JJ readers voted Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler their favorite mayor in the most recent poll. I expected her and Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee to make a race of it but once again, I was wrong. Although he was second, she more than doubled the number of votes he received. The surprise to me however, was the Canton Mayor. I picked him to come in dead last which shows how much I know. ;-)
Gene McGee | 96 (18%) |
Harvey Johnson | 40 (7%) |
Brad Rogers | 10 (1%) |
Gary Rhodes | 32 (6%) |
Mary Hawkins-Butler | 229 (44%) |
Truly Williams | 4 (0%) |
Bob Morris | 1 (0%) |
Rosemary Aultman | 50 (9%) |
Tim Coulter | 17 (3%) |
Mark Scarborough | 31 (6%) |

The Canton Mayor's name is Dr. William Truly, not Truly Williams.
VOMIT!
Who cares. Either way he still sucks!
Queen of the "lastest" poll? That means she's the bestest in the westest.
Mary is typical of most strong leaders. Either love them or hate them.
Many of the people who hate Mary haven't even met her but don't like her tactics or perceived “too much power.”
Others hate her due to jealously (especially NE Jackson residents dealing with rampant crime).
Some of the recent whiners pissed about smaller houses, apartments, etc. coming to their area were/are the same DA’s who don't want to be annexed (which is comical).
Can you say “cake and eat it too?”
I voted for Mary, but I do think Gene McGee is doing a great job. He has a lot to be proud of. Renaissance, Jackson Street, etc. Ridgeland is moving in the right direction.
