Former Sheriff's Son Arrested in Stabbing

The son of former Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington stabbed a woman and proceeded to cut his own throat on December 30.   Rankin County deputies arrested Clint Pennington for aggravated domestic violence. He is currently being held without bond.

JJ obtained the police report through a public records request.  The police report states Deputies arrived at Pennington's home on Charlie White Road in Pelahatchie.  The report states Pennington was bleeding "profusely from his neck area".  He cut his throat from ear to ear.  He also had two stomach wounds.  The deputy reported there was a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Pennington."

Medical personnel stabilized Pennington and transferred him to UMC.  A warrant was soon issued for his arrest.  He was taken into custody upon release from UMC and was denied bond.   Pennington's mug shot shows a large bandage across his neck.

The deputy reported the woman lay on the floor with a "large cut" across her back.  She is recovering from her injuries. JJ is not identifying the victim.

So who gets stuck with his medical costs, including apparently a helicopter ride?

I’m sure he required many pints of donated blood to save his sorry butt too.

I hope “she” is ok after dealing with this violent situation. If she was stabbed in the back I am assuming that she was trying to get away from him. WTH do you do with this guy now??

Daddy can’t fix this. But then again we is in miss’sippi

@10:43
Rankin County supervisors need to open their ears!

I'm not a lawyer but I drove past a Holiday Inn Express. It would depend when he was placed under arrest. If he was not arrested until after being released from UMC and Kingfish says above he was taken into custody upon release, then the medical bills are his responsibility. If he doesn't have insurance then UMC has to eat the costs.

If only we could get people to have health insurance....

It’s about time. He has had several DUI’s covered up.

He's a fireman in Flowood. Most likely his health insurance will pay. I heave a feeling that's about to be terminated though.

Anxious to see what happens next, this has been strangely quiet in the Rankin news. Thanks Kingfish for breaking it.

I hope folks dont loose sight of the victim in this mess, with who the perpetrator knows and is related too.

No surprise, this state is at the top of the list when it comes to Domestic Violence against women, also no surprise this has been kept hush by the good'ol boy system that permeates the state.

Rankin County is lost.

He is a fireman or should I say was one

Why hasn't this been on the news

White THUG LIFE in the Rankin.

Its over there...someone please turn out the lights when you leave the trailer park.

How do THESE people live like this?

Wow...just wow....all these crazy white people.

Yes a lot of things get brushed under the rug

It’s really a problem of culture. Until you change the wife beating culture that is so prevalent in that group, no amount of laws or education will fix anything. You have to wonder why the leaders of Rankin don’t speak out against this destructive culture.

Seriously not posting comments. I’m totally disgusted with this blog now. I guess you are paid for just like everyone else who protects Bryan Bailey. Absolutely disgusting.

1. The post is about the crime and the victim, not all the dirty laundry of the Rankin SO.

2. I contacted the Sheriff when I received a tip to let him know I was filing a public records request for the incident report. He was completely cooperative. When it comes to public records requests, the Sheriff has probably been the most cooperative out of all law enforcement officials in the Jackson metro area or state government. Bar none.

3. This is a domestic violence case. JJ is going to treat it just as it does the rest of them. This website will track the case and keep readers informed of what takes place. It will be treated just as Sheldon Alston, Jr. and Bryan Clark. Period.

4. JJ is not going to identify the victim. Yes, many people, including me, know her identity, where she works, and all that jazz. It's not going up.

5. Some readers have tried to cast aspersions on the victim. Yes, it was the victim who slashed her back and sliced his throat. Not.

6. Some readers are mad because I won't let them post THE TRUTH. Yeah I know. You're a good person. You're just giving us the real scoop. Sorry, this post is about an attack on a woman in Rankin County. I'm not defending libel lawsuits because of some anonymous reader's need to show what he knows to the whole world. Some claims might be true but they either have nothing to do with this post or are not verified.

7. The Sheriff has never given a dime, bought an ad, nor provided any form of compensation to this correspondent or this website. Period. Nor have any of his representatives.

Nice cope Kingfish. Karma is a bitch. You every think Clint is the way he is because he knows what has been going on at that jail and in that sheriff office? It would drive anyone to drink. Literal organ harvesting for God's sake.

@9:22 wow number 5. People always victim blaming. Anyone reading the police report can "assume" she was running away to be cut on the back. wow. He needs to be sent to prison for a long time. Domestic violence needs to end. This case will bring awareness about harming your spouse. No excuse.

Thank you for keeping your blog professional. This is a terrible act and yes the perpetrator needs to pay consequences for his actions and also needs to get some mental help obviously. Instead of trying to air out people's dirty laundry, we should be glad the victim is recovering. Some people can't enjoy life because they are so focused on what other people are doing in their lives. Bryan Bailey and the RSO are great and who cares what they do in their personal lives as long as they continue to do their job-- protect and serve!

I see several comments checking on the victim, but thanks BB

As a member of a law enforcement agency, it does matter what you do in your personal life. Everything you do reflects upon your agency, so yes it does matter. A law enforcement officer’s personal behavior can be brought up during courtroom testimony to call that person’s integrity into question. Law enforcement officers are always judged on both their personal and professional actions. So if you think that because you think the are doing a good job, they can do anything they want in their personal lives, you may be part of the problem.

Wow!!! Hope this guy gets what should be coming to him

Tragic. Know the victim and the suspect. Was shocked of the news.

The article is wrong on one point. He was released as quickly as he was booked in with no bond required. Judge McDaniel has been releasing most everybody that way. He is not requiring a bond for most felony charges. He is full in on the new bail reform same as Hinds county judges. I guess no one has learned the lesson from what as happened in Jackson since JPD and the county started turning criminals loose as fast as they are arrested with no bond required.

Anyone have an update .??

He is out and about. Never stayed a night in jail from what I was told.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
