan City area, in the past two to 14 days or those who have had close contact with someone who is a confirmed case or a case under investigation.

Symptoms of coronavirus mostly include flu-like illness such as fever, cough, and congestion.

Currently, the CDC recommends that travelers avoid nonessential travel to China.

Kingfish note: The department also held a press conference this morning.

You know what pairs well with the Coronavirus? Lyme Disease!

Did anyone ask how many die yearly from Influenza? According to the CDC it is close to 500,000.

Why is the media hyping this comparatively minor outbreak? And why are these media induced epidemic panics an almost yearly occurrence?

What exactly are they conditioning the global population to accept?

Wake up sheeple.

Don't rely on your Federal, State, govt, friends, wife, kids. Go out this very instant & stock up on N95 surgical facemasks, hand sanitizer & food. The minute this becomes serious all this stuff will disappear! Can't find it at the drug store, Walmart than buy thru Amazon with 2 day shipping!
You have been warned!

When you say you are doing something, but really you are saying that you are doing nothing (i.e. "monitoring" which means standing around watching).

N95 respirators (no such thing as an n95 mask because masks don't seal) don't work on children or facial hair.

If you don't already have a 6 month supply of food and you aren't rich, you are too late. But you can get flour, oil, salt, sugar, beans, rice, and potatoes in bulk cheaper than MREs and canned goods.

Yes, Influenza claims more lives annually than the Coronavirus. The concern now shown is over how easily transmittable or commutable this new virus is. If it achieves the same density of infection that the regular flu has now, the fear is that it will be far more deadly.

So to answer your question, you are comparing apples to oranges.

This new virus has a higher kill rate than the flu. And the numbers coming out of China are underreported. China doesn’t count a case unless it’s been verified by a test. A test doesn’t happen unless the local community board refers a sick patient to the hospital to get tested. There is no showing up at the hospital when you are sick. The government has to allow you to get tested. No test...no case....no death reported. The numbers they are releasing have steadily held at 2.5% mortality. In a city the size of Jackson (let’s say there are still 100,000 folks left), all of Fondren and Woodland Hills would die. But chances are the mortality rate is much higher than what is being reported which would explain China’s lockdown of major cities. This virus is highly communicable, with a long (contagious) incubation period and high(er) mortality rate.

So yes, there is good reason to be concerned. This isn’t the average flu. Why we are still allowing passports with China’s stamp on them into our country boggles the mind.

MERS and SARS had mortality rates of up to 15 and 35%. Not 2.5%.

Your hysterical trolling and lies are not useful.

Name the last SARS death in Mississippi? NONE.

Name the last SARS death in the US this year? NONE.

Name the last SARS death in the last year? NONE.

Name the last one the year before? NONE.

The year before that? NONE.

The year before that? NONE......

And the vast majority of the fatalities with this new virus, as in almost all infectious disease, are the old and sick.

This is NOT Ebola, or avian influenza, or even measles. This is NOT seen as more deadly or more transmissible. If it were more deadly, that might make it burn out sooner.

Stop the Reddit fear mongering and lies.

Stop the BULL.

Well said 2:24. You obviously are not employed by a media outlet.

Reddit, the most unique hivemind on the planet. My group think is better than your echo chamber because I we have upvotes. I bet the pot belly pajama boys are quaking in their beards.

Education about corona virus is part of their (CDC’s) strategy. The media hype doesn’t make that fact based education any easier.

“The Sheeple” don’t want another China happening here. So, get over it. I do find it interesting how this coincides with the impeachment process and coverage thereof.

Who said MERS and SARS had a mortality rate of 2.5%? Nobody. Who said we had an outbreak of either in the past few years? Nobody. But if you’re the nincompoop comparing Coronavirus with seasonal flu, that 2.5% mortality rate was meant to catch your attention. What China isn’t reporting is that this new virus kills more like SARS but has the added bonus of a long and contagious incubation period. SARS infected and presented quickly. Coronavirus infects quickly and easily and then waits to present. I’m not hysterical or over here telling you in all caps to go buy every bottled water and canned soup you can find. What I am saying is that what we are being told and what the reality is are two different things, which should shock no one. If you read the firsthand reports of those at ground zero you get a better grip on what’s in store for us if our government does a shitty job of containing this.

I’m off to enjoy good bourbon and a nice fire. Have a nice weekend.

4:22 Thank you for your insight. Your talent certainly lies more in bourbon tasting than epidemiology.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Protective face masks have been sold out for days in this northwest Chicago suburb, where two patients were being treated for coronavirus.
Health officials on Thursday announced the first U.S. case of person-to-person spread of coronavirus and the second case in Illinois – the husband of a Chicago woman who developed symptoms after visiting China.

Will representatives of the Health Department be attending a conference at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland?

Follow-up consultations in Paris?

Oh wait, they aren't connected with the airport commission, so Geneva it is.

I have a case of 100 N95 respirators from Lowes. When the storm hits I will be selling them for $100/each.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
