It's the Twitter, stupid. WLBT reported:
House Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden was arrested and charged with DUI refusal Thursday afternoon after he rear-ended a car on Highway 39 North in Meridian.
Police responding to the wreck found enough evidence to take Snowden in to the police department.
Once Snowden was at the station, he refused to take a breath test. He was booked around 3:00 p.m.
He has since been released. Officials did not release his bond amount. Rest of the article.

At least he didn't blame the cough medicine!
Lock him up
It was cough syrup!
Dear Lawyer Snowden, please don't think the readers are stupid enough to believe you refused to take a breath test because you had one beer 2 hours earlier. Sorry you failed the field sobriety test due to bad knees. Next time, keep some over the counter cough syrup in the car. Why did you not ask those numerous other lawyers about the field sobriety tests? Oh, I believe you will get out of this, but it may require numerous state judge receiving substantial raises.
Bet DPS will not pull his DL.
He seems to walk fine when I see him. This is will be just another example of "One law for thee; another law for me."
snowden did the right thing by refusing to be breath tested on equipment owned by the government, and by personnel who work for the government. i find it very ironic that JJ commentators constantly post comments critical of everything the government does, except when a situation like this arises. after something like this government seems to become infallible to the readers of JJ. someone please explain that one.
The silly part is...had he blown and failed the test....he could get this first dui charge “non adjudicated” in about 4 months for about $5000.
It’s a relatively new law. DUI erased from record of it’s the first and if you blow!
Watch for his lawyer to move to waive the refusal part and plead guilty to dui first.
Wonder what ole Tommy Robertson is doing these days?
Attn. 9:57 Is that you Greg????
Sounds like he enjoyed a 6 martini lunch in order for him to be busted and booked by 3:00 pm. I've always heard that alcoholics start drinking early in the day. I hope the other driver is okay.
Just another victim of the Clintons. :)
And 9:59, I hope you're not a lawyer who represents people on DUIs. Nonadjudication available even if you refuse (the judge can say no for that reason, or any other reason, but it does not disqualify you).
Lock and load. Hopefully the corrupt republican judges won’t let this thug piece of shit off the hook like all the past cases when these thugs break the law.

When remarks like yours are made, it always reminds me of Dan Aykroyd's reply to Jane Curtain, "Jane, you ignorant slut"
It's one thing to criticize what the government does, but to compare that to a machine is a stretch. Do you trust traffic lights, stop signs, or U.S. currency?
All products of the government.
Now, man up and take the test.
This will be seen as a horrible betrayal by the Speaker of the House. The Speaker's mother, father and sister were killed by a drunk driver in 1988 at about 2pm on a Sunday. He read ended the family at a high rate of speed and their car flipped over and blew up.
Toodleedo Neighbors. This is Representative Ned Flanders Snowden. Just want to explain that darn little incident yesterday. First of all, that dang new fangeled twiiter thingy just had my interest while I was driving home. For some reason, that little ladies testimony really grabbed my dog gone attention. After attending a function for a pet shelter at Hal and Mals in Jackson, I was going to stop by the homeless shelter on the way to the house, and dang it, i just wasn’t paying attention like I should have been. Just trying to stay on top of all that goes on. Next thing I know neighbor, I’ve bumped in to a fine fellow. Some call this distracted driving, haha, but I was just multi tasking trying to serve my doggone constituents the best way I toodleedo know how. The fine officer, who I didnt have the pleasure of being friends with, dog gone it, ask me to step out and walk a straight line to see if I had been injured by that fine fellow that stopped in front of me for no apparent reason in the middle of the road. I told the fine officer, I had injured my knees years ago playing intermural football for my fraternity, Dang it, sometimes my knees just stiffing up at the most inopportune times. I was having a hard time trying to stand on one leg, touching my nose and saying my ABCs backwards. I mean, lol neighbor, who can actually do that, especially with bad knees. Anyway, the fine police officer, who I plan to get to know, ask me to come down to the station house. Well neighbor, they wanted me to blow into one of those dang breathalyzers, to see if I had been drinking, of all things. I agent that. I refused for religious purposes. Thou shalt not blow into false idol instruments. With that done neighbor, the fine officer, who now knows my toodleedo profession, allowed me to leave, after contributing to the dad gum city coffers. I will keep all you good neighbors informed on the events going forward with this dang little inconvenience
. But my advice neighbor, is to be careful with that dang twitter thingy when driving around dad blame roads with people stopping in front of you for no dang apparent reason. Any way, one of my scootledoo lawyer friends has told me that this dang little inconvenience will be taking care of in time, after most of you have moved on to something else. You won’t even remember this. Toodleedo neighbors and I remain your neighbor and friend, Rep. Ned Flanders Snowden.

The judge that let the cough syrup fiend go should be disbarred.
Great message to the children....if you wreck say you were on Twitter and you only had one beer.
What's the odds that any of us normal people could use such excuses and walk? Where is our state party leadership?
I hope and pray that Speaker Gunn will wait and see what the outcome of this incident. I know Greg and he does has issues with both knees and his hip. I'm the same age as Greg and know his both in his personal life, as well as him being Pro Tempro of the House. If I ride 1 1/2 - 2 hours going home, I would have a hard time getting of my car and walking a straight line.
Hey, Greg, ROLL TIDE !!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
1:12 - who said that he 'walked' any differently than us 'normal people'? Many normal people I know have left the pokey with a charge and a court date. In fact, more have left (under the care of someone else that drove them away) without being held overnight than stayed as a guest of the popo. Generally seemed to depend on the demeanor of the guest - and knowing Snowden, I am sure that he was as nice and gentlemanly as he always is and has been all his adult life.
Has nothing to do with his excuses. Now, if he had walked away from the scene without being charged, your speculation and dissing would have some credibility. But it appears to me that the fine men in blue of Meridian (who by the way have no ties to the Republican party leadership you seem to invoke) cut him no slack.
Go find something real to bitch about.
I have always heard playing the trumpet in the high school band was bad for ones knees.
@2:12. Dang. I didn't know there was a connection. I played trumpet in the high school band. And I've gotten older over the 50 year since that time. And now, I have bad knees - really bad knees. Even worse when sitting for a long time.
I'm so glad you made the connection that its all because of my trumpet playing; I had attributed it to getting older.
I listened to a trumpet once. Could've been me.
1:59....I said "excuses" plural, meant to include Senator Burton's get out of jail free card (for a second offense no less!) for his DUI charge and the soon to come slap on the write of Snowden. Cops clearly did their job as they also did with Burton....but I don't trust the good ole boy system to treat Snowden like they would one of us peasants.
to 10:09 ....no that is not greg snowden . come on man , answer the question posed by 9:57. show us just how brilliant you are.
Second hand trumpet listening is just as dangerous to the knees.
He was Right to refuse to take the "test" - I know from experience It's a double-loose !
If you refuse don’t the police usually get a warrant for a blood sample? Wonder if they did in this case.
Is a coronet also dangerous to the knees? Asking for a neighbor.
If he wasn't drinking why not take the test??????
908, no they don't normally.
9:08 Think that's when there's an accident involving a fatality.
Hell his mug shot's not on WTOK
Nobody should agree to a field sobriety test. Period. Ever. If you drink and drive, ask your lawyer about DUI refusal and which is your best option on the blow test at the station.
I do know people like Vic Carmody don't do shit other than take your ten thousand bucks. You're lucky if you even meet the guy (your lawyer) before two days before your trial, five months down the road. And then it's only so he'll recognize you in the courtroom.
@ 10:05 didn't Tommy choke on a whiskey bottle cap.
