Open thread for election night.

Here ya go. Your election night open threat. My predictions: Phil gets 57%, Lynn gets 57%, Hood gets 56%. Hall ekes out one over Crisler by four points. Denny beats Carson by six. I think the Republicans in Ridgeland will buffer the Democrats in Northeast Jackson. Local races? I think John Dennery ekes one out. Me? I get my butt kicked but that's ok. Amendments: Voter Id and Eminent Domain passes. Personhood? Wins by 8.

Here are precinct totals taken from NE Jackson and Belhaven today. Started at 2:00, PM, ended at 4:00. Added times where I remembered, just add five minutes as a rule of thumb for the amount of time it takes to get from one precinct to another.

#78 (Asc. Lutheran): 383
Christ United : 1144
St. Phillips: 778
New Jerusalem: 539
Willie Morris: 760
#79 (Ridgewood Fire Station): 476
Mcleoud Elementary: 352
Spann: 727
Casey: 352
#32 (Lakeland Fire Station): 410 at 3:30
McWillie Elementary: 370 at 3:35
#9 (Belhaven College): 500 at 4:00
#1 (Eudora Welty): 256

Oh, and New Hope gave 66 votes to Dennery and over 1,300 to Graham. Tougaloo was 743 for Graham, 24 votes for Dennery. I predict Willie Morris, Spann, and St. Phillips will go over 1,000 and it would not surprise me it Christ United Methodist was near 2,000 or over.

Good luck on the Judgeship race Kingfish !

BTW, I just glanced at the website of a local
"progressive" free Frondren circular that does a fantastic job of listing the metro area's weekly
entertainment gigs .

It seems to me that their main most editor might have a
secret crush on you.

Statewides going according to expectations. 29% of the vote in Dennery has 1713 votes, 44% and Graham 2210, 56%. I know Graham cleaned house at Tougaloo, New Hope, and Callaway, roughly 3,000 votes to 100 or so.

The No on 26 party is in Fondren (where else?) Locals need to watch out for celebrating hipsters driving Priuses under the influence of locoweed tonight.

Funny how the AP called 26 failed with 57% against, but refused to call 27 and 31 won with higher percentages (same # precincts reporting). Bias showing much?

Here's a question: will all the people who have lionized ministers, Christians and other pro-lifers who expressed doubts about 26 return to their nasty, sneering, hate-filled rhetoric tomorrow after they've used said folks for their selfish end?

KaptKangaroo said...

Yes, Anderson, I'm talking about you.

Still haven't called Voter ID with 62%, but called Personhood defeated with 58% against.

It is a fair question Elizabeth.

Reed said...

Thanks, Elizabeth. I believe your insult devoid of any substance has answered my question succinctly.

10:23, I agree. I was against 26 until I started seeing who was lining up against it and how they were so disingenuously quoting Barbour, ministers, conservatives, etc. I just couldn't align with them. These are people who make a living smearing such people and express some of the most vile hatred toward people of faith. Yet, when it suited their end, they were using the same people, saying "you can be a pro-life and oppose this!" feigning an insincere respect.

Already we are seeing snide responses and name-calling toward the proponents (see Elizabeth's eloquence above) as these folks shed their ruse. Expect it to be far worse over the next two days.

The corruption that the black community in Jackson is willing to live with and embrace is staggering. No amount of rebranding and marketing hype will ever undo the damage that a fraud like Robert Graham has done to the little integrity that remains in Hinds County government. Along with a DA and AG that look the other way you can kiss Hinds and Jackson goodbye.

KaptKangaroo said...

I"m going to go out on a limb here with 26.

I do believe that the buggler-esque crowd fell victim to the juxta-positioning of evangelicals. However, there is a more sinister problem.

They were not even aware that the right, even the far right, were on their side.

Haley said it best tonight in his interview. There was a contingency from Colorado that attempted to usurp Mississippi's political process. I mean, really think about this; it was a Constitutional Amendment. It wasn't a pick up the shit in your front yard ordinance. It was a fundamental change to the foundation of how we conduct ourselves as citizens in this state.

Every Mississippian should have been against a yahoo from Colorado attempting to undermine our great state.

With that said, the sinister attempt by the media, especially hyper-locally was certainly disturbing. Those who were sheepish in getting out the vote were at least able to speak up. The rest of us were left wondering, why is this such an issue? We are able to entertain all ideas, to shove it down our throats is a different story.

And for Shadow, HIPPA comment was meant to say, "Leave the medical matters to the privacy of a person and their doctor." Nothing more, nothing less.

Anonymous said...

I not surprised they keep electing these criminals in Hinds County, these folks are crazy.

Ironghost said...

The Hall/Crisler race had me worried there early.

Anonymous said...

Eminent Domain slam dunk. Leland Speed can kiss our collective behind. We are the 73% and we would rather protect the rights of property owners than destroy basic American liberty for the sake of a few hundred jobs.

Haley talks about what a great state Mississippi is, but it's like he doesn't get that it's not acres of car factories and other industrial installations that make this place great. I'm all for jobs and industry, but not at the expense of the rights of property and ownership. In fact, it is the legion of my fellow citizens, like minded in such protection that makes MS great. If I want to live in a place where rights are trampled on to benefit government, I'll move to DC or New York.

Hey Leland! Use some of your millions to buy the land for the next car plant and sell it to the company for a profit. THAT'S capitalism, not using the muscle of government to shake down little guys and steal their land. Remember the story Nathan told David about the man with one sheep.

Eh? WLBT.com really had the numbers backwards for a sec. I was sufficiently pleased that I posted congrats to KF on my own blog. Then I clicked back a little later and found them transposed.

My apologies to KF for the error, but it wasn't my mistake, it was WLBT's website's. I'm very sorry KF lost. Would've voted for him had I been in that district.

Kangaroo: You're prognostication and recap skills are somewhere under those of Matt Friedman's while your humor is just a notch under that of noted comedian Bennett Malone.

Everybody wants to be Rick Cleveland it seems, calling the obvious on Monday mornings while using nutty cliches.

As to your HIPAA reference; matters of cloning, conception, fertilization and abortion cannot be swept under that rug. Did you really intend to suggest that we have no right or need to discuss conception since it involves personal health information?

Had Luckett prevailed over Dupree, the election results would be one helluva lot different. The outcomes in most cases would be the same, but they would not be nearly as close. When somebody named Tracella Hill can garner 20% of the vote for Lt. Governor, that can be owed to nothing more than democrats turning out to vote for Dupree. Sad that eventually elective office in this state (at every level) will be determined not by the content of a person's resume, but the color of his skin (with apologies to MLK).

Anderson said...

Well, Anon, I voted for Ms. Hill (whoever she is) because I'm a Democrat and wanted to vote against Tate Reeves, not because I thought she would win or because I was "turning out to vote for Dupree."

So perhaps your understanding of your opponents' psychology could use some work.

Anonymous said...

Can the absentee ballots make a difference if Dennery doesn't concede?

Anonymous said...

6:50...4:20 anon here. Thank you for proving my point. Voting for a person, whether or not he/she can win or even understanding the dynamic of that ~ is the very point. The dems that turned out simply to vote for Dupree (because he was on the ballot and is black) are the very ones, like you (whether black or white) who also just so happened to vote for Cruella, I mean Tracella simply because she is either black or democrat or both. You even admit to having no idea who she is. Again, thank you for driving home my pernt.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices.
