"Hygiene Education Program" - better known as potty training. Perhaps the purveyors of corporate greed at Babies R Us can bow to the demands of this integral part of the Smith Park community by donating some Pampers (Size XXL).
There are people who don't use good hygiene because they have mental problems. But, there are also those who do not have access to running water or to toilet facilities. Some are born into situations where they have never used or seen things we take for granted.
Such people are not welcomed at public facilities.Places, including Sec 8, do not want to rent to these people.
These people are not employable in their present condition. SOME might become employable with a great deal of help.
We don't have adequate charitable groups to give that help and we don't want to do it with tax dollars.
I don't want the homeless, the mentally ill, the addicted or the mentally challenged begging on the street or camping out on the streets any more than anyone else does.
But, I don't know what exactly those who want to get rid of them want to do with them. What is the plan?
I'd be happy to spend welfare monies on shelters and life skill programs and training instead.
But if anyone thinks just stopping " entitlements" is going to make this problem go away, I've a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
