He worked for and possibly was a co-founder of MS Litigation Services and now works for Smith and Carson (that's close if not the exact name), which is a nationally operated private investigation firm. He works in computer data base/matrix building support for class action lawsuits. I think their office is still on North Congress St. in Jackson. I hope the guy gets kidnapped in Simpson County and gang raped Deliverance style by some toothless locals and left for dead bleeding in a hog lot.

I agree 7:24, he has done a complete turnaround. i have known him for many,many years. He has a wonderful family but he has made some bad decisions in life that he never had to pay for due to him always being bailed out. Not at all defending him, but people can change and need to be forgiven as we Christians believe. As for registering as a sex offender, he never had to because he plead guilty to cyberstalking..which at the time he was convicted you were not required register. I think he has paid dearly,with all the media and attention, without spending a night in jail.

The 'church' is full of ministerial types who have found solace, acceptance and a hiding place in which to pretend their behaviors have changed.

Desperate people do desperate things. A few leave the country. Some rush to rehab. Others claim salvation. Still others grab a collar and slap it on when a rope would do just fine.

I think it is very important to read the chat as difficult as it is. If you are afraid to read it, here's a synopsis.

It is clear the girl is 13. It is clear she is a virgin. He wants more photos. He tells her how sexy looking she is. As the chat relationship develops, he wants her on the pill so he can have unprotected sex. He instructs her and reassures her as she makes remarks that clearly indicate ignorance about sex. He asks many questions about when she is certain to be alone. He tells her over and over how " hot" and "sexy" she is and that he is going to make her feel wonderful.

A visit is arranged eventually and thank goodness, a camera crew and officers are waiting and " charro" wasn't really a 13 yr old virgin.

It would be helpful if those who stalk and/or molest children were ugly, didn't go to church, volunteer in community affairs,lacked social graces and didn't come from respectable families. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Priests, coaches, ministers, and scout leaders are some of the occupations favored by sexual predators.

All parents need to understand that your child is more at risk of sexual molestation from a family member, family friend or trusted acquaintance than from a stranger.

There are often long periods of time between the first time a predator is accused of molestation and the second time. It is not usually that there were no other instances of molestation in between ( though some predators may be able to resist for months and years initially and then escalate over time) but rather that the predator wasn't caught and the victim didn't tell. Victims can wait decades to tell.

If you have children and grandchildren you need to stop being naive and educate yourselves. Yes, it's disgusting information and will make you uncomfortable,but it will help you recognize warning signs and instruct you on how to appropriately give your children needed information without frightening them.

Don't bother the 'good parents' 8:26. They already have it under control and, besides, their kids are too young to be on a computer or have a cell phone.

I have a young child, but even I am smart enough to know that they can have access to the computer...Kids nowadays are WAY smarter than we were when we were their age. It isn't about being naive- you just have to be prepared.
Does no one watch the dateline shows on this- "to catch a Predator"? They set up scumbags who get off on stalking young kids with the intent to have sex with them. Once they show up to the house to "just meet the child...not have sex with her/him", they are immediately arrested.

My 5 year old has a DS. We set it up for WIFI to download games....imagine my surprise when he ended up in some gamefreak chat room. He's 5. He can't read yet. I immediately disabled the WIFI.
The same with my cell phone. He was innocently playing a game on it and unbeknownst to me, he ended up on the internet and was just downloading all sorts of fun stuff. SO, once again, it was my fault for being so "naive" because of his age.
Stop blaimg each other and using the naive card. Just get more involved with your children. They are SO much smarter than we give them credit for- especially when it comes to technology.
You child proof your home when you have children, so childproof your gadgets...anything that can access the internet- phone, computers, Nook, Kindle...all of it.
After that, educate your child. Yes it sucks to try and explain how people can be so mean and sick, but they have to be prepared...and as parents, it is our job to educate them.
It also doesn't hurt to ask the parents of their friends what they have access to regarding electronics. All you can do is educate your child as much as possible and hope they make the right decision when they aren't around you.

I am proud to call Doug a friend - from both before and after this incident. I was shocked at his crimes (plural because apparently he tried the same thing in a Hattiesburg sting). At the time I was in favor of strong punishment for him and it would have been appropriate; but the law wasn't strong enough to punish the crime as it should have been able to. I don't know if the legislature has since corrected this flaw.

All of this being said, he really is a changed person. He is a follower of God and a humble and contrite leader. He understands and is ashamed by his crimes; and is grateful for the opportunity to humbly serve the Lord and attempt to continue to redeem himself.

I understand those who think he cannot be rehabilitated. But I sincerely believe he has been.

It is important to note that as far as we know, there were no actual victims. I hope this is in fact the case.

But I reamined Doug's friend before, immediately after, and now. Even when I thought he should be locked up for good.

Unfortunately,we cannot know what is in a person's heart or mind and many use YOUR religious beliefs and loyalty as a shield to further their self-interest . You end up enabling though I know that is not your intent.

My religious beliefs require not just acknowledgement of sin and declaration of faith, but also atonement and I am allowed to remain skeptical until I am satisfied the sinner demonstates they will sin no more . I'm allowed to use my brain to understand signs of true change. A decade of happy marriage to an age appropriate, well adjusted spouse would be a good sign. Starting over in a location where there is no protection from consequences would be a good sign.Not only accepting but WANTING consequences is a good sign. You don't mention years of therapy/drug rehab , etc. necessary to overcome the lack of boundaries that chat indicated.

The statistical history of change in those with these behaviors is not good even with extensive therapy and many of the re-offenders claimed new found faith to mask their behavior.

I can love a friend and not believe that he deserves less punishment than fits his crime.

Miss. AG knew of governor's pardons

The state attorney general's office was involved in getting pardons approved by former Gov. Haley Barbour but has hidden its involvement in the process, according to an attorney for four of the former inmate trusties who received a pardon.

Tom Fortner, a former Hinds County public defender, has asked a Hinds County Circuit Court judge to disqualify Attorney General Jim Hood from a lawsuit seeking to overturn some of Barbour's reprieves.

"This entire conflict has been created by the attorney general's office, not the governor's office," Fortner said. "Now (a judge) is being asked to clean up his mess."

Along with his motions, Fortner provided evidence that Assistant Attorney General David Scott, assigned to represent the Mississippi Department of Corrections, gave legal advice regarding how to publish pardon notifications for the former trusties and then agreed to the responsibility of running the notifications himself.
Fortner claims that Scott exchanged text messages with Daryl Neely, Barbour's policy adviser. He says the messages show Neely asked Scott to place the notifications for former mansion trusties in various newspapers, and Scott agreed.

In an emailed statement to The Associated Press, Hood spokeswoman Jan Schaeffer would not say Sunday if the attorney general's office gave advice or participated in the notification process.

"Mr. Fortner's last minute motions boil down to nothing more than an attempt by these convicts to say the Governor is above the law. These allegations have absolutely no merit and we will argue them in court at the proper time," the statement said.
