So I am at Men's Wearhouse last night. Store had a few customers picking up tuxes and others getting fitted for their prison garb they get to wear on the day of their castrations oops I meant weddings. This little black boy is there with his mother as she waits for service. Cute kid, a precocious type. Pointing to thing such as cuff links and asking me questions about them, typical kid stuff- what are these?, what are they for?, and the like. Could just imagine this kid playing with a chemistry set for some reason. He was nice and I'm sure mom needed a break so I didn't mind.
I then go sit down at the other side of the store for my service and of course guess who pops up a few minutes later but the same kid. He gets me to ask him how old he is, where he goes to school, you know how kids are. He's proud to answer all the questions. He said he was six, he went to Sykes (I had to help him pronounce it), and his mama was a police officer for Jackson. He then asks if I like Martin Luther King. I said yes, he was a great man. He then said white people killed Martin Luther King. I said well, I like him, I've watched him on tv many times and I like him. He then says white people burned down his house. I said again, well, I like Martin Luther King. He says his mama said white people killed him. He asked why white people killed him. I said there are bad people out there but not everyone is like that. He then "you're nice but you're white" as if he were surprised by that fact. Needless to say, I was surprised to say the least. He was very friendly the whole time, just curious. About this time the salesman walked up.
I just have one question for my black readers: Is THIS crap what you are teaching your children?

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Kingfish, are you just now becoming aware of this? Glad you made the point. Go to a retail outlet, restaurant, government, etc. and see who receives preferential treatment. Ain't whitey. Ain't saying it should be, but neither should they be disrespected. Bring up our political leadership, and liberal news media, to further mentoring their attitudes.
I was unaware of King's house getting burned. I know the Democrats bombed his house during the Montgomery boycott, but I know nothing about the Democrats burning it. Why do people not teach their kids that Democrats are savage animals?
Mr Mitchell forgets it was democrats who were in charge of the South at the time King was killed.
Anyway, the kid's worldview isn't new. That's been around for years.
A chilling anecdote, but beware the fallacy of sampling. Blacks and whites will continue to mistrust each other for decades or forever, but until I see valid evidence to the contrary, I will still assume that only a small minority of either tribe educate their children to hate the other.
well right out of the gate you identified the boy as "black". It would have been evident from the story that the child was black without it being highlighted in the first sentence.
You were slighted by the fact that he was making distinctions between white and black people, or his mother was. But you did the same thing in your first sentence by identifying him by his skin color which was not entirely necessary.
He is a child, not a "black" child. You're a man, not a "white" man. He's a child with a curious mind, not a "black" child with a curious mind. You're a man in a red shirt, not a "white" man in a red shirt. He's a child in a striped shirt, not a "black" child in a striped shirt. He's a kid chewing gum, not a "black" kid chewing gum. In other words, I'm talking about the kid chewing gum, so one can identify the subject person that way as opposed to his skin color. He' a man with a book, not a "red" man with a book or an "Indian" with a book. It's convenient, but not necessary.
We should ALL stop identifying people by their skin color...After all a white person doesn't say I was talking to a white guy the other day. Or a black person doesn't say I was talking to a black dude the other day. Or a Native American saying I was talking to a red man the other day. No, they say I was talking to a friend the other day. Which is enough, no skin identifier necessary. Only when it is opposite races to we see that. Why? Would leaving skin color out of it change the tone and be more sensitive? I think so. Instead of saying "see that black guy over there?" You could say, "see that guy over there with the striped shirt? or the bad haircut? or the pot belly? or baggy pants?".
There is a racial divide in this country that goes both ways and identifying people by skin color is part of the reason. It's a bad habit that could be broken with some aforethought. Let's all try it for a day.
Seriously, the fact that I pointed out that Democrats bombed King's house means that I forget that Democrats ran the South then AND now? By the way, Democrats run the entire country, I Wrong Host. Do not get hurt using your brand of logic.
Kingfish, you should administer a minimum skills test in order for people to comment.
It should of course be noted that the Democrats ie Dixiecrats that ran the South in those days all migrated to the Republican Party following the passage of the Civil Rights act. So many folks conveniently deny that fact.
Reximus, it should be pointed out that the Dixiecrats going to the Republican Party is a flat out lie promoted by Democrats. I posted in 2005 on that lie and have names and party affiliation upon their deaths. Three of the fifty Dixiecrats moved to the Republican Party, the rest stayed Democrats. Inform yourself.
http://www.meanolmeany.com/2005/05/dixiecrat-trip-down-bigotry-lane.html
... but beware the fallacy of sampling.
You are such an ass.
Beware, you are an ass.
We must come from two entirely different places, then.
Kingfish, you should administer a minimum skills test in order for people to comment.
FINALLY a voice of reason. Thanks Paul.
11:37 - It would be virtually impossible to relay this story without identifying the race of the child. Take out that descriptor and the story makes no sense.
Given KFs conversation, I would have been more disheartened that such a bright, outgoing child was being led into such a negative thought process.
KF, it is common but probably not much more than those white folks who impart racism in their children. It's the same old black/white thing that people just won't leg go.
Reximus, I am assuming that you are referring to me? I gave a link that PROVES what I stated, that three of the fifty Dixiecrats became Republicans, the rest stayed Democrats. My argument is based on facts, with names of those people that you referenced. You cannot dispute the facts with your personal anecdotes or using a specific place where facts obviously do not exist.
Herein lies the rub with political debate and discourse in this day and age. When facts are plainly stated and proven, Democrats deny them and rebut with a personal opinion.
So I'm guessing that in your opinion, the "Southern Strategy" was not an actual ploy by the Republicans? Lee Atwater actually admitted it.
Reximus, great question. If the Southern Strategy was something employed by the Republicans, it was a hideous failure that never worked in history. Oddly enough, I did a post on that, too, with graphics that you are sure to understand.
http://www.meanolmeany.com/2010/07/southern-strategy-is-raaaaacist-and-has.html
Any other racist Democrat fantasies you want to reference? I have probably destroyed those with facts, too. I am funny like that.
It wasn't necessary to point out he was black. It was obvious by the statements, questions, and his references that made it obvious.
Martin Luther King's teachings were the exact opposite of what this BLACK CHILD is being taught. But it really doesn't matter because it is typical of the black race:
1) Hate whitey
2) Take complete control of this country.
3) Perpetually punish whites for all of the BLACKS problems.
4) Destroy anyone who disagrees.
Yup, Martin's message is falling on this black generations' deaf ears, so everyone has to decide for themselves if your supportive of this atitude, or your going to wake up and quit taking all of the bullshit and intimidation the "black powers that be" are shoveling. By the way, they're looting the hell out of this country.
Say Amen. And you might add were it not for the lacks of the Clintons and other like thinking whiteys the decline might have been much slower.
" his mama was a police officer for Jackson "
Yes, Kingfish. Unfortunately this is sad but true in many cases. I see it with the younger generation blacks I work with. They are real quick to try and use race as an excuse when they get into trouble instead of accepting responsibility. As I mentioned I think it is the younger generation ,30 and under that you will see this in. The older blacks understand what we all experienced, black and white during the integration years.
It wasn't necessary to point out he was black. It was obvious by the statements, questions, and his references that made it obvious.
Had Kingfish said nothing about skin color and the little boy was spewing the most vile anti-Semitic slurs while denying the Holocaust then what would you conclude? Beyond the fact that little boy has been trained to hate what would be obvious from the conversation?
Your right 2:11. Kingfish only reported the facts.
The rambling dissertations that you cite, were probably posted by the unpaid labor ... AKA "interns" at the local
weekly entertainment circular.
He was from a sub-culture and not Hebrew.
So, what is the lesson in the story about the child? Is it that we should be amazed at the sparkle in his eye when he spotted a cufflink that drew his immediate attention?
Or is it that he was not yet of an age to have established sufficient hatred of white adults to stay clear of them in public places? Or is it that blacks and whites would be shopping in the same upscale store on the same side of the sidewalk on the same day?
Or is it that a white man took a few moments of his time to enjoy the company of a little black person who was free of malice?
And if the proprietor of Men's Warehouse had suddenly screamed "STOP THIEF!" would the patrons have looked immediately to a black customer or a white customer? Or is there any lesson at all?
And as an aside, the frequent arrogance on this site amuses me (a test to decide who should be able to post). Haughty Pigs indeed.
Your question was not relevant to any of the statements you made above. Do you know what your question was? And it was comparing apples to oranges, relevant to the article. Furthermore, Men's Warehouse is not an upscale store, except in price.
'm new to this blog. I love it Kingfish !
One question: Who is the "Shadowfax" dude ?
He is seems to post incoherent diatribes
that make no sense .
Isn't that the name of Harry Potter's flying horse, or some other goofy dungeons and dragons character ?
'm glad the little fellow was inquisitive about cuff links.
Despite his racist JPD " Mom", I'm sure he like the way he looked, it was guaranteed!
If you think that line of thought is bad try living in Durham, NC. I did and move away in less than a year, only to have all my fears come true with the Duke Lacrosse case. It may be that some bad thoughts prevail here but there all thoughts are bad.
He's a horse. Tolkein.
And, Burke, great comment. I agree.
Sad to think that children are polluted by adults who should know better.
KF you getting married?
The mother of this child is irresponsible at best. In all honesty, I don't understand it. It really makes no sense to teach a child hate, any hate.
Not sure what the purpose of teaching a child a revised/alternative reality. It serves the selfish exploits of an individual who doesn't give a crap about the future. I'm not amazed, I'm continually disappointed by stories like this.
Welcome back Mitchell!
Read the post on the Dixiecraps and it was interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, KK. I just realized there were some dropped links in that post, so I have to rebuild that. Dang it.
I don't know why my comment got killed (it would have been the second this morning).
KF - you should have asked him who was the white person who killed Malcolm X, or Biggie Smalls, or Tupac Shakur, or Marvin Gaye, etc.
I'll leave out the rest re: black on black crime in case mentioning its existence is why the first comment got spiked. I'll also refrain from questioning how his mother can faithfully and evenly uphold the laws she has sworn to uphold since she has such a view of Caucasians - wasn't that kind of thinking supposed to be bad when another ethnic group practiced it 50 years ago?
The real unfortunate comment about all of this is that racism is alive and well.
KF, I'm glad you took the time to engage in conversation with this innocent child that is obviously being mislead by his mother. It's frustrating to see such ignorance taught to children these days!
One question: Who is the "Shadowfax" dude ?
He is seems to post incoherent diatribes
that make no sense .
Why post such an inane comment if you are truly new here?
Piss off wanker and stop wasting our time on crap.
I'll admit to not having read the 'rest of the story' until just now. I'd just read the intro and then clicked on the posts to see what they were.
Growing up in a small Baptist church where we were required to attend at least three times a week or proceed directly to hell, I have some memories. One is of being told 'Jews don't believe in Jesus'. Like the black boy (and his mother) in this story, I'm not sure if WE were told that about Jews in order to get us to dislike them or just what the reasons were. But, the net result was that little kids grew up with real negative impressions about (in my case) Jews, and in the case at hand, white people.
This little boy will no doubt harbor those impressions of white people forever, just as 'we little boys' had no knowledge of Jews other than 'they don't believe in Jesus'.
I don't believe adults in the church wanted the children to dislike Jews, but I'm certain adults in the black community DO want their children to quickly develop distrust, if not hatred, for white people.
I do believe that is the first mea culpa that I have read from Shadowfax. We have progress.
Shadowfax, I am Catholic and I understand what you mean about your religious teachings. However, we were taught that Jews do believe in Jesus because their is too much proof that He existed, they just don't think he is the Son of God.
Of course, that doesn't matter much anyway, because only Catholics go to Heaven.
We were also told deacons didn't cheat, Baptists didn't drink and you didn't have to eat turnip greens in Heaven.
All damned lies!
What is the advantage claimed when they teach a black baby to hate white people?
Of course, that doesn't matter much anyway, because only Catholics go to Heaven.
But only after a brief layover in O'Hare International.
"He's a horse. Tolkein."
Well, our Shadowfax is only part of a horse.......
First of all, this child , at age 6,was not afraid to approach KF. 4 year olds will talk to a fence post to hear themselves talk. 6 year olds are more cautious around adults. So, his mother obviously didn't make him afraid of white people.
6 year olds are very literal and stories abound of how 6 year olds go to school and often humorously, often not, report what their parents said . I know I got into trouble at school 60 years ago at that age 6 for my interesting interpretation of the arrival of my sibling. And, my own children and now grandchildren had interesting " spins" on adult conversation content as well.
A white racist did kill Martin Luther King and white racists were suspected of the bombing of his house. For a child to make the " leap" that white people didn't like MLK isn't far fetched.
And, Paul Mitchell, I was a young adult during the 60s . I socialized with more than a few of the known politicians of the day. I heard their conversations made " among friends". You are very selective and naive in your interpretation of information.
There was ( and is) a Southern Strategy. You might should read Billy Mounger's book. He was THERE in the moment as well.
And, while it's true that the Democratic party continued to hold on to their post Civil War dominance in Southern states during much of the Civil Right era and while it's true that some old Kluxers, like Byrd," reformed", only a fool believes the positions Democrats took on Civil Rights didn't drive white racists to the GOP.
But, do you know how I know your posts are BS, Paul? I am a WASP female who was brought up not to discuss politics in social settings, but I sure get an ear full. Since I'm white and drawl, it's assumed I must hold the same views. I hear much worse racism from astonishing sources at social gatherings than is written here.
And, guess what else, Paul, many of us women don't bother to "fuss" with you guys about your politics. Some of us even go to your political events with you as we want to help you in your ambitions. That doesn't mean we can't or don't think for ourselves or cancel out your vote!
Some of us,gals, also get to know more about the real lives of Black people because we spend many hours with " the help" . We figured out mighty quick that there are good and bad folks in both races that are a bane on our communities.
Keep up this birth control nonsense in the GOP and , like the VA legislature, you'll see from the gals, just like you did at the ballot box here on Parenthood, that our patience with you boys and your games has a limit.
Paul, your " tat" speaks volumes.
How is this any different than what is being taught to Muslim children in the middle east? Thou shalt hate the infidel and put them to the sword or blow yourself up and go to heaven with 72 hairy virgins. I am so fed up with this kind of crap. If a white child went up to a black man or woman and said, "your a black person, you are the reason why Jackson is crumbling and crime is so bad.", then there would be protests, ACLU marches, Reverend Jesse would be down having a media storm, and Kenny Stokes would try to pass a city ordinance that prohibits white people from meeting in groups larger than 3. This is such a fucking double standard, white people are suppose to accept, love, and never point out race, but blacks teach there kids that white people are never to be trusted.
Rex, how did that bitch slap sandwich, courtesy of Paul, taste?
To the person whose comments I won't post. Sorry but longwinded comments about Israel and the settlers have nothing to do with this post or thread.
I hate to bring up uncomfortable, easily researched FACTS, but a higher percentage of Republicans voted FOR the 1964 Civil Rights Act than Democrats. Look it up yourself, or continue spouting ignorant falsehoods.
10:49am were you old enough to know your surroundings in 1964? Did you ever take US history and get a passing grade?
Yes, Republicans had ( remember the Civil War) supported " emancipation" and fair treatment for Blacks. They also were pro-abortion in 1964. The Democratic Party was the blue collar party and the party of the Catholics ...NOT the GOP.
It is because of the Civil War and the aftermath of Reconstruction that Southern states were solidly Democratic.
As the South began to react to Civil Rights Act and seeing the turnout for Wallace, the GOP, beginning with Nixon, saw an opportunity and seized it.
Engaging in selective, revisionist history is unworthy of a great Nation.
9:34am The GOP is pandering to the extremists elements who support " personhood". Women will not be fooled the lack of a formal party stance...especially since the GOP Presidential candidates have gone on record as being for " life begining at conception" and strongly anti-abortion. Since many common forms of birth control prevent the egg from attaching to the wall of the uterus rather than preventing fertilization, a Pandora's Box is opened with that stance. Women are not as dumb as the candidates assume and we know there are reasons other than pregnancy prevention, that women take birth control pills and have an IUD.
I will say this once on this thread. I'm not posting comments about personhood, abortion, and the like. They have nothing to do with the post or the discussion so don't waste your time anymore trying to post about Israel, personhood, abortion, or other off-topic subjects in this thread.
I'm so disappointed in you Paul.
I expected you to fall back on the " MLK wasn't hated because he was black, he was hated because he was a Commie. Love the Black folks, hate the Commies".
And, I can't believe everyone has made so much out of a 6 year old not being able to appreciate the difference between " white people" and " all white people".
Applause for clarifying for the kid in a way he could understand, KF, but I think it's unfair to the kid's mother to assume any 6 year old is an accurate reporter of his parent's words.
I guess y'all are all to young to remember Art Linkletter.
The over reaction is amazing.
All of the blame may not be on the parents.. My husband, young children and I moved to Jackson many years ago. We had always lived in areas of the country where there weren't many black people at all. After attending day care here for a couple of years, my daughter told me that she didn't like "brown" people. I asked if she meant black people. She said that the other kids at the daycare called them black, but she always disagreed with them because they were really brown, not black. My husband and I had never said anything to our daughter about not liking "brown" people. I can only surmise that she was influenced by other kids at the daycare.
OK KJ~
The reference to the burning house was the Vernon Dahmer house allegedly firebombed on orders from Sam Bowers.
Is that un-winded enough and fall within the guidelines?
Art Linkletter was black?
Anon 8:49, I appreciate your naivety and personal anectdotes, but I hope I do not have it when I get to be your age. If you are correct that the racists matriculated to the GOP, why is it that it wasn't until last election that Republicans finally took the state house? And if the Southern Strategy was actually used, why didn't it ever work? I posted a link to the actual PROOF, but I guess a misinformed person has to draw their own conclusions from something. Asses included.
By the way, some of us folks got to know black people from work at the brick yard.
And I do not have a tattoo.
I agree 100% .
Mens Warehouse is not upscale.
It's nice and has some good deals,
but it's like saying Red lobster is
fine dining.
You are right. Needed a tux.
I Understand. I shop there too.
This thread when viewed in its entirety brings a new definition to full circle. Take your meds Mitchell.
When I was around your young friend's age, my mother told me that King was a communist, that Medgar Evers "stirred things up too much," and that she wasn't that upset when JFK was shot because of how much he "hated the South."
Most of my middle-class white friends heard similar things from their parents.
Racially charged resentment is a two-way street in Mississippi.
Paul,
Are you really arguing that strategies didn't exist if they didn't work?
This thread when viewed in its entirety brings a new definition to full circle. Take your meds Mitchell.
Nobody is forcing you to read anything here.
Anon 6:10, I am not arguing that they did not exist, but to try something consistently that has never worked is territory reserved only for Democrat economic policy. If anyone believes that the key to winning an election is by carrying the South, they do not know what the electoral college is. Just saying.
Try to pin racism on the Republicans, where it doesn't exist, and to deflect it from the racist Democrat Party some other way. That one is a loser when facts get involved.
Funny, but I tend to look at pinning the word racist on racists. Not a party or a belief that is associated with some farcical aquatic ceremony. The left continues to remain relevant with racism and it's traditional AA base. The problem is, for the left, AA's are starting to question the patronage behind their efforts.
And, with this story told, ignorance is not a monopoly held by any one person or group.
Aside, the religion discussion was interesting.
Thanks, Monty.
At least the kid's family (as in momma & grandmomma) hadn't taught him to say 'kill whitey.'
I've decided to cover Kingfish's bar tab from here on out. While managing to exclude posts on 'personhood' and 'abortion' from the discussion of a six year old's racism, he gets himself trapped into allowing a rambling one from the WASP female @ 8:49.
Since she identifies herself as being in her middle 60s, she can't blame her mental disjoints on menopause, which otherwise would have been my first reaction to her post.
Her analysis of the psychology of a six year old's behavior is without basis. She inaccurately imagines MLK's house was torched and she envisions herself being a willowy bracelet-charm hanging on the arm of her controlling husband during Julep-driven political discussions.
Then she touches on birth control and non-existent tattoos.
After reading the post four times I'm still unable to grasp what she thinks she said. It's probably 'just me.
It's all just as well though, since in today's Clarion, Mitchell explains that the whole basis for the plight of blacks is that they've been devalued since birth.
My analysis of a 6 year old is based not just on motherhood and grandparenthood ( therefore many hours spent with children), but also on having studied child development. Have you read Piaget or Ginott, Shadowfax?
Shadow, you seem to believe that 6 year olds can report verbatim what their mothers say. And, then you compound that error by jumping to the conclusion that she has taught a boy that confidently approached a white man to hate white people. Hogwash.
No one accused all Republicans of racism. Racism during the 60s was certainly bi-partisan among white people. The fact is that most blacks after the Civil War joined " The Party of Mr. Lincoln" and most Southern whites were Democrats. That has changed. Those who do not think the policies and strategies of the two parties had anything to do with that change are naive beyond belief. And, you are even more naive if you don't think Democratic and Republican strategists look at the demographic potentials and target potential " markets".
It is a shame that the seven deadly sins and stupidity aren't racially determined or that we can immediately recognize a good book by it's cover, but we can't.
If that picture of Paul isn't Paul, my apologies. But, if that isn't a tat on his neck, then his neck is very dirty in the photo.
I can't help but think that those who are getting tattoos are unobservant. If they were, they'd have noticed what tats look like when skin elasticity decreases and gravity takes its toll.
And, I can't help but think none of you have met the church going, professional, well educated and talented Black people in our state. You should all broaden your horizons.
Yes, there are thugs, but there's also. alas, white trash. White trash has less excuse.
.... but there's also. alas, white trash. White trash has less excuse.
Your personal experience with white trash is noted. Thanks!
Donald Rumsfield voted for the 1964 civil rights bill, when he was a congress man from Chicago. Al Gore's dad voted against it.
Back to the criticism of the author's use of the perfectly reasonable adjective "black" to introduce the character quickly and descriptively: the only other way he could have conveyed the fact with immediacy would have been to write the little boy's dialogue in dialect. *Mon Dieu*, would not THAT have set off a conflagration here? "Whut dis lil' shiny gold thang be?";);)
And Burke, quite nice to see a voice of reason here...although I must confess: "random sampling" is my very favorite kind!
You actually have black readers? I am white and the racism here is loud and alive. It saddens me to see how many do not see an individual at all. Only color and it's "issues" that whites seem to enjoy dissecting, according to their own private "truths" and imaginations. I prefer to find common ground and attempt to build on that. I am not pissed off, just sad.
I am white and the racism here is loud and alive.
And despite the racism you are still here reading. Is that the high road or the low road you are traveling?
Pointing out the race of someone is not racist.
"4 year olds will talk to a fence post to hear themselves talk." haha
KF, its always an unguided trip when you talk and play with a kid. You just never know where their little minds are going to go. I'm glad you took the time to talk and listen to him.
"...and of course guess who pops up a few minutes later..." Cracked me up. Many years ago, I had what seemed to bee 582 little children living around me. And yep, they pop up all over the place.
I'm glad you took the time to talk and listen to him.
8:54am It's logic and statistics. If one has been white in the US, one has historically enjoyed an advantage.
8:54am It's logic and statistics. If one has been white in the US, one has historically enjoyed an advantage.
9:53 sm. I love Mississippi and hate that racism still holds us back. I haven't given up.
10:40 am an " unguided trip" indeed :-)
I can only assume 8:22 is the same woman who earlier touched so many bases she thought she'd hit a homerun when in reality she slipped between first and second on a fresh spat of chaw and lay flat. I won't bother reading her last post a third time as it's obvious to me she's already 'ginned out' before nine in the morning.
Shadowfax,
Of course she's ginned out. Delicate, yet enlightened (self-proclaimed at least), Southern Belles must do something to ease the pain of their guilt. Oh the horror of those honorable, poor blacks, and the hordes of sorry, white trash, who are only getting what they so rightly deserve.
Whoooott we havvvve here, is Southern White Guilt! Too many of you women have spent a lifetime in the Episcopal diocese, fretting over the plight of disenfranchised blacks, moaning about your personal guilt and promising all the spirits in the liquor store to atone early and often. Glooooom, despaaaaair and miiisery on Youuuuuuu.
Is this a great blog, or what?
I likely sounded like an ass when I invoked a logical fallacy. If it seemed condescending, then I apologize. Still, I'm determined to confront illogic when it appears to be dangerous, as in discussions of race.
Anyway, thanks to those who complimented my post, and thanks to our beloved blogger for writing so well of his encounter that it gave us so clear an issue to talk about.
Burke: Enough with the nonsense. What are you trying to say? It's uncomfortable calling you an ass when you seem to be trying so hard. Shooting a handicapped child with a water pistol comes to mind.
Anon 8:22, I appreciate your concern about my dirty neck, but here is the rest of the photo and the explanation. Hope it works for you. Just look at all those dark people!!!

Funny, I could call out some folks from twitter based on vernacular. But, I tend to not stir the tea party; and they call themselves liberals.
Hey Paul, is that neck....
purty
red
or just a neck?
KK, it is incredibly red. And proud.
