Maher & Pelosi make fun of Mississippi

Nancy Pelosi's daughter comes to Mississippi and records some of our um, less enlightened unwashed bretheren. Mr. Maher has an even more enlightened discussion with a panel after viewing the video. Worthy of Ted Koppel. Enjoy the video below.

We need to move the airport out of Rankin County...you know she went to find the first Redneck at Wal-Mart in Brandon.

It appears that one doesn't have to search too hard to find some local nutballs:

Asked whether Obama is Christian or Muslim, some 45 percent of Alabama Republican respondents picked Muslim; 14 percent correctly identified him as Christian. Another 41 percent said they were unsure. In Mississippi, a majority of Republicans, 52 percent, identified Obama as Muslim; 12 percent said he was Christian and 36 percent were undecided.

Happily, 52% of the MS Republicans polled do think interracial marriage should be legal (vs. 29% for illegal and 17% "unsure").

N.b. that Alabama actually comes off as a little smarter than MS in the poll. Sigh.

I bet Mitt Romney's people will share some flattering stories after eating catfish in a fake igloo in Florence last night.

But that means she pasted the beautiful new shopping center on Lakeland on purpose. She knew what she was looking for...
Why not eat at Table 100? or Corner Bakery?

This really says more about the mindset of Pelosi and Maher. They should be ashamed.
They also should look in their own backyards for entertainment if that is what they consider this to be...

Micah: FYI. There is no Walmart in Brandon, however, there is one in Pearl.

she was in vicksburg - one guys shirt said vicksburg toyota.

OMG She came to Mississippi and went out her way to speak to poor narrow minded people of our fair state, she didn't see any black people? I think Maher is a racist

The Butterknife said...

Actually, after the data released by the Republican poll taken in Mississippi, I'm pretty sure she didn't go looking for that. I think there were MORE than enough people EXACTLY as backwards as those who were willing to share an opinion. Despite what you may think, Mississippi isn't just drowning in educated Republican voters. Most who vote Republican in that education/economic arena do so out of fear and hate--not an educated opinion regarding government waste or fiscal conservatism (beyond, "Government BAD! GRUNT!") . There are idiots in BOTH parties.

Curt Crowley said...

Looks to me like she got a fair cross-section of the average white Mississippi voter. The retarded hoarder was over the top. But Johnny Reb at Vicksburg Toyota, the obese guy talking about starving on principle, the health care genius and the God-in-the-saddle nut represent a substantial portion of our electorate.

Video was not representative of Mississippi because it did not have any minorities and it was not representative of white people.

I will have to admit it is not hard to find people like that in the video, but they obviously did not make a representative selection of white people from Mississippi.

Even if Obama was a Muslim, that would not mean he is not American.

Lastly, I enjoy Bill Maher show, but if you ask me I think he probably is going to hell.

Did that feel good Butterknife? Did you light up a smoke afterwards?

I am not even going to watch the video. I have watched Bill Maher for enough years to know that this guy hates the South and could care less if we sank into the ocean. He is a nasty little man who gets off on making fun of others. I think the video probably says more about the small-minded Northerners than it does about Southerners and why is it that these videos always make fun of poor white Southerners and not poor black Southerners?...seems like there is an agenda here.

Mississippi continues to be the poorest state in the union and yet pelosi and maher et al cant see the obvious solution.

You could solve this problem overnight.

send $1,000,000 to each of our 3,000,000 residents (if Bubba is too proud to take his mill, I will accept his mill.)

Instantly, mississippi would go from the poorest state to the richest state.

She taped exactly what she came looking for: ignorant, red-necks. She could have found those kind of people in every state. Did you notice there were no women interviewed?

Doesn't it make you wonder why and how someone who doesn't believe in the Almighty is even on television?
He and his mullet need an exorcism from Max von Sydow or Anthony Hopkins!

KaptKangaroo said...

I'm surprised she did not use the language Maher spews with regards to women in a similar manner with "Southerners."

I would have loved to see a couple "creative classers" interviewed spewing about the greatness of Mis; strike that, Fondren; strike that, on why Whole Foods is a fascist ploy.

The Grifter said...

First I feel she didn't have to look too hard to find the people that she did. And secondly for those who feel she was cherrypicking certain types for the video, this is what blacks have endured in the media for decades. Everytime you see the news and they solict comments from someone, they go and find the most ghettofabulous looking and the most un-articulate black person they can. Think about the tornados last year, out of all the people who lost their homes or belongings in the storms, they plastered the tube with the guy who lost his cheeseburger. That's the kind of thing i'm talking about. People see that day in and day out, that is where they get the opinions they have about blacks.
As a lifelong Mississippian I have grown weary of the stereotypes associated with this state. And those stereotypes transcends race. But until we stop proving them RIGHT only then will the stigma remain.

There is a Wal Mart in Brandon. It is on Lakeland Drive and has a Brandon address.

I still feel that Obama is a Muslim and I am not really sure that he is an American. Many recent stories point to him actually being born in Kenya.

Anderson said...

And there you have it. Tho I confess to having thought that Walmart was in Flowood, not Brandon.

Shadowfax said...

Crowley; While slamming Mississippians, I think you pretty well described your clientele. Have you considered moving to a venue more in line with your aristocratic opinion of yourself?

Anonymous said...

OK...let's be honest

When it comes to dental hygiene, as a Mississippian, I am acutely embarrassed.

When it comes to redneck racists, as a Mississippian , I'm acutely embarrassed.

4:42pm is our poster child. Obama's mother was American. An American female could have a child on Pluto and that child would be an American.

NO ONE has ever accused her of renouncing her citizenship BECAUSE the paper trail would lengthy and not only McCain, but Hilary would have had it in a New York minute.

Anonymous said...

12:49 pm you are competing with 4:42 pm for ignorant poster child.

You dare not watch anything which might challenge your beliefs.

Or, you feel you are so easily influenced and weak minded , that you could be quickly seduced .

You dare not be informed of the opinions of those you oppose thougth in being informed , you could better argue and defend your position.

So Maher and Pelosi enjoy ridiculing poor people.

They are the epitome of boorish jerks.

KaptKangaroo said...

It would appear ignorance is bliss. Feel bad for that.

Shadowfax, the ability to read and form a coherent and logical thought hardly qualifies one as aristocracy.

I dunno about that, Curt. An aristocracy of merit, perhaps. Certainly a minority.

KaptKangaroo said...

Anderson, that was a bit o'er the top. Aristocracy knows no limit. Especially when one considers it. It is those of free will without bounds that know the limitless truth of life. Otherwise, you are sucking up to someone else. Just ask Shadow.

And on a lighter note in the same vein of this discussion, Jeff Foxworthy was in Richland today to endorse and stump for Mitt. Jeff is also known for his redneck jokes, one of which being... "If you make less than 100 grand a year and vote republican........ you might be a redneck."

That joke and endorsement is just dripping with irony

8:50 pm Maher is a political satirist. He makes fun of both parties, their leadership and their supporters

He is an atheist and pokes fun at religions and the self righteous.

He invites conservatives and GOP to participate on his show and they appear. They are treated with respect and the debates are lively.Unlike some shows, they aren't interrupting and talking over each other so that one can't hear what is being said.

He has contributed to Obama's PAC and honestly admits that so his bias is something one can consider.

That you think that should make him a target for murder in the US makes you creepy.

Rather a lot of humorists, satirists and comedians are making fun of GOP and Tea Party candidates these days. There are alot of Americans who aren't religious and who aren't Republicans. Are they all unsafe on our streets?

March 12 8:53 pm, if summarizing the advice of great philosophers like Socrates makes me an asshole, I'm proud to be one. The notion that a person should understand both arguments or gather the best available information before forming an opinion or making a decision is doesn't originate with me. That those who don't make the effort to be fully informed choose to be deliberately ignorant isn't a new concept either.

Anonymous said...

March 13, 2012 9:00 AM To which Bill Maher show are you referring? Evidently, there must be two of them being shown.

Anonymous said...

A member of the Pelosi family slanting a story to prove her point of view? HOODA THUNK IT!

Anonymous said...

I am amazed everyday that the people of Miss. being the poorest and least educated in the nation think that the candidates running in this election are looking out for their dumb asses. Please tell me ONE thing our last Republican president ever did that these toothless, over the top religious zealots feel was of benefit to them. I can see from the video how they prospered under the last president"s reign, because no doubt about it, Bush looked out for the uneducated, toothless Mississippian on welfare!! He cared!!

Anonymous said...

The South will rise again???? Yea, to an even higher level of ignorance. I truly believe Santorum will be looking out for those guys in the video. He will be the answer for them, no doubt.

Anonymous said...

It is really amazing isn't it, that the State that benefits the most from federal funds has been convinced to support candidates who want to dismantle the very federal government programs that drive the State's economy.

Santorum, who wins the State, doesn't want public schools .He said he thinks parents should be responsible for their children's education. Said that in a debate and I was stunned it didn't get more press. Don't know how those interviewed would do at home schooling their children or if they could afford private schools. Or perhaps, he envisions the churches being responsible for all education. After all, the madrassa system works so well.

Santorum is also opposed to common forms of birth control so those interviewed will have a better chance at reproducing themselves as he has said sex is for reproduction.

Joseph Smith figured out, like the Catholic and Muslim hierarchy that the best way to increase his religious following was to increase numbers through high birth rates. Only Smith did those religions one better by instituting polygamy. The more women impregnated, the more children, the more membership would grow. Have some evangelical leaders figured out the same? Neo-Nazis oppose birth control because they want to increase the numbers of white people.

Yes, the vision of a society that is dominated by one religion and requires women to submit to men , be fruitful and multiply and all learning is through the religious institutions and one party dominates sounds awfully familiar.

But, one MAN'S vision of Utopia can be a woman's vision of hell.

This is some of the most foolishly irresponsible reporting I have seen in a loooong time! Mississippi is always picked on, and this purposeful reporting showed that! There is no way that that reporter simply got off the plane and found that - no freakin' way! Racist people are all over, and yeah, even up North! But, here's what I especially hate - that SOME OF YOU feed into that foolishness! You have a non-white president, so GET OVER IT PEOPLE! DAMN! I truly hope none of yuo are people that I know 'cause that association would be cut!

Kingfish said...

He's not white? BS, he's one of us. He may not claim us but we claim him.

PEGASUS343 said...

KingFish? Bill Maher is an atheist ass-wipe anyway! Sadly, many Northerners hear things about Mississippi and are convinced we are nothing but a state of back-woods hicks! That was such shabby reporting by Mr. Maher! pathetic - at best!

PEGASUS343 said...

Ok Kingfish, I hear ya. But the racist element is only focused on the black half! tBut hey, the bottom line is that the 'Sip' will always be picked on anyway. They ar the one swho can't get over the past. The hell with 'em!

Anonymous said...

Obama's true heart and religious beliefs are between him and his god. But backwoods Mississippian that I am, I do know that I've never known of anyone outside of Cassius Clay that changed their name to Islam-like that did not, in fact, have those leanings. Has Mr. Mayer forgoten Rev. Wright's "GODAMNED AMERICA Video"? How dare he, or anyone, chastise me, my state or my beliefs in defense of an American leader that subscribed for 20 years to Rev. Wright's ideals and that once upon a time change his name from Barry to Barrack. My poor, Mississippi-native high school educated momma that held a tax-paying job her entire life always said, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...Maybe she knew a little something about ducks.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion, all Bill Maher was trying to point out is how ridiculous the thinking is of the AVERAGE Mississippian. They all hate Obama and want someone else that they somehow feel is going to make their lives better? By cutting out some of the very programs they depend on for their very existence. My rich friends hate Obama because they think he causes them to pay more taxes and is for MORE government. The ignorant poor people hate him because he is not white? But yet, he is the only president of late who has actually tried to do anything to help those illiterate fools and even try to get them some decent and/or affordable medical care. Wonder if they would be so against Obamacare if it had a dental plan?

Anonymous said...

Wonder why all the fat cats in Washington love their government run tax payer funded health care program? It seems like they get a pretty sweet deal. Maybe that's why they don't want anyone else to have the same thing. It sure is working for them. isn't it?

Anonymous said...

I don't consider it racist, she was merely getting the Caucasian point if view. Prior to showing he video, Maher explains that the African American point of view will be obtained later. Sad to say, but the ones I know feel this same way, except they have their teeth and they are employed.

Anonymous said...

11:26 AM Obama did not CHANGE his name. His father was from Kenya and he is named after his father's family.

He was raised by his white Kansas mother and grandparents after his parents divorced when he was a young kid. He hardly knew his father.

You really ought to distrust people who tell you such nonsense.

It is , after all, a great sin to bear false witness.

Anonymous said...

bottom line is Maher is an Idiot...We should all cancel our subscriptions to HBO and send them a message. His toothless Twitter comment today about MS and Alabama should be the final straw.

Anonymous said...

If you start trying to get rid of all those who poke fun at Mississippi, criticize Mississippi and react to those among us that publicly display their ignorance, our population in the country will be about that of Mauritania.

Let's face it, we have some embarrassing folks and " leadership" that has been less than stellar. We'd be alot better off not being so damn sensitive and defensive.

Anonymous said...

right on 12:07. Kind of like the guy saying if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck...

Why be so defensive of Mississippi when our state if full of those type people shown in the video and anyone who lives here knows it. If not the toothless redneck, it easily could have been the Lynch Street Profit Gang.

I went to Hawaii back in the 80's and when I told them I was from Mississippi, they were shocked. They thought we lived in trees and didn't have shoes. The perception of Mississippi nationwide is NOT a good one and that sadly, IS WHAT IT IS. And, on that note, I was recently in California and the lead story on all the news channels was Barbour's Pardongate. Sadly, we come across as a bunch of buffoons when we make headlines. Why don't we do something newsworthy that is positive for a change.

Our last governor basically shot us all a big fat bird on his way out the door and showed his true feelings for Mississippians when he performed his pardons like a coward and walked out the door. He did not display one iota of caring about the families or those left in the wake of any of his murdering trustees. It was ALL about him and his lard ass.

If any one of the Republican candidates is elected President, trust me, the South will not rise again. But sadly, most of us are too dumb and illiterate to get that.

Anonymous said...

The sad news is that Barbour was improving Mississippi's image.

Those of us who behave well when we leave the State help our image. I acknowledge our problems with sadness and point out there are wonderful Mississippians like the Mannings, the late Thalia Mara and Morgan Freeman et al who are trying to make a positive impact. I use to include Barbour but will be leaving him out now.

And, now we learn his wife arranged for two of the murderers to buy cars and had those cars delivered to the Governor's Mansion. I suspect this will get worse as too many continue to dig into WHY some of these people were pardoned. Defending Haley prematurely just because he's one of our own without asking questions is one of our failings.

We keep crying over spilled milk. We need to wipe it up and where it left a stain, we need to refinish the floor.

The truth is Pelosi didn't find actors to pretend they were Mississippians. Too many of us never confront their bizarre opinions. Worse, some of our politicians play to those bizarre opinions to get their vote rather than disabuse them of their notions. They are panderers rather than leaders and that is what Mississippi so desperately needs...true leaders. We need leaders who will inspire us and lift us up, not defend and benefit from the status quo.

There shouldn't be ONE Mississippian who doesn't know that Obama was born with that name. There shouldn't be ONE who doesn't know that American women give birth to Americans anywhere in the universe. There shouldn't be ONE Mississippian, black or white, whose racists views go unchallenged. We ought to be talking about why racism is STUPID and that it's LEARNED behavior.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
