Mark doesn't have a prayer of winning. But it's a good ad. And if you wonder whether it is, look at the howling going on at the Daily Worker:

Hey, Fondrenites: Know how you can avoid being so mortified? Build your own movie theater. Put that on your list, right after Kaze's re-branding campaign.
So, let's make a list:
1. Cover up crime, err, report on the bogus crimes manufactured by evil white people;
2. Re-brand the city under Kaze's guidance; and
3. Build your own freaking movie theater. (Hope you don't mind a lot of really loud talking during films.)
------
PS
Sandridge, the darkest of horses, is getting exactly what he wants from the tards at JFP.
it'll sell....
That's right from Toby's playbook. I've heard him (Toby) say as much many times when addressing homeowner groups. And guess what? It works.
And is there anything factually inaccurate in the ad?
/rhetorical/
good point J.Kev. Think about what is said in the ad. Is any of it untrue? Is it false advertising? Statistically Jackson is burdened with crime. Statistically Madison County has good schools, good neighborhoods, and low crime.
The ad says the candidate intends to keep Jackson as one of the most violent communities in the nation.... Wonderful.
8:10 --
No. The candidate says he intends to keep Madison County from being turned into a sewer.
the gnashing of teeth going on about this ad at the Fondren Bugler is truly heart warming
Sheriff Campaign Contribution pimps crime and (wink, wink) cold sweats about black criminals to Ward 1 whiteys all the time. Twitterwell played on crime anxieties in his campaign only months ago.
Truth in political advertising is little more than a bullet point on the long list of progressive myths and fables.
9:09, I watched the ad more than once and never saw or heard anything about black or white. This isn't about race. It's about crime.
Funny how JFP people think that the only people who live Madison are only high-priced lawyers, doctors and business people. I live in Madison, and I drive a school bus. Mark is telling the truth just like every cop, and Judge here in Madison County.
Kamikaze he needs to stay away from Mississippi Road ETV. Let the real movie producers film the show. Kamikaze needs to stay in Jackson and interview crackheads.
apparently Malco is pulling the ad.
Word on the street is Fondren homeowners will meet with representatives from the city tonight. The topic?
The "community garden."
I'm not joking.
Thugs rumble in the pretty new park, and what's on the JFPers' minds? A compost forum, apparently.
Fiddling while Rome smolders.
It's a great ad, but I can't blame Malco for pulling it. They probably don't want to annoy the portion of their paying customers who come from Jackson to watch a movie.
Even Magic Johnson didn't want to try to open a business in Jackson when he was busy opening movie theaters to try to stimulate the economy in predominantly black towns and neighborhoods.
Mark Sandridge is a good man. He makes everyone around him feel safe. Those in neiboring counties who feel embarrassed by the factual info in the add need need to contact their leadership and ask them to work harder at correcting the problems.
11.38
a garden, seriously? while they are at it dam up that little creek in fondren and call it a community water park. surely nothing untoward would happen--
Real quality racism dripping from the comment section around these parts.
I know I speak for my brother in saying, the free press regarding this ad is appreciated. I would challenge anyone to dispute it's validity. The Clarion-Ledger reported just a few months ago about the number of families leaving Jackson for Madison and Rankin counties. Those of us who are raising our families in Madison county, including Mark and I, want to keep our county safe and prosperous. I think he has a good chance of winning because that's not just a message on an ad...it's a sincere passion Mark has for Families in Madison County.
If a statement is true, can it still be racist?
2:12 --
Give two examples of racism in this thread.
2:37
That's fine, but why does it have to be a competition? Why do the folks in Madison have to make it about "us vs. them?"
It doesn't help Madison to be safe and prosperous, by writing off Jackson as a hopeless criminal wasteland.
2:12
Your condescending comment is par for the course for all the libtards that frequent this site. Refute the facts. Show where any of this is inaccurate. Otherwise, quit feeling so superior, asshole.
J. Kev, look no further than your very first post.
3. Build your own freaking movie theater. (Hope you don't mind a lot of really loud talking during films.)
That's two racist comments within one numeral!
This ad is ultimately speaking the truth. The stats don't
lie. I personally spent 23 years living in Jackson and now reside in Madison. Its not a competition, its the place I want to raise my family because of the safety. I personally know Mark Sandridge and I can promise you that his morals and ethics will never be compromised. The truth hurts doesnt it?
I don't know about you but I bet a catfish taco with Asian slaw served out of a Jeff Good approved food truck to a few gang-bangers would go a long way to improve race relations in Fondren. Only ten months to the next SPQ-JG-VF!!!!!!!
The people who see it as a 'competition' are the remaining few in Jackson. It is part of their modus to blame the woes of the 'capital city' on anyone and everything other than decades of inaction by Jackson's elected leadership to fix crime and an abjectly broken public school system.
Sorry 3:49, but if that ad doesn't come off to you as "us vs. them," then you're blind.
I love this ad !!
Ol' Donnas got her panties in a wad about it. What a F__G surprise.
One things for sure, she didn't have to worry about seeing it in a Jackson theater becuse there aren't any!!!!!
I guess Malco will have to offer a FREE pass for the next "Shaft" sequel to make amends!!!
I wonder if ole Donner-k put lil' 2:12 in "intern time out" when she noticed he was on JJ instead of working on the latest earth shattering investigative followup about MPB funding and a connection to the KKK.
" a catfish taco with Asian slaw served out of a Jeff Good approved food truck " ...... that was a good one !
3:02 --
Still not seeing it. How was that 'racist'?

To Todd and 3:09, I have no doubt as to Mark's sincerity, morality and ethics. Unfortunately for Mark, it takes more than that to be a good Sheriff.
Mark's problem is his less-than-average capacity for intelligent, logical thought. Sincerity and morality will never compensate for being dim.
Sandridge is by far the least qualified candidate for Sheriff. Madison County has 3 very experienced lawmen running for Sheriff. Mark Sandridge just isn't one of them.
That's an awesome t.v. ad. Whoever wrote it is an advertising genius. I live in Madison County, and it makes me want to vote for Mark Sandridge. I don't know all the candidates, but I bet Sandridge will have a good chance after all the publicity he is getting from this ad controversy. I received the YouTube link to the ad from 2 people in mass emails today. At this point, the other candidates are just a name on a paper yard sign in my mind.
BTW - Nothing against Jackson. Some of the greatest cities in the country have bad crime problems (i.e., New Orleans, San. Fran., etc.). I wish people in Jackson could elect better leaders.
I had never heard of Mark Sandridge until the JFP went into uncontrollable hemorrhaging over what is a very effective political ad. Now I'm going to seriously review Sandridge's qualifications.
Win or loose, Sandridge should seriously consider expressing his gratitude to The Blackmons, Donna & Todd, Ronnie Mott and the rest for a tremendous
amount of free publicity.
3:02 how is {really loud talking during films} racist. That word means nothing. What if you wisper during films does that mean you're not racist???? What if you don't talk at all during films does that mean you're a bigot....Geez...Time for you to go to Whitfield...Oh, wait thats racist too...I'm sorry...
3:44 don't pick on Jeff Good atleast he is trying to make Jackson a better place bless his heart...By the way, if people are eating catfist tacos in Jackson no wonder the sewer system in poor shape...I know my bowels would be after I ate that yeeks..
3. Build your own freaking movie theater. (Hope you don't mind a lot of really loud talking during films.)
Was J. Kev talking about black people in the second comment? If so, that implies that he believes white people behave according to his standards in movie theaters, while black people don't.
And if he was, in fact, talking about black people in the second comment, that implies he was talking about black people in the first comment, when he told black people to build their own freaking movie theater.
Do we need to discuss why proposing racially segregated movie theaters would be considered racist?
Damn. The JFP is still bleeding profusely over Sandridge's potential ADDY award winner.
Kaz and Donna are now in an albeit nice "food fight".
Hell,Donna is now babbling incoherent crap about Gandhi and MLK.
She's even insulting the 3 or 4 remaining people that she permits to comment on the "Pravda:Fondren Edition".
Go get em' Sandrige ! I can't wait for your next ad .
9:03...You must be the racist for interpreting what you think the person was trying to imply.
I think this commercial is hilarious. I wish Mark all the luck in the world, but he has surely struck a cord. Hell it took the City of Jackson 10 years and government aid for them to figure out there was a great white flight. How long do you think it will take for the City of Jackson to do anything about their crime?
Interestingly, Mark's dad was a higher-up years ago at the Cirlot Agency. In fact, Mark worked in advertising before law enforcement.
I may have to re-evaluate my handicapping of this race.
"Shaft" movies at the Jackson Mall Cinema were very lucrative back in the 70's.
They made the owners of that "diverse community" movie theater a hell of allot more money than the current Edward St. Pe homemade VCR films shown at the planetarium .
Malco hosts that goofy Indy filmfest for one reason.... ...MONEY.
I wish Donna Ladd understood remedial capitalism.
9:03 --
My comments were directed at Donna Ladd. Is she black?
I don't know any of the other candidates running for this post, but I do know Mark. I watched he and his brothers and sisters grow up. All into fine women and men, mothers and fathers, and good, caring citizens. Mark is educated and passionate about what he does. He always has been. If you live in Madison County, I urge you to take a hard look at Mark Sandridge. You will never have a more honest and committed man for this job. A breath of fresh air and honesty in this position. This guy that was on WAPT tonight...I say WAKE UP and look around (and listen...to the sirens going off during your interview and the story that preceded you about the MURDER in Jackson!). Mark told the truth and he's being attacked. Stick to your values, Mark. I'm proud of you. Good luck!
To May 10th 9:32pm: Check your facts before you post. Mark's dad was never with Cirlot Agency. He was President/CEO of Maris, West & Baker. I guess you could call that a "higher up".
3:44 - "Only ten months to the next SPQ-JG-VF!!!!!!!" Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know if or how much the SPQ finally donated to Batson Children's Hospital after their wing-ding?
I cannot thank you enough for the brief respite from the absolute bullshit that is printed outside this news blog.
It allows me to actually read, think and really take in the issues.
In this case, I have to say what a great ad. It stirred controversy. It even got the brain-dead to wake up.
So, as a communist, I'm against it, but as a Capitalist and as a Campaign Manager that wants to win - great job!
On the other hand, I originally thought...what? Another drunk driver in Madison and this Sheriff is going to get serious before someone gets hit and left in a home? Then I thought, he would never lever the Jell-O gal incident. Then when it was over I was relieved, yep, Jackson sucks. Thank heaven that was the message!
Whatever, I'm sure he just bought cheap air time across Madison.
I will say I was surprised by a movie theatre participating in political ads. From my personal experience, that is a great big no-no.
10:34 --
My bad. I mixed up the 2 big ad agencies in Jackson. A thousand pardons.
I got it from the candidate's mouth about 6 years ago. Forgive my trying to traffic in false information.
Anything else you find objectionable, Mr./Ms. No Name?
"The ad says the candidate intends to keep Jackson as one of the most violent communities in the nation.... Wonderful."

Yes. The ad says one side of the county line is bad and violent and the other side is wonderful, and the candidate intends to keep it that way. He never said that he intends to keep only the good side that way.
You are correct. That crossed my mind when I saw it.
Todd, don't count on too much more free press. Y'all can always take the route Brad Harbour took. ;-)
Just plain horrific is what I call the ad. It makes Jackson looks like a third world nation. Come on we all live in Jackson or its surrounding cities and towns. All big cities have its share of crime. What concerned me, and I am from Madison County, is that Mr. Sandridge did not tell me at all why I should vote for him. I looked at his website after this and although everyone says he is a great guy and all that, it appears he does not have the experience needed to run a large department like Madison County Sheriff's Department. Great guy alone does not qualify him to be Sheriff. From what I hear all the candidates are great guys, but only a few in my opinion have the experience needed. And this ad, no one wants to hear how bad Jackson is, we want here your qualifications, your experience and what you can do for us as the next Sheriff. And yes Madison County does have to play well with its surrounding counterparts. Attitudes like in this ad, do not set the stage for that.
I live and work in Fondren and despise the JFP. Not everyone here is funky and those of us who love Fondren, love it for the sense of community, values and convenience. Please don't place everyone in Fondren in the same bucket. I have never had an incident at my home or business in Fondren and I appreciate my neighbors looking after me. I also own property in Madison!
Deputy Sandridge simply stated a fact(out of 198 US cities with a population from 100,000-499,000 Jackson Ms. ranks in the top 10 as most dangerous to live in) then he made a promise to the people of Madison Co. "My number one priority
as Sheriff will be leading a round-the-clock effort to keep criminals out of our county, before they can commit crimes in our county."
As a matter of fact he is already doing what he is promising to do.
Anon 9:49 --
(Fill in third world country here) called, demanding a retraction.
It is a shame that Malco pulled the advertisement of Mark Sandridge! It seems like Malco would want to support and promote safety for the county their theatre is located in. Notice the theatre was built in Madison County! Maybe it is because it is a much safer area!
I seems to me that he is speaking of crime. A certain group of people( CRIMINALS) . Therefore the only ones that should be upset are the criminals. All he is saying is that he intends to hold up a great standard of no tolerance of crime in Madison County. Take your thuggish, criminal ways to some other county. All this other crap on here is people bashing other peoples comments. GOOD LUCK MARK
I won't vote for Mark Sandridge and here is why. Candidates for Sheriff should obey the law. Sandridge's large signs (the ones mounted on multiple 4x4 or 2x4 posts) are continuously placed in the road right-of-way, which is a violation of law. The other candidates have been careful to avoid this. Sandridge obviously doesn't know or care. I will pick between Houston, Harbour, and Tucker (probably Harbour).
If it is all about signs for you let me suggest you stay home and not vote. Every single candidate has signs in the right-of-way somewhere in this county.
And Quentin Whitwell called the ad racist. Somebody should slap that mealy-mouthed little douchebag.
Twitterwell has quickly joined the C-L's stable of cheap and easy comment tricks along with Matt Steffey, Steve Rozman and Ben Allen. Like Obama, nobody listens to any of them anymore.
That is LAME! If a large sign is "breaking the law" to you then you need to go back to little house on a prairie.
And why must EVERYTHING be about race? Why can't people get past the color of someone's skin. The color of skin doesn't make the person evil or bad...Their empty souls make them bad. Quit playing the race card....please.
And, regarding the movie theater comment that SO got blown out of proportion....even Chris Rock (who is BLACK) jokes that black people talk loud in movie theaters.
BUT, so do children. So does that mean he is a Child hater too?
His movie theater comment had absolutely zero to do with race so stop turning it into something it isn't. I am so tired of all this racial bullshit talk. Why does EVERYTHING have to be about race???
Jackson has alot of good things going for it....and there are alot of people who will never leave it. I, for one, am not one of those people. I cannot WAIT to move back to Madison County this summer. I cannot WAIT to get out of Jackson. I don't feel safe in my own home anymore. All the doors stay locked during the day with the alarm set. Jackson has turned me into a paranoid, angry woman...who drives all the way to Madison Walmart and Kroger because I refuse to shop at ours. I don't wear my "good" jewelry unless I am with my husband because I don't want someone to snatch it off my neck. It is crazy that people have to live like this, but no one seems to be doing anything about it in Jackson. SO, people move out. Neighborhoods go to shit. Crime goes up.
The police force in Madison are nothing to mess with. Even being a careless teenager years ago (many years sadly enough) I was scared of the Madison police. People are scared of them. Not so much in Jackson. In Jackson, JPD is pretty much a joke. They would rather set up pathetic speedtraps on Newland to pull over people going 10 miles over the speed limit, than get their asses out there and stop people from robbing banks and mugging innocent people in broad daylight. Where were the cops the day my grandfather was beat in his front yard on Newland??? At 11am in the morning. Those thugs were never caught. But I would bet money someone going 40 past NEwland was surely given a ticket. It makes no sense.
I don't feel safe in my own home anymore. All the doors stay locked during the day with the alarm set.
Can't wait until the food trucks are out in the neighborhoods selling tacos, burritos and chit'lins.
Yes, it appears Whitwell has confirmed his status as a complete moron with his comments. Oh well, at least he fits in with Chuck and Big Ken. The comments on the Clarion Ledger are good for a few laughs if anyone has a little time to kill.
I have not seen anything out of the ordinary with the placement of mark sandridge's signs. The signs are located in the same spots as the rest of the candidates. With the exception of Jimmy Houston signs. I have only seen 4 little Jimmy Houston signs.
To the person complaining about mark sandridge's signs, you seem to be a brad harbour supporter. It was probably your idea to put the brad harbour signs on the "tacky" trailers!
The JFP crowd is freaking out over the phrase, "keep criminals out of our county, before they can commit crimes in our county."
They seem to think that this amounts to some kind of pre-crime racial profiling, instead of taking the reasonable view that the important phrase is in our county.
Thus, it's simply a matter of diligent policing of current criminals and preventing crimes in Madison County, rather than racial profiling and trying to predict who will commit crimes before they commit them.
apparently none of you have been to the Grandview Theatre on a Saturday night.... very very scary,,, I felt like I was in jail with all the police lights, and what was going on around me!
the us vs them.. is just jealous Madison people who can't stand the fact that yes (most Doctors and lawyers live in Jackson, not Madison) and North East Jackson has a lot of money, and we choose to stay in Jackson and not go to cookie tree houses in Madison! They should just get over themselves, and quit saying ugly things about Jackson.
All of us in Jackson could move and live anywhere we wanted in Madison, and we choose not to, because we love Jackson and the character of our homes. People have always been jealous of "North East Jackson," and just because they can't fit in!
What are "cookie tree houses"? Is that where the Keebler Elves live?
i live in jackson... and why has there been relatively zero coverage about the eddie fair/tyrone lewis incident...
