Charles Barbour withdrew from the Republican primary for Central District Public Service Commissioner and filed qualifying papers for Senate District #25. The seat is currently held by Walter Michel, who recently announced he will not run for re-election this year.
Meanwhile former Governor Barbour lawyer Joe Nosef wrote on his Facebook page today:
Interesting.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Another dynamic politician.
Charles will never vote for a tax increase; not one time
Nosef learned quickly that any bid on his part would be DOA.
why does this gasbag keep doing this to us. go home.
How anyone ever met Charles Barbour who came away impressed?
Please someone, anyone, run against this slug.
Say what you will at least Barbour is making the run. More than you can say for those who only kick the tires.
Also rumored: Rita Martinson, Cory Wilson, Ben Allen
Let me see, Hinds County started the practice of borrowing against the E-911 fund while he was on the Board. Easy to say no tax increase when you kept robbing the E-911 fund every year and by the way, we still don't have E-911. Even the counties in the Delta have it now.
Or voted in 2006 to approve interest rate swaps on some bonds and give Malachi/Porter Bingham a nice chunk of change. Easy to say no new taxes when playing with the funny money, oops, I meant interest rate swaps.
If those type of legislative sleights are key then rule out Ben Allen too.
Joe Nosef lives in Hinds County. He probably was worried Madison County voters would choose one of their own over him.
As for Cory Wilson... Hmmm. An evangelical Christian who graduated from Yale Law School. He must be the only one of those in the entire coutry.
Cory lives in Madison County but hasn't lived there for very long (I'm told he moved there shortly after his election loss to Rep. Cecil Brown). I wonder if Madison County will adopt him as one of its own so quickly????
Another prospective candidate is Dan Grimmett. See http://dangrimmett.crye-leike.com/about.php He has great people skills but not much prior political activism. I'm not sure how conservative Catholic Dan is.
I know Charles personally and he's a guy who isn't afraid of a fight against bigger gov't. He was the one on the board of supervisor who always fought against those morons. Also, I believe he recently retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel. He'd be great in the senate.
11:01- Hi Dan.
11:02- Hi Charles.
Charles also isn't afraid to use family connections to land large government contracts for his wife's business.
The best candidate for that seat is Rita Martinson. She is an effective House member against strong odds and is prepared to be a good Senator.
John Dennery. And I'm serious.
11:42...Hi Charles, Hi Dan...Last week, "Hi Joe"...Attempting to call out other posters anonymously, what a clown....
Rita Martinson needs to stay put or retire. She's not that effective.
Let's recruit somebody dynamic. We need a fresh face for our Senator.
I have known Charles since the Reagan campaign of 1980 and he is a movement conservative. He has been in the fight. He will shake things up in the Senate, Some get upset with Charles because he will tell people no , Please vote for Charles Barbour. Thankyou, Tony Geiger
With due respect to my friend, Tony Geiger, it is my hope that a resident of Madison County wins this seat. Rep. Martinson is certainly pushing for it, but her bid would be contingent upon the lines being redrawn before the 2011 election. She is not currently within the district. Corey lives in a neighborhood off of Stribling Rd. (at least as I understand it) and would not be in the district after the new lines are implemented. So he'd either be running for one term or he'd be running and moving before the new lines are implemented. Neither sound attractive. I've heard John Taylor's name. I've only met him a couple of times, so no firm thoughts there (other than he was a nice guy). Brian Ramsey, who is an alderman in Ridgeland is running. Who knows who else is looking at the seat. I expect a few more Jacksonian candidates. If it is only Barbour, then those in Madison will need to coalesce behind a single candidate quickly.
For the record, Joe would have been a good candidate. I wonder if this wasn't a roundabout tip of the hat to Lynn Posey as a favor to the elder Barbour.
Hmmm. Rita doesn't live in the district yet - she can only be a candidate if new districts are approved as submitted on the Burton Plan. I'm not sure, but I don't think Cory's lived in the district for the required two years prior to the election. Further speculation on who in Madison County will be running should be postponed until we see which district lines are going to be used. Bill Billingsley
Rita Martinson has been very effective given her situation, being a GOP minority member of a Democrat majority House that is VERY partisan. Any ineffectiveness that can be laid at Rita's feet stems from her solid commitment to principle and lack of willingness to compromise on those principles.
An example of her effectiveness: during her freshman term, she led three other legislators and a group of concerned citizens in a very organized effort that raised the driving age from 15 to 16. There are other examples as well.
She has a business background and has strong community support in charity and GOP circles. She will get the business PAC money due to her House record.
She is from Madison Cty but will also receive the support of GOP Hinds legislators she serves/served with like Walter Michel, Bill Denny, Ken Stribling, etc. She will be hard for anyone to beat, if she runs.
I like Charles Barbour, Ben Allen, Cory Wilson, etc. as well as John Dennery, but they have an uphill battle if Rita Martinson runs.
Charles Barbour? No way. Someone else PLEASE get serious about this and run.
Tony, given your pimping up of Marshand Crisler, all your endorsement tells me is your guy is indeed an empty suit.
Interest rate swaps on debt, deals with Porter Bingham, no e911 but uses the money for no so-called tax increases, and improper lobbying contracts awarded.
OH WAIT TONY, that's right, Your firm got a lobbying contract from the Board back then. WHy don't you tell us how much money you got off of it?
Marshand Crisler was shot in the leg.
Is anyone else hearing Sidney Allen's name thrown around as a potential candidate?
Why in God's name would Sydney want that gig?
That makes no sense. He is a lobbyist. He'd have to give up his lobbying to run for office, and would have to give it up once he ran.
The only thing worse than Charles Barbour is Robert Graham.
I bet that Crisler is sick about this.
Spoke with someone close to Sidney and was told he is definitely interested. He has been encourages by several area businessmen and potential donors to at least take a look at it. Some young blood might do the place good.
Oh the kid Sidney. I thought you meant the Dad Sidney.
He'll have the endorsement of the Phoenix Club, and that is crucial.
The candidate must have the ear of the business people, the pulse of the electorate, the vision of the future, the heart of the common man, and be experienced at turning an organization around. Only one name comes to mind in Madison County.
And who might that be?
Tim Johnson
Will Longowitz.
(Kidding)
Seriously, why would anyone ever vote for Charles Barbour?
Mike Crook?
Gov. Barbour made sure Charles was not running against Lynn Posey, current Central District Public Service Commissioner, because Posey switched from Democrat to Republican and passed Gov. Barbour's Kemper County clean coal plant project through for his pals at Southern Company.
It is rumored that Ryan Smith, of Madison County, is considering running for the seat. He is the former Chairman of the Young Republicans and has worked on numerous campaigns. He is a dynamic person, with many years in various leadership positions in the business world, a community leader and youth coach. Most importantly he is not tied to any special interest or groups. I hope he does run. We need more leaders in government like Ryan. Real world experience with common sense approach. Run Ryan run!!!
9:28, surely you jest. Please, please tell me that you were joking about "Mike Crook"!!!!
Now really... would Mike Crook be any worse than those bozos we have now who cant event redistrict??
Memo to Ryan Smith: Your mother is on this blog (see 5:50 am)
12:21--Mike Crook would be worse than anything you've imagined in your darkest nightmare. Do you know him?
Longwitz is in, announced it on facebook
I'm glad to know Will has decided to run. He will make a great senator. His base is up in Madison County and he's also got people like Leland Speed in Northeast Jackson behind him.
Blah, blah, blah ... Leland Speed ... blah, blah, blah. Speed has lotsa green to contribute but that is it. He hasn't shown any ability get the political needle moving even in his own neighborhood.
Greetings to "Memo to Ryan Smith: Your mother is on this blog (see 5:50 am)".
This is Ryan Smith. I was made aware of this posting last night. Just for the record, I can assure you that my mother did not make this posting, but she found your comments quite funny! 1. that is way too early in the morning for her, 2. I love her, but she is not that computer savvy for blogging, 3. She would have written much more and exceeded the blogs limits, as this is what mothers do. However, who ever posted this; I would like to thank you for the kind words. They mean a lot to me!!! Lastly, I appreciate the compliment to my mother and her increased computer knowledge and for the record, yes, I am considering this run. Have a wonderful weekend and blessings to all, Ryan.
Not stating any opinion about the man or the politician.
BUT, anyone from Madison County thinking about running for this seat would be well advised to ask Bill Denny how to run for office in the NEJax precincts on a small budget and win.
that's easy, it's called shoe leather.
RE: 11:17 AM
Someone should have shared that wisdom with Roger Davis.
Um, I think the comment about your mom being on this site was a joke. ;-)
I agree Kingfish. It is completely hilarious. I just won't lend any credibility to someone's comments, funny or not, when it is done under "anonymous".
Have a nice day and thanks for your feedback.
Ryan
Will Longwitz is now running for Senate, less than 6 months after losing the Madison County Court Judge race, ALL WHILE HE OUT SPENT ALL THE REST OF THE CANDIDATES COMBINED AND HE WAS RUNNING IN HIS OWN BACKYARD. It appears that Will wants to be in any office that he will finally get elected to. If he could not win the Judge race with nearly $100,000.00, then maybe, just maybe, he is not the right person to be in any office!
What next, if Will does not win this election, is he going to run for Congress, Tax Collector, Mayor or the Presidency? There gets to a point when an individual appears that all he wants to do is be a life-long politician. In less than 6 months, Will seems to be trending right in that life-long politician direction.
well put, 3:11pm.
the same could be said for C. Barbour.
3:11 - that was my impression of him from the start, and it has only gotten more solid as time has progressed.
I'm going to give Will a bit of props. I've actually met him. He's a decent man, full of the same things we all celebrate; positive spirit, drive for better times, critical thinking, and of course hoping to pursue the American Dream.
The way the opposition commenters (read: well positioned comments to convince you otherwise) continue to drop droppings amazes me.
I'm not a Mad County Resident, but, if I was, Will would have my vote.
And FWIW, switching, in this case, looks opportunistic and demonstrates someone capitalizing on their name.
Politics aside, most voters remember the familiar name when they are pulling the lever.
Charles Barbour will not get elected for this Senate seat.
Besides, having to re-live the Alcatec FBI raid is not going to be favorable to Haley's future. I'm sure the press will be inquiring on the status/how the case simply vanished...
"They asked me to lie"
The word on the street is that Charles Barbour has not withdrawn from the Central District Public Service Commissioner race as of yet. Odd that he announced he is running for Senate Seat. FYI
