One of my little spies at the State of the City address tonight told me the Mayor said Sam's submitted plans to the Planning and Zoning Department. Ouch.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Which mayor? Harvey or Mary?
I don't care if they leave Jackson, just hate to see them infiltrate Madison. Maybe we can get the Salvation Army headquarters to move from Jackson to Madison too. They have a nice building by the RR Track on State Street and could easily meet Mary's design standards. She could even bring in a small Swedish group to manufacture red kettles.
Hello, I'm a white person who lives in the city limits and has black neighbors. I am better than you.
Several of my fellow Jacksonians (none of my aforementioned African American neighbors could join us, sadly) were sitting in a fashionable Fondren eatery the other day discussing the week's Jackson Free Press issue and sanctimoniously mocking all the Rankin County trailer trash when the subject of Sam's came up. Of course, none of us shops at Sam's because that's for those rednecky Wal-Mart types, and we all agreed that it would be a good thing for it to go, as it would allow a more progressive merchant to occupy the space.
The possibilities are endless and exciting! We could see a blues club move in or a wholesale wig and beauty shop may arrive to meet the needs of the wig-wearing public. A progressive developer could convert it into mixed-income housing so that doctors and lawyers could sell their cheaply built Bridgewater mansions and move in next to HUD housing. Or perhaps it could be purchased by the city and turned into government office space, much like the revitalized Metrocenter that my friends and I are hearing so much about (haven't been out there yet, though).
My progressive, smarter-than-the-average-toothless-hillbilly-Rankin-Countian friends and I have determined that the only possible reason Sam's is leaving is because of racism. There's no other plausible reason (such as high taxes, crime, crumbling building, traffic), so don't even try to argue those points. It's settled, just like man-made global warming and the fact that the 2nd amendment is no longer necessary, because we progressives have declared it to be so and we're smarter and better than you unwashed, church-going fools. Still, Sam's management will be sorry once Whole Foods comes to town, BB King's opens on Farish Street, and everyone moves back to Jackson to flourish under the leadership of Mayor Johnson and councilwoman Cooper-Stokes.
Mark my words.
I am glad they are coming to Madison----By the time Mayor Mary gets through with them---It will be the most attractive Sam's in the U.S. and something the city can be proud of....
I'm glad they are locating in Madison also. Paging Shadowflux to tell us how trashy Madison is about to become due to the additional out of county handicapped tags that will infiltrate our fine city as the result of a quest to purchase 10,000 pounds of red beans........
@6:36; Who gives a hoot what the building will look like, which of Mary's rules will be most painful or whether 'the city is proud' of the design? The newly completed Islamic Mosque on highway 51 seems an attractive structure, but who wants it next door?
Madison probably has a hundred attractive buildings, some rivaling the Taj Mahal. One even recently had to replace it's giant, ornate, funeralizing urns for smaller ones less obtrusive to the skyline. And then there's the two massive buildings just north of town on the new parkway that cause 55 drivers to snatch their heads sideways in amazement and wonder. They're in the middle of what ought to be a corn field.
The problem is not going to be the design. The problems are going to be related to the massive traffic influx from outlying counties, more trash, more Pontiacs with cardboard H'cap placards rumbling into the chicken outlets, another parking lot for strangers to walk around in asking for gas money to get to where their sick momma is, more Patels loading the van with sixteen cases of soda, more reason for the two stations at the entrance ramp to run their gas price up another five cents and more people driving around looking for apartments that don't exist.
Why can't Mother Mary concentrate on bringing in a little competition for Kroger or a high-dollar oyster bar or a restaurant that celebrates our proximity to the Reservoir but isn't located in PRVWSD jurisdiction?
And instead of a poor attempt at emulating Ridgeland's bike trails, fix some potholes. I know Gene McGee and Mary ain't no Gene McGee.
Oh, I couldn't agree more! If I could name one thing Madison absolutely lacks, it's a high-dollar oyster bar. I can think of no better way to celebrate the town's proximity to the Reservoir, especially if they feature oysters harvested from the Reservoir, because manmade freshwater lake = oysters, right?
Mary Hawkins, get on this NOW!
If the oyster bar will serve up some coconut skrimps and flounder from the res, I'm on board. Let's get the petition going now.
Let the core rot and see how long it takes to spread. When there is no one to rob in Jackson, the thieves will simply go to Madison.
Let the core rot and see how long it takes to spread. When there is no one to rob in Jackson, the thieves will simply go to Madison.
Contagion theory bullshit.
Jackson is already rotten but the thieves smartly keep robbing whomever stupidly remains rather than face the law-and-order criminal justice systems in Madison and Rankin counties.
The Hinds Circuit is f'ed up beyond repair. It is a joke, a laughingstock.
Wake up dumbshit. People and businesses vote with their feet.
There were a number of legal ads in the newspaper Thursday requesting several variances from zoning requirements for a Sam's location at the northwest corner of the soon-to-be reconfigured intersection of Madison Street and Grandview Blvd.
So, if I follow 9:23 correctly, Jackson needs to retain just enough business to keep the crime located there. Well, why doesn't 9:23 open up a few targets, I mean businesses, in Jackson. I'm sure all of his/her neighbors would really, really appreciate it.
And why, oh why, does Shadowfax have such a hard on for the Patel family?
3:38am:
damn well, and possibly soberly, written for that time of day, sir. kudos.
To shadowfax you are correct we need an oyster bar----Like we need a hole in the head----I too know Gene McGee and you are correct he is no Queen Mary which is Madisons good fortune---Drive through Ridgeland and then drive through Madison---there is no comparison and there never will be unless Madison approves the construction of 10,000 low rent apts. and the oyster bar you suggest with additional parking for all of the motorcycles----You need to elect a new mayor if you want to take Madison down to Ridgeland standards he will do it in a hurry and you will get your oyster bar !!
@9:51 AM, good eye. which papers carried the notices?
The McGee/Hawkins comparison only spoke to her sudden fascination with bike trails. If you've driven Rice Road lately, you've seen 2x4s thrown about, piles of rusted steel and poorly laid concrete meandering in a pattern that simulates a bike path. Nothing Gene would cut the ribbon on.
Nobody goes to Olive Garden or Red Lobster any more and haven't for a decade. Cock-Of-The-Block has a seriously limited menu. Schimmel's is closed and was in a danger zone. The nearest decent restaurant is in rural Flowood. All Madison has is Boneflush and the cackling democrats have taken that over. There is talk of a new restaurant at Metro-Center that will sell state-of-the-art Tacos and soul food.
A high-dollar oyster bar-seafood and steak restaurant on the order of a New Orleans venue would be great, until Cantonians discover it. Even something comfortable like ACME Oyster Bar, but not a breakroom for construction workers like Shuckers. You know, something you have to look deep in your sock drawer to dress for. Not a damned corner in Sam's where one can buy frozen pizza or a hot dog.
I think we can automatically nix the idea of Reservoir oysters since Burwell would never allow it and who would eat an oyster that passed through the Leake County treatment plant anyway?
As to the Patel family, if Mary would allow them to open a gas station and hash-pipe dungeon, that would be a value-added project we could celebrate.
@ 1:24 The notices were in the Madison County Herald, a separate section of the copies of the Clarion Ledger thrown in Madison County.
@338. Given your free time to write such a tome, I am sure, as unemployed person, you will appreciate the cheap stuff at Sams.
Lets see, one store which caters to a high end selective population bets on future of Jackson....another store which caters to low end discount shoppers bets on the future of Madison.
Shadow -
You can make all of the little "smart-ass" remarks that you please about "Cantonians"; however, there is one thing that you and "Mother Mary" will have to live with - Canton is the County Seat of Madison County and it will continue to be the County Seat, not "Madison the City" - Canton!! Now live with it!! And, do not worry about "Cantonians" invading your space, most of us do not shop at Sam's, Walmart or any other Madison businesses. We simply bypass you to shop in Ridgeland or Flowood; so, I guess you Madison snobs will have to shop there to make up the difference for your tax collections - Good Luck!!!
Lets see, one store which caters to a high end selective population bets on future of Jackson....another store which caters to low end discount shoppers bets on the future of Madison.
Thankfully the tax dollars Sam's will yield dwarfs Whole Foods and puts your narrow-minded mockery to shame.
Shadowfax it is a good thing your name ends in fax instead of facts because you have no clue what you are talking about---Those are sidewalks for the schools not bike paths---Olive garden is at capacity and has been for years. If you don't like Madison you should move---Gene has plenty of low rent apartments available and one other thing from your comments you don't need to reach in your sock drawer to get dressed a sheet and a cone hat should fit you fine !!
@4:02 I doubt it. Congrats on the future influx of white trash Sam's shoppers. They will not be missed over here.
No doubt you are one of the many wankers 4:28 (too many for Jackson's sake) still living in denial and avoiding the hard work it will take to address the severe problems that have crashed Jackson's tax base.
4:28 Really believes that Whole Foods sales receipts will equal Sam's? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sam's Club... one more thing that Madison and Purl will have in common. Yay Madison!!
440. Hardwork? Like that is respected on this site that makes fun of Ben Allen, Leland Speed and others
"Let the core rot and see how long it takes to spread. When there is no one to rob in Jackson, the thieves will simply go to Madison."
Actually, empirical studies show exactly the opposite. There is always "someone to rob" --most robberies are poor people robbing other poor people. When crime hits critical mass, it stretches the police thin, which actually makes the crime-ridden area MORE attractive to criminals.
In short, robbing houses in Jackson is a good way to get drug money. Robbing houses in Rankin County is a good way to get killed. Thugs know this and the results are readily available in the monthly crime reports. So thank you, Jackson, for being the "crime sponge" for the metro area.
I am glad Sam's is moving! Once they are gone, we will have a central location (under one roof for you JPS grads) for a finger nail shop, a hair knot salon and a check cashing counter. Ah yes! Let the good times roll and the tax $$$$$ line the pockets hewey, dewey and the hat lady!
@338AM...Your post made absolutely no sense. Your point was what exactly?
I live in Ridgeland and Gene McGee does not deserve the accolades some on here give him.
The section of Highway 51 that runs through Ridgeland looks like a garbage dump. He has no interest in tearing down all these old apartment complexes down. They are eye sores and crime ridden.
He is responsible for a police department that is corrupt from the bottom to the top.
North Park Mall has turned into a mini Metro Center.
Yes, by all means, Mayor McGee is a great man and mayor. Not even close.
Seriously? Who gives a damn where Sam's is located? I could care less.
I sure hope they called Whitwell to avoid that PR nightmare... He was probably busy at river hills working on his serve
3:46 p.m. will now tell us one thing good about being a 'county seat' in 3 - 2 - 1........
@4:05 p.m. A restaurant full of sideways caps and guffawing hooligans is no draw at all; and, thank you for telling us what the plans are for the concrete paths in Madison. They've been 'under construction' for months, so....who knew. I love the greater Madison area, dunce, that's why I'm outspoken about Sams locating here. Pay attention.
9:53...First, it's "I couldn't care less." Second, by posting here you negate your entire statement, because you obviously cared enough to post here.
I drove by the concrete paths this afternooon. Whether they're primaly for cyclists from Ridgeland or school chirrun, looks like they could be completed within four of seven months. Can we look for Mary to axe John Bell if the County can finish the project as sort of a 'county kick in'? But, I'm still wondering how many school kids walk blocks and blocks to school anyway, anymore. You wouldn't know it by the hundreds of SUVs lined up every morning at that nearby school entrance.
I live in Madison and don't care about Sam's. I WANT A TARGET. Or COSTCO. Most of the people running Madison are too damned old to know why Costco or Target are better.
Well look for business to exit the jack to Madison and Rankin if Harvey is elected.
I've never been in a Costco. What the hell is the draw? How about a really, really quality meat market or any place that competes with Kroger. Amazing a town this size has only one Grocery chain.
Important questions to be asked about the Madison SAM's Club big box building :
How many Greek Urns will adorn the roof ?
Describe the brick color ( what shade of red) ?
The plastic columns will be of which order : Corinthian, Ionic, Doric, modified Tuscan, ect. ?
Will customers receive the same discount on volume pineapple purchases as they will on
purple faygo and chicken wings ?
I'm with @2:39. I want a COSTCO.
It amazes me how much fuss and traffic this move gets. I broke the story and thought nothing of it. Traffic goes through the roof, the local media runs with it. I mean, when B&N moved, no one made that much fuss. Same thing for other stores, restaurants, and churches that moved. Puckett got some play but nothing like this. Weird.
I just want to see how the new JSU satelite campus in Madison goes over. I saw Queen Mary on TV last night crying croccodile tears saying "But, But, But, I've been working on a Tulane campus for soooooooo long now."
Smart move on JSU, because school’s goal seek out more diversity. In other words where are you going to find white people. Yea, I said it...go ahead and call me a evil racist...
Ole Harvey announced today that he is running for re-election. Oh, and that Sam's Club is leaving. I'm pretty sure I would have addressed those separately
Mary was surprised by JSU because they didn't go and bow down and beg for her permission to locate in Madison. They just signed the contract with the building owner. After the Swedish flags being plastered up everywhere for a partnership with a town most of us can't recall and the pomp and red carpets rolled out for Tulane, what will Mary do to welcome JSU and their 10 year commitment to Madison? If she doesn't welcome them properly or continues to ignore them, it will look bad.
I am still trying to figure how Mr. Mary Hawkins Butler stayed out of jail for his involvement in the land fraud years ago. Johnny Dowdy must have had a very bad day.
It's my understanding JSU will locate on the vacant parkway that runs from Burger King to Gluckstadt. JSU has absolutely no intention of 'recruiting white people'. This only puts them ten miles closer to Canton, Yazoo City and Holmes County, all fertile recruiting Meccas.
Noel - why? He's mayor for life, which is why he doesn't care what happens. The majority of the population of Jackson doesn't care that Sam's is moving or that the business climate in the city is abysmal. All they care is that they have a black mayor and a black president and that assistance is flowing. Harvey will keep on getting his salary and will preside over the downfall of the largest city in Mississippi and they'll name half the buildings in town after him once he's gone, simply because he was black.
If you think Sam's will hamper Harvey's campaign, you must think Jeff Good hates being interviewed by local news, or Matt Eichelberger is reasonable.
Fadowshax. Congrats on posting the most ignorant post of the week. Being black does not guarantee you the position of mayor when most of the other people running against you are also black. However, the fact that your point is completely wrong is only the second worst thing about your post other than the fact that it is oozing with racism. Oh and shadowfax, the stated purpose being JSU moving to Madison is to attract a more racially diverse student body in order to comply with a federal law that would give them more money if less than 90% of their student population belongs to the same racial group. Given the fact that there is money at stake, it is pretty believable that attracting white students is their motive in building a second location in Madison.
12:43. Thank you for discerning my posts from the imposter's. Now, when you have time, tell us what 'federal law gives them more money if less than 90% of their students belong to the same racial group'.
JSU, as well as other HBCUs in Mississippi are (supposedly) bound by the decision in Ayers, but that's no federal law. Maybe you know of another. And pray tell how a Madison nexus will add white students to JSU's rolls.
The only things that would diversify its student population (legitimately) would be changing the name of the institution, raising its entrance standards, legitimizing its curriculum, hiring a diverse faculty and shit-canning the age old idea that Mississippi needs a few fall back opportunities for black folk to attend college. JSU has no intention of welcoming white students. Why do you think they concentrate their recruitment in other countries?
Some would argue a Supreme Court decision IS federal law or has the force of law.
...aaaaaand enter the sactimonious liberal (hi, Donna!) Harvey's initial election was based solely upon his race. You can play all coy and feign the requisite outrage, but when the lights are off and no one is looking, you know it's true. For a more recent example of this phenomenon, look to Malcolm McMillin, who was ousted by Tyrone Lewis based almost completely upon race.
I've long gotten over being called racist for pointing out the truth, simply because it doesn't jibe with liberal mythology. Also, the definition of racism has been stretched to include any criticism of a black person. Racism is the practice of restricting a person based upon race rather than action or merit - a far cry from reviewing the demographics of an election and finding that blacks voted 94% for the black candidate. So in the warped mind of liberal guilt, voting for a candidate based upon his race is not racism (if you're the appropriate color), but pointing it out is (if you're the inappropriate color).
Hopefully the black population will elect Chokwe and you and your progressive brethren can make new excuses for incompetence as a true racist takes over the reigns.
Hugs and kisses!!!
COSTCO.
What are you talking about Kingfish with your 'Supreme Court' comment. Since you apparently took up the mantel of his inaccurate comment, perhaps you will explain, quoting here, "in order to comply with a federal law that would give them more money if less than 90% of their student population belongs to the same racial group." Or if you can't explain it, where do you find it in a Supreme Court decision or federal law either one?
@9:53. I made a typo. No, I don't care where Sam's is located. I do care about living in a corrupt town.

The future of Madison looks funnier than a new taco joint in Fondren.
Pretty sure the new JSU campus isn't located in Madison. The mayor rolling out the red carpet for them would be the same as her rolling out the red carpet for Nissan, or the Links apartment complex. I agree that JSU would like to get their diversity up because of Ayers, but I don't see that happening just because they open a branch office north of Madison. They'll have to do some powerful reaching out to older folks who are looking to complete their degrees at night and on weekends, and I'm not sure that will make the rent payments. Shadowfax is probably right - they'll eventually have to pull students in from Canton and points north to get their numbers high enough to afford their new digs.
Bill, you are wrong. The new JSU campus is located in the Galleria office space, where Comcast is also located. Right next to Fontanelle neighborhood. Right behind the Burger Kang. It is in Mary's 'hood. They just correctly figured out the best way to get it done was to go around her.
Hey Shadowfax and Fadowshax. This is the guy that posted at 12:43 today.
I'll start with you, Fadowshax - nice name by the way. Sactimonious is a pretty big word for someone who probably has never read a book. Nice job! It really does not surprise me that I am the only one who has picked up on your racism. I mean it takes some pretty strong feelings towards black people to bring up black politics on an article about Sam's Club. I was not making the argument that many black people don't vote on race - we agree on that point. However, as you pointed out in your last post, there are other black people running for mayor (i.e. Chokwe), so it is not a sure thing that he is "mayor for life."
By the way, that was certainly a nice attempt at guessing my identity, but I'm a Republican male, and from what I understand, Donna Ladd is not.
Shadowfax. Here is a link to the article reporting on JSU's expansion. The reporter discussed the Ayers case in the 6th and 7th paragraph. http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20130122/NEWS01/301220025/JSU-open-campus-Madison
And if you do not like what Kingfish has to say (his 2:03 comment) then I suggest you make your own website. I will surely take time to read it whenever I need something to laugh at. Best of luck!
8:35 ~ If you're going to cite a reference and use it as an argument, at least quote it correctly. You either don't understand Ayers or you have no idea what a 'federal law' is or you're attempting to chew gum and post simultaneously.
If JSU were required 'by federal law' to reach 10% non-black enrollment don't you know Eric Holder and the boys would be camped out in motels all over Jackustan demanding somethin' be did about non-compliance?
Much to the dismay of the Ayers attorneys and the three traditionally black universities in this state, Ayers bit them in the ass by declaring them segregated schools. That one came out of left field as Bennie and the Boyz had never anticipated it.
The settlement of the case required the schools to beef up white enrollment if they wanted access to the money they’d sued for. They’ve had over ten years now to figure out how to do that.
I suggest you read the content of Ayers. JSU has the same intent now that it's had for the thirty some odd years since Ayers was filed, and that is to avoid white enrollment at all costs. They thought they could beef up Russian, Asian, Middle-Eastern and other non-white numbers and pull an end around on the court; but, unless Holder revises the racial classification system used by every federal bureau, department and court in this country, JSU will continue to circle the landing strip. Although I applaud the concept of every university in this state offering regional classes, this ain’t gonna impact the court’s decision.
I’d rather see a monstrous facility out on that parkway offering classes from every one of our universities, plus any out of staters who want to come here. And give JSU the lead role, top billing on the marquee and the corner office since they’d sue if someone else got it. As it stands now this whole JSU/Madison thing is simply wasting resources we don't have.
Alcorn convienced some fine little Russian girls to relocate to Lorman.
Now that's some serious ass diversity for a small time Black college outside of Port Gibson, Mississippi.
Go Braves, Go Braves, uhh huhhhh !
Thank you Justice Shadowfax for your eloquent narration of Ayers. You still missed the point that if JSU were to(not saying the move would work) increase the percentage of nonblack students going there, the University would recieve more money.
I didn't 'miss the point' at all. I clarified it. If people come away from this board believing there is a 'federal law that gives a colleg more money for having more than 10%' non-black students, what purpose (other than ignorance) will have been served. By the way, i before e, my friend.
I think JSU/ Madison should offer some undergraduate classes. Who cares if they compete with Tulane? Does Mary Hawkins work for Tulane or does she work for the citizens of Madison?
If people can get their first 2 years of undergrad reqs out of the way and then transfer to the school they want to graduate from who should stop them?
1:03 They can already do that at Holmes, which borders Madison and Ridgeland.
As far as JSU recruiting caucasians, my 11th grader has been invited to apply or visit by: Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Cal Tech, Dartmouth, Penn, Brown, Duke, Vanderbilt, Chicago, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Rice, Cornell, Alabama, MS State, the Ole Miss Honors College, Southern Miss, and many others around the country.
But not Jackson State.
Hmmmmm.....I guess they figure she couldn't hack the rigorous coursework there........
Sams related;
Wal*Mart just announced it is hiring 100,000 vets. The plan is to buy several M! tanks and a few F-22's and invade Costco!
1:03 Here is your answer. It's pretty clear that Mayor Mary works for Tulane. I smell more than a little racism here.
Madison, Tulane Ask IHL to Block JSU Expansion
This the first step in moving the Capitol City Classic to MRA.
And people say the hate for Jackson isn't racist. The reaction to JSU shines a light on all of this. The Tulane certificate program is a joke, with part time professors. It is just a cash machine for Tulane. One would think a state university would be welcome. God forbid a lack professor move to Madison.
Well at least there will be some attendance at Madison's MLK day parade.
JSU opening Madison campus....and in other news JA sees enrollment jump.
20 years it will be time for us all to move from Madison...20 years is the life time of retail area... Count it Metro 20 years, people don't go there now, then came Northpark, 20 years again no one wants to go there. So 20 years is all that is left for this place. Then wonder where everyone will go! Oh wait Mary doesn't care she won't be here in 20 years. Chances are she won't be here after she loses in November.
At 2:39 we won't get a Target because Mary doesn't like red she was a silver Target and at least these people have stood up to her to let her know she does not make them change their sign.
Say what you will; Mary Hawkins simply quoted the college board rules back to them. They broke their own rules. So, now it's racism to call that to their attention? Just as it's racism to be opposed to any of Barack Obama's policies. Either J-State follows the rules or they don't. Either they're held to the rules, or they aren't. Do we want to advocate their being allowed to skirt the college board rules?
Wasn't Tulane supposed to be looking toward a permanent campus around the 3 year mark? Any word on if they are doing so, and where that would be?
Mary addressed the Madison Co Republican Womens' forum last evening and clarified that the President of the school came to her office and announced JSU's intentions as a 'done deal', no need for discussion. Let's hear from the President as to why she pulled that stunt.
Additionally Mary stated her objection is based on the fact that we would have two universities within three miles of each other competing for the same student population. And she reiterated that what the IHL Board did violated their own written policy that addresses that subject.
The IHL Board is in violation of their rules and is accountable and needs to speak up as well. Or does JSU warrant dispensation from following the rules because.....well, just because?
The point is, all of this hoodwinkery (by JSU and the board) will affect the ability of Tulane to maintain a satisfactory nexus in Madison and will no doubt affect their intentions moving forward.
Who has to ask the Mayor? I know it would shock her, but she could hit me on head with pineapple and I wouldn't recognize her. SF, please show where rules were violated. I have seen them quoted, but no evidence of violation, just am outcome people don't like.
Curious as to why JSU didn't choose to go to Rankin County instead of Madison. Many more folks in Rankin......also with a community college branch already in operation, upper level classes wouldn't compete.
Reportedly, both JSU and Tulane offer or WILL offer programs designed to attract folks wanting to finish their degrees. These are NOT Holmes JC candidates looking for freshman English.
Regardless of your dislike for the mayor, the newspaper and news programs did a good job covering the IHL rules that were violated. 8:45; you may not understand the basic concepts involved here. Any city that has an elementary understanding of industrial development doesn't want multiple businesses moving into town selling the same product to the same customer base. Eventually vacant buildings will result and residents will have been poorly served. A good deal of leg work was done to recruit Tulane into Madison. Why wreck that relationship simply because an inexperienced female manager-turned-president at JSU wants to get up in somebody's face with a YO MOMMA attitude?
I have rad this thread starting with SAMs and now turned to Tulane versus JSU. Shadowfox it seems you think you know it all, poor thing you should have taken Tulane up and gone to see what they could have taught you. But your last comment was why RACISM is alive and the sad thing is you just want to be heard and feel like you are somebody. Please do Mississippi a favor and shut your mouth!!! This is truly an embarrassment with what all has transpired with The City of Madison and Tulane versus Jackson State every time you turn on the news, open the newspaper it is more and more. Lets please do the right thing and not do drama for reelection.....
January 31, 2013 at 5:47 AM = another harpy
"Any city that has an elementary understanding of industrial development doesn't want multiple businesses moving into town selling the same product to the same customer base."
Tell that to Wendy's, Burger King, and everyothe damned fast food joint that has come to Madison behind McDonalds looking for a piece of the same consumer pie.
We all know damn well that JSU isn't going to siphon off that many potential students who would otherwise prefer "Tulane" on their resume and the reasons why. Further, Hank Bounds essentially stated that IHL did consider Tulane's presence beforehand but did not see a conflict but an opportunity for increased competition and a potential win-win for adult education in central Mississippi. GAME OVER.
"Any city that has an elementary understanding of industrial development doesn't want multiple businesses moving into town selling the same product to the same customer base."
whomever said that needs to go back to their logical argument drawer and pick some new idiocracy.
one word - competition.
Oh, I think moving the capital city classic to Redneck Tech aka MRA would be a hoot!
and we've all heard about the towns that are too small to support a lawyer, but can support two lawyers.......
Shadowfax said, "They thought they could beef up Russian, Asian, Middle-Eastern and other non-white numbers and pull an end around on the court."
@ Shadowfax, please tell me more about how Russians are not white. Oh, and while you are at it, please tell me how there are so many middle-easterners and Asians in the Jackson area so that a University could easily boost its non-white numbers by recruiting in those communities.
