Hinds County Chancellor Dwayne Thomas set bond at $100,000 for attorney Mike Brown in a hearing this morning. The Chancellor threw the lawyer in jail last week after he ruled he had taken all of a $3 million inheritance meant for then 16 year-old Demon McClinton. Mr. Brown was represented by attorney Clayton Lockhart.
Mr. Lockhart told the Chancellor he thought the hearing as held for the purpose of setting bond and requested house arrest, telling the court "He's not going anywhere". Judge Thomas asked "what kind of bond can you raise? and after it was clear Mr. Brown could not raise much money, told Mr. Lockhart "Do you know how much money is involved here?" It turned out Mr. Lockhart did not know bond had already been set. Mr. Brown asked once to address the court but the Chancellor said he could do so through his attorney.
Judge Thomas set it at $100,000 and said he would hear the motion to reconsider at a hearing on March 20, 2012 at 1:30 PM. Judge Thomas also ruled the jailed attorney must also provide an accounting of the estate and explain where the money was transferred. The Chancellor also ruled Mr. Brown can not leave the state without his permission if he posts bond. He can use a bonding agent. Judge Thomas decreed the bond must be paid to the guardianship of Demon McClinton.

I guess his lawyer will post his bond since Brown has no $'s... Who feels sorry for him now?
I think it's unethical for an attorney to post bail for his client. I think they can arrange for a bail bondsman though. But, we're not talking ethical people here, so what the heck?
Oh my goodness, the lawyer use to stay at the Brown's all the time. I always thought that something strange was going on cause the Browns have girls. You just never know your neighbors!!!!!!!!
Shouldn't bond be set at $3 million?
Brown has a home office. That is why Shackelford and Lockhart are always there.
If he stole $3 million, as alleged, and can't account for it, the bail should be set at $3 million. It may be the only way to make him produce this kid's money. It's not punitive if the state feels he has possession of the money.
This guy was sucked into Linus' Cemetary scam. ): poor Guy
@5:32 Poor guy my A$$!!! This guy is one of the most sleezy, crooked, people you'd ever run across. I wouldn't be surprised if he sucked them into the scam. I know for a fact that he's been publicly censured by the bar association at least once for unethical behavior and he's had at least two other complaints filed for taking money when he shouldn't have. Poor guy, my A$$ -thinks a license to practice law is a license to steal!!
If a license to practice law was a license to steal, I would be able to pay off my student loans.
Poor Brown! If you only had never met that swindler Linus Shackelford you would never be in the jumpsuit. If you run with Satan you will become a devil.
We are taking Hinds County, he will post bond and they will slap his hand and next he probably be handling the affairs for the city of Jackson or Hinds County. He will fit right in!!!!
Is that same Shacklefor that owned a boots store back in the day? What he been up to since?
People remember Matthew 16:27di
Now another one comes forward according to the Clarion Ledger website... I do believe there will be many more meanwhile Hinds County will release him on Bond and the saga continues and no telling what he will do once he gets out this morning on bond!!!!!!
I agree with 7:29 that there will be more. Interesting that he was paid $200,000 to recover money from a trust that had far less than that in it. I know for a fact that the girlfriend's grandmother set forth in her will that the money was to be used for the girl's two children (one of whom is the child of James Michael's son) and deliberately did not want her to have it. Judge Owen heard the case in Hinds County Chancery Court and agreed. By the way, these are the same two children who were removed from her (the son's girlfriend)care by the court due to negligence and placed in the care of relatives, where they still are. The girlfriend also served 30 days in the Rankin county jail for child abandonment and is now a homeless drug addict in Orlando. All of this with the children occurred prior to Brown soliciting the $200k from Mr. and Mrs. Michael. Brown is total scum.
The bank had to know to phone the FBI. This would have never happened to a white child. The Mississippi Bar Associstion is a waste of time, your time is better spent joining the NRA.The Bar should make attorneys pay a bond after be found guilty of anything,or they should simply choose another career path.Sue the bank, question the FBI,and hire Precious Martin. The must close its doors.

good lord you are ignorant. fbi involvement? it's racial? ms bar vis a vis nra? attys paying bonds if criminals??
p. martin can close 'its' doors, whoever 'it' is, by wedging himself in them.
Maybe the racism should be directed to law enforcement stepping up to protect a minor african american male. For us Steadivest victims white Wolfe and white collar crime seems to have sparked no interest of law enforcement at a much larger theft of $15+million
Yep, Linus is the Boot guy. He's been gone from there 22 years. Since then he has been "developing" that cemetery on Lakeland Dr. Very little progress in 22 years. "investors" have kept him going. Not a single investor has gotten a return on their investment. Every dime vanished.

7:33 U.S. Government Accountability Office,U.S.C. statue 3403/c,currency transaction reports, suspicious activity report, and the bank secrecy act. GOOD LORD!The Bank was helping Brown.
Somewhere, soon to be fereted out, Jimmy Houston will be found at the top of this pyramid.
Not Houston just the Hinds County cronies!
Google "Linus Shackelford". It's amazing how much of an inflated sense of self this idiot has. I know this con man. He has no education, but list all types of degrees he claims to have. These are actually "certificates" from small few hour class that anyone can take.
Google results: He has about 5 different Facebook pages. He has tons of judgements against him from being sued because he "borrows" money and never pays it back.
He is very shady
He has stolen money from me. He definitely knew where the money came from in this case. Above all he's the biggest liar you will ever meet.
YES, you must be his family member!
Apparently, Brown made bail and is out of jail. His name is not on today's Hinds County jail docket.
Yep, he is out... watch out the scams will be plentiful.... remember they have froze his assets, does that mean cash? or did they find his mattress? Believe me as soon as he raises his $ amounts in his war chest he is gone and his partners in crime will never see him again...
