Update: What a surprise. No mention of this in the JFP coverage of the meeting yesterday. Also notice how Ms. Ladd takes issue in the comments with Mr. McGowan addressing the Board. How dare private citizens petition the government.
Fort Worth and other entities created the Trinity River Vision Project to solve its flood control problems. This project was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and can be studied in further detail on its website. The Levee Board met today and discussed the similarities between the challenges faced by both Fort Worth and Jackson. The board will travel to Texas to learn more about Trinity. More videos as well as a white paper on the project are available below. Well worth watching.

The Levee Board is USELESS. Jackson, Flowood, Pearl, Richland, Byram will experience another flood before before those clowns get ANYTHING accomplished.
That's "Fort" Worth (both places.
And we've made so many improvements since the 1979 Easter Flood. Oh, wait....
spot on. why can we not follow this example??
j.m., do a model!
Like that, "our heritage right there in the middle of the city"... oh I can see it now, its a conspiracy to clear out DT for the country folks. This is a great idea, unfortunately, you have a few that will disrupt this plan to no end and keep it in the same planning stage as it has been for over 30 years.
The Rankin-Hinds Pearl River Flood and Drainage Control District Levee Board -- as another poster alluded a serious misnomer since they do nothing but flap their collective gums -- now looks to have contracted a bad case of the dreaded Ben Allen syndrome.
They will now trek on our dime to a metropolitan area that has over 6.5 million people -- versus the barely 500,000 people in the Jackson metro area -- to study a river system that has multiple large (Pearl-river sized) forks that converge directly in and around (south) of the specific metro area.
No doubt the "Levee Board" will return -- like the Ben Allenites from their own sojourns to America's non-sequitur urban Meccas -- with delusions of grandeur whereby we'll be urged to pay for solutions "better than" what they saw during their pilgrimage at per capita incomes 50, 60, 75% less than those other sacred places.
Benallahu Akbar, Benallahu Akbar, Benallahu Akbar.
The Levee board does understand we don't have Fort Worth's problem, right?
The Levee Board is mostly hicks. Go one time to a meeting and watch.
That looks very nice. All we down stream ask is make sure that it does not make flooding on us even worse. Georgetown, Monticello, Columbia and the rest of the communities down stream deserve nothing less.
Oh GROW UP.
She's fearful, harpy and powerless.
It is amazing that the Fondren Bugle didn't even report on the Fort Worth project since there are so many comparisons from what I read in the white paper posted. Donna and her clan seem to be so obsessed with John McGowan and flood control on the Pearl River but still appear to be very, very lost and clearly do not understand what is going on over there.(The JFP has absolutely no vision past what can be subsidized by the federal gov.)
Good point KF, How dare private citizens petition the government?
What the hell is wrong with her?
"We The People" want a flood control lake, not new levees pushed down our throat by the Corps!
The "People" along with McGowan will never settle for less!
You say "amazing". They say "remarkable" as nauseum. "What is remarkable, what is remarkable yadayadayada"
LaddCo has vision. A narrow myopic tunnel vision to stop Two Lakes. She sees shadows of bad guys and conspirators around every corner scheming to build Two Lakes. She goes on and on about needing flood control right now, immediately, but only because the levees serve as the means to her end of stopping Two Lakes.
The indisputable truth is that LaddCo wasn't here during the floods. She knows nothing about what happened.
J.M. Save Us before it too late!
One little thing about Two Lakes and flood control. People really don't care about it. Every time I post something about it, it barely moves the traffic meter. If you go over to the JFP site, you will notice there will be few comments not written by her.
You're wrong. Some people do care. Some people want to see progress such as this. If the flooding situation remained the same, the benefit to the metro area would be worth it.
The Jackson Metro Area, collectively, are idiots. We expend more energy to fight and disparage positive things in the area and are more comfortable being divided than attempting to work together. We have nothing to be proud of, because, collectively, we don't support positive things because someone else might get credit or make money from it.
We are more worried about who will benefit directly instead of wondering if we all will benefit indirectly.
The reason why it appears that no one cares is because everyone with an idea gets shouted down by those who simply want to whine and complain instead of expending that energy on trying to see if it's actually a good idea. We allow the negative voices to shout down the positive voices.
One person's 'negative' voice is another person's voice of reason. Go preach your bullshit pollyanna sermon elsewhere. Disagreement doesn't make a person an idiot.
I was here for the Easter Flood of 1979. It was horrible. We better figure how to get beyond disagreement or face another mess.
There's been other plans on the table 11:06 like Shoccoe but nobody wants to pay for a solution.
What everyone should be asking is why the hell isn't the Levee Board moving forward with the levees and the vote to pay for same? They have the plan from the Corps. They have a price tag. What is the damn hold up?
Well I'll tell you. Ain't no way, no how that a vote for a big jack up in taxes to pay for those levees is going to pass. Every damn one of those mayors on that board knows it.
Let's pray another flood doesn't arrive before those morons find their way to a decision ... any decision. But should it flood again the people whose asses need to get kicked is every one of those mayors sitting on that do-nothing Levee Board.
One person's 'negative' voice is another person's voice of reason. Go preach your bullshit pollyanna sermon elsewhere. Disagreement doesn't make a person an idiot.
The only voice of reason is one based in reason, positive or negative.
Disagreement doesn't make a person an idiot, and I never stated that. But in your case it's apparent that the two can easily go hand in hand.
Hasn't this discussion been going on for over 30 years?
I really do believe creating lake frontage and the corresponding development is a great idea for the city.
Other than that, it is the same bickering that has been going on for years.
