Wow, publishing the same message on the same day? Nah, this wasn't coordinated.
First Frank Corder publishes a plea for unity column on Y'all Politics this morning:
The friendly fire isn't advancing the dialogue they want. Sniping is only providing fodder for liberals and weakening the base, turning off more would be GOP voters than it is winning. .... (Last time I checked it was Mr. Corder using the phrase "snake oil salesmen")
What Tea Party Republicans want to see, in actuality, is backbone, a stand against liberalism in a damn the torpedoes type of approach. The trouble with such a strategy is that politics is based on relationships, and unless you control every level of government an appropriate, productive, winning strategy has to include principled stands coupled with statesman-like compromise, building coalitions among colleagues to pass legislation that moves you closer to your desired goal, not that thickens the walls already erected between members.
This is not to say that constituents should not hold their Republican elected officials accountable for their votes; not at all. However, there is an appropriate manner in which to engage in such discourse that listens to reasoning without immediate vilification. Officials should readily expect to justify their actions and motivations to their constituents, but the tone of the exchange should be one seeking mutual understanding given our shared ideology, not one so singularly focused that no common ground can be found. After all, we are on the same team.
Mississippi Republicans would do well to heed the lessons from across the aisle lest a similar fate befall them. Making the squabble about ideology, questioning how conservative is conservative enough, could have longterm consequences for Republicans if instead they do not focus on the practical application of governing and how to raise the level of discussion minus the sniping and zingers. Inter-party fighting turns off voters; if you don't believe me, ask Mississippi Democrats.
Column
Then Mississippi GOP Chairman Joe Nosef took time out from fund-raising to send out this blast email a couple of hours later:
Having robust disagreements on policy, politics, and even candidates is unavoidable at a time when we have more Republicans in office than ever before. It is critical, however, that we make sure our energy and resources are focused on defeating our liberal Democrat opponents, rather than on attacking each other. If not, we risk helping our opponents and hurting our cause. Winning elections is how we are able to ensure our priorities and policies actually have a chance to get implemented...
Just a coincidence. Just purely a coincidence. Of course, not a word out of these peeps about Karl Rove declaring war on conservatives.

Said it before, will say it again. If the so-called Repubs keep giving us McCain and those like him, I'll skip that box on my ballot.
I will NOT vote for RINOs. Voting for them is the exact same thing as voting democrat.
If the Repubs loose an election, its because they offer democrats with an R behind their name. You boys are the ones who have a decision to make. Mine is already made.
In the final analysis, there are two times more people who won't vote for a Republican if he is a wing-nut that doesn't speak to their issues and doesn't present a reasonable mode of governing the country. If the Tea Party has their way the Republican party will be a much smaller and less powerful entity.
It's all about transparency.
I like the Tea parties ideals, but I doubt any of the candidates are serious. I'd like to hear McDaniel explain - in detail - exactly what "pork" Cochran has produced for Mississippi that he would not have approved of, and what he intends to stop going forward.
When you stir the pot with influence and contributions from Pacs, Corporations, Lobbyist, Political Parties and the Electoral College, who really controls the elections?
I look for a conservative. When both the dems and repubs are exactly the same, then I'll look elsewhere. Right now, there are two parties: the conservatives vs Dems/Rep rinos.
And 11:45, I have a real job and I'm not yawning. I'm pissed.
It is not a question of what "pork" Cochran has done, its a question of what he hasn't done or said. Anyone can run with the herd without notice. Despite what establishment propaganda says I want someone who is willing to try to turn the herd away from the upcoming cliff.
3:46 I am so laughing at your naïve stupid shit self.
"I want someone who is willing to try to turn the herd away from the upcoming cliff."
LMFAO at you. Chris McDaniels....what a leader!
@11:53 If voting for McCain in a primary is your measure on whether or not someone is a true Republican, consider that McCain carried the 2008 GOP Primary vote in Mississippi with 79% of the vote. Sure, the national race was over, but others were on the ballot. I'm sure you voted for someone else, but if the mainstream makes up nearly 80% of the vote, perhaps they are actually the true Republicans and you are the one out of touch with that party.
4:07 is just another libtard that thinks anybody, anywhere, gives a rat's ass what he says or thinks.
Whether 3:46 failed to show support for McDaniels by accident or on purpose. I think the message was that Cochran is not being a leader.
I lean Democrat and I like McDaniel. I was against the bail-outs, against the stupid stimulus, against Obamacare, against the Iraq war, am against many Federal guv departments such as Education and the EPA, they should be abolished, am for a modest increase in the minimum wage, eliminating tax breaks and for income tax reform, etc. I will vote for McDaniel, I agree with him on 80% of the issues. Mainstream establishment Republicans are mostly corporate socialists and big government big spending fans.
... corporate socialists and big government big spending fans.
Check his voting record. You've defined Gregg Harper precisely.
I've about had it with both parties too. McDaniel looks like the only one with the cojones to stand up to the status quo and their lobbyists. Maybe some of the senators who endorsed him will make decent candidates in the future.
You know what McDaniel SAYS he can do! How do you KNOW what he can do?
Truth be told, I wish Phil Fisher had at least one term as Mayor under his belt. Would be a good Senator.
I'm about done with both parties also. Is McDaniel actually an alternative based on his record? What has McDaniel done to stand up to the status quo and the lobbyists? What is there in his voting record that supports this?
This is a legitimate question I have, because most of the debate about this race so far has been rhetoric, and I would like to know about the actual voting record of this candidate and whether it supports the idea he is not another "go along to get along" politician. No point in voting to replace one Thad with another Thad, so to speak. I'd rather just stay home and not vote.
So what is there in this guy's voting record that has some people convinced he is different?
I have no doubt supporters on both sides make sure you are exposed to the flaws in each candidate.
How about Eminent Domain. That was standing up to Haley, at a time when most others stood down.
So, sitting on a Board of Supervisors and occasionally sparring with Stokes qualifies one for a national Senate seat. And a full mayoral term would be icing on the cake. Kingfish sets a mighty low bar.
Wow. I guess he did nothing else in his life, homer.
I decided in 1983 that both parties had become vehicles for professional politicians to line their own pockets. Both put winning an election ahead of the good of the Nation. And, both had decided misinformation and fear tactics worked trumped a plan and was lots easier.
There were a few good men in both parties, but they weren't supported well by their parties because they weren't puppets. They were negated.
I had hopes for the Tea Party.
Instead of being a party of ideas and vision, it's a party of bitches not a party of proposed solutions.
Instead of putting forth candidates who have some idea of how government ideally works and who have some knowledge of economics, it's anti-government and draconian voodoo economics.
The Tea Party is the party of the uneducated , ill-informed and insane.
This isn't Reagan's base as the Rove article suggests. Ronald Reagan was a gentleman with a sense of humor who could work with others to accomplish goals.
There is no understanding in the Tea Party of what is or isn't conservative. Being against all government and all taxes isn't conservative. Conservatism is nothing if not practical and pragmatic and it is about individual freedom not about imposing individual values on others.
Read Buckley not Beck, for God's sake! Read Milton Friedman not a communist educated novelist who touted greed and whose " theories" gave us the Wall Street/banking fiasco!
Yes, the Tea Party can still win in gerrymandered districts and by being against professional politicians who have indeed lined their pockets. There's no better way to go from poor to rich faster than elected office and Wall Street.
But, the best the Tea Party can achieve in the long run is another Civil War. Good grief, some don't know Texas lost their right to secede and haven't studied the less fanciful parts of history enough to know confederate states exercising their " state's rights" hurt the effectiveness of the Confederacy! The economics and the inability to for the Confederate government to pull together sufficient co-ordinated support for and in the military were factors in the defeat.
Crazy is to keep trying to do what clearly doesn't work!
I lean Democrat, and I love the leadership skills of Phil Fisher. I would support him for whatever office he ran for here in Mississippi. He seems completely honest and by Mississippi standards, way more smart than a rocket scientist!!!
just an observation. There's no easier way to 'see' a good old boy repub who wants you to shut up and get behind them than when they rail on about the tea party. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Its everywhere--the ones who despise the tea party are the very ones who are screaming that old incumbents who do what the party tells them to instead of what their constiuents are demanding should stay in office. They're also really big on screaming that anyone who disagrees with them is, well, every insult you can possibly throw.
@4:56 PM, I believe McCain was used as the example. You do know there were many who had to wipe the puke out of their mouth when they pulled the lever for him. But you keep on with that idea--the people will vote for the lesser of two evils. Problem is, the old school repubs had gotten so far off base they are totally indistinguishable from the democrats.
Phil Fisher has more experience to serve than President Liar-of-the-Year.
Phil Fisher has more experience to serve than President Liar-of-the-Year.
With no disrespect to Phil....but everyone on the planet has more experience to serve than President Empty Suit.
Let me see, served several terms as alderman, 6 years as supervisor, Mayor, oh yes, then there is General, that is military for some of the more obtuse readers out there, and was a business executive. Much better resume than alot of the empty suits who run for statewide or congressional. And y'all say he is not qualified? Please.
Please STOP bashing Obama. no matter what the topic is, somebody has to get there digs into him. OK, Obama lied, just like Bush lied, just like Clinton lied, just like Bush lied, just like Reagan lied....
Give all their due, not just 'bama!
2:44 climb back into your black hole. Of the people you mentioned, only Clinton was brought up for an impeachable offense. Obama has several breaches, and I hope before his term his over, he will receive his due.
Lying is not an impeachable offense unless , like with Clinton, it's done under oath.
With Iran-Contra, Reagan just had memory loss that turned out was real.
So, 4:15 pm, you'd rather have Joe Biden as President? ROFLMAO!
That's what's wrong with the Obama zealots, they are so filled with hate they can't see the consequences of their dream impeachment coming true!
And, who might Biden app't for VP? Ain't going to be Rick Perry , dummies!
It is a shame that these gentlemen have to give instructions to other party members on how civilized, intelligent humans are supposed to behave.
Ronald Reagan knew how to be critical without being an ill-mannered asshole!
RR would NEVER get elected today. Not with the bodacious collection of conservative, my way or the highway, mental midgets we are enduring.
Palazzo did something right. 16 House Repubs signed letter about problems with amnesty bill.
We write to you today on behalf of the 21 million Americans who can’t find a full time job,” the GOP members of the House wrote to President Obama Wednesday.
We write to you on behalf of the 6 million young Americans who are neither working nor in school. We write on behalf of the countless American workers whose wages today are lower than they were more than a decade ago. We write on behalf of the 90 million Americans over 16 – including early retirees, college grads living at home, and those living on welfare – who are not part of our nation’s workforce.
Interesting article on this at breitbart.
