Heard about this yesterday. Again, they cut the glass to get into the house without the alarm going off. It's in Hinds County, so nothing will be done about this. Even if the police catch them, the judiciary will let them go. It's a vicious cycle that liberals (judges) do not have the courage to stop...and the criminals know it. I thought Obama was supposed to bring everybody together...yet the division grows.

This is the Country Club of Jackson right? How did they get passed the fearless whackenhut guard at the gate?

"It was a nightmare come true." That's how a homeowner describes the frightening ordeal when two armed men broke into his Northeast Jackson home overnight while he and his wife were asleep. "They were standing over my wife and I with pistols in their hands."

The break-in happened around 2:30 in the morning near the golf course at the Jackson county club on St. Andrews Drive.

The victim, who didn't want to be identified, tells us the men, who were wearing white bandanas over their faces, forced he and his wife out of bed. "...and made us give them money, jewelry, whatever we had. shotguns, ipads and televisions."

As they ransacked the house looking for more valuables, the man says the robbers fired three shots."

"Did you think you were going to die? I wouldn't go that far. But the thought crossed my mind certainly."

Before they left, investigators say the robbers stole the couple's 2008 Infiniti SUV, with an Ole Miss license plate 908 R1.

Wednesday morning police detectives were seen leaving the home in the semi-gated neighborhood.

Meantime, this ordeal has left deep emotional scars. The victim says his wife no longer wants to sleep in the house they've called home for years.

The 400 block of St. Andrews drive is Jackson Country Club.

It is suspected that they came in on foot from the back, very near the house that was entered - which explains why they weren't seen by security at the front gate. No random job here. Definitely not amateurs.

Get several dogs. These thugs will just kill a lone dog.

I actually have to spell this out for you.

OBVIOUSLY several of these robberies have taken place AFTER the perps evaded the home alarm systems by various means. People have been surprised in their sleep. Can't defend yourself if you are asleep. A dog hears something it barks. It barks, it wakes you up. You wake up, you have a better chance to defend yourself.

OBVIOUSLY if you are not there, the dog is at risk but I am talking about robberies where the homeowner is home when it takes place.

There is a gate to get out. There is a "guard gate" at the opening. Across from CCJ is not gated.

This sounds like the same thugs who robbed the couple down Old Canton (the ones who put a sign in their yard about it). They put the child in the bathroom though and robbed the house.

At least no one was hurt or killed. Stuff can be replaced.

Doesn't take a special talent to get OUT of a gated community. Just drive up to the gate and stop. The gate opens. You drive out.

The only possible solution to this is for ex Navy Seals to live in pairs and sleep in shifts. This is a solution even Tom Head could love.

I know the family and while the house had an alarm system, it was not armed. Not to excuse what happened, but you cannot live in Jackson without an alarm system (that you actually arm and use).

It did happen in the CCJ on the backside in the patio homes. The CCJ is going to have to get gates, and security cams, and real guards at the entrance.

And the family is more than shaken. They are long time Jackson residents.

All of these problems will go away if we pull up our britches and dump more money into the zoo and the downtown money pit. We're just not borrowing enough, spending enough and taxing enough.

I heard that they were having there windows replaced and that the window they pulled out was the only one that had not been set. My sources aren't reliable... but makes since. Inside job characteristics.

Windows are not typically set individually to alarm. Rooms yes, areas, yes, each window....no.

The back exit of CCJ ( not JCC) is free exit and exit only. The guard is at the south entrance.

Glad no one was injured. We need to remember a young man lost his live earlier this month in a home invasion in Hattiesburg. Please remember all the families in your prayers. It's a shame some people have such little respect for home and live.

@12:46 - I am totally confused about you saying that windows are typically set to alarm. Why? All of the houses I have ever had contacts on each window. And those houses were NO where close to the real estate in CCJ. That is the easiest place to get in without being seen. Not trying to start an argument just honestly curious.

I don't see the trail on the map, but I see paved roads that lead back into the "hood" apartments of Ridgeland.

While a gate and guard is helpful as it slows entrance and exit, unless the entire perimeter of a neighborhood is secure, security can be breached.

And, it is short sighted for those who live other than in Jackson to assume they have eliminated risk or that only black people are dangerous.

I would remind everyone of the horrendous home invasion by three white men in Connecticut.

Securing our homes these days is important and I appreciate that you pointed out a vulnerability that is often overlooked. Also, this should be a reminder to everyone not to be complacent.

We should be having a serious discussion about crime prevention measures that have worked elsewhere such as stop and frisk as in NYC or cameras as in Britain.

We live in a time of difficult choices. Knee jerk reactions aren't working.

Crime is all around us, not just Jackson. Audible alarms, (windows and doors), motion detector lights, dogs...then a gun. If you can keep them out you are way ahead. Thank goodness they weren't injured.

Regarding the actual topic: they got in the only window that had not been finished. Please tell me how they chose that house and that particular window by accident. It sounds like an inside job. When contractors have access to gate codes or get to know the access routes, nothing is protected anymore. Those thugs knew exactly what they were doing and knew exactly what window to go in.

Jackson could be so much more than what it is turning out to be. I never felt safe living in NE Jxn. I am not from Jackson- I lived in Madison. So jackson was never home to me. But the majority of the people who love living there and refuse to move is because that is their home! Of course they want to support it and fight for it. If everyone did move out of jackson then we would become overpopulated in Madison County and jackson would turn into the third ward.
No one is safe from crime- we just have a better police force and mayors who actually care about the reputation of their cities. Jackson is lacking in both.

I feel terrible for the couple- who are also parents and grandparents. No one deserves to go through that.

So what can be done about crime? How can people take back their city? Invest in alarms and actually activate them. Get dogs- especially a yappy dog that barks when the wind blows. I absolutely believe in being armed, but that would not have helped them in this situation. So what else? And what about the ones who don't live in CCJ or Eastover or any of the other well established Jackson neighborhoods? What about the ones who work their butts off and cut corners to allow their children to go to a private school? What if they can't afford to move? It's not always as simple as getting up and moving. Some people are not as fortunate as others and that's just life. But they deserve to be protected as well. People need to take back their community and start fighting back. I just have no idea how it is going to happen.

Anyone who still lives in Jackson has waited way, way too long. Real estate values are only going to go further down. Cut your losses now. Should have cut them years ago.

Have been a RE agent here for 19 years. To say that "housing values in NEJ higher than ever" based on a handful of highly customized homes in Eastover is a sweeping generalization. Aggregating NEJackson housing stock information to include Eastover or Fondren, for example, only produces highly skewed conclusions.

10:27 : How long ago did you buy your home in Leftover? If you bought it since the Housing Bubble burst around '08, then I take your statement to mean that the house has appreciated significantly, in real terms.

If you bought it decades back (like maybe in '80, when a new Volvo cost ten thousand Dollars), then I'm going to assume you mean the price has not kept pace with inflation.

I know someone with a chic Fifties Modern house in Leftover (without foundation problems, even...), who has been trying to sell the place for YEARS. He keeps lowering the price, too...

It looks like your home is holding its value pretty well. That is encouraging. Most of us in Madison moved here to avoid or escape the social climate among Jackson WHITES, rather than to "get away from - THEM". And we are not thrilled to see a mad stampede of people who are not moving here because they like Madison's unique over-the-top, aim-for-the-stars exuberance, but who are moving here simply because they hate and fear people of a certain color.

We really don't like matrons who go to First Pres in Jacktown, moving here and then telling us that our buildings are too fancy for their refined Colonial tastes. We wish people like that would stay in Woodland Hills or wherever, and keep on shopping at Maywood Mart and DeVille Plaza, where they belong.

Not that Leftover is home to people like that, particularly. And I really think that the young Hipster docs at the Med Center should be snapping-up the Fifties Modern houses there: they're perfect for the Midcentury Modern furnishings a lot of people seem to crave.

The particular house I mentioned in an earlier post is owned by someone who is not a "motivated seller". I doubt the house represents even five percent of his net worth. He just wants "To get away from all these vicious Jackson socialites."

I can't personally comment on Jacktown's social scene, since we moved to Madison directly from college - and grew up in the Delta. And if we 'go out on the town', the town is generally one to which we've flown, and in a far-distant region.

Anyway, contrary to what a lot of people think, those of us who live in Madison and Brandon wish for Jackson to thrive. We have our ways of life. You guys have yours. We want to preserve our way of life.
