Ward 1 rumblings

Well, apparently some are banking on Weill assuming the bench next year. Hearing Quentin Whitwell, lobbyist extraordinaire and writer of all things whiskey, and Marcus Ward, Frank's little protege, are going to run. Am sure more will jump in.

SafeCity, 2008, SB2991.

Quentin Whitwell was one of SafeCity's lobbyists.

3:05, who cares. Of course we don't know who all will jump in, but he is sure as sh#! better than Ward.

3:56, nobody cares about your opinion either.

For those of you who don't know, Marcus Ward was Frank's little handyman. Was his lobbyist for Washington for a while and did whatever else Frank wanted.

3:05=3:56=you should look into getting a hobby.

I suggest a "Draft the Fish" movement. Where do you live, KF?

I've heard that he is thinking of running.

It frankly doesn't matter who the Councilperson is in Ward 1. The winner will be powerless. The last 3 people in the seat, including Weill, have delivered nothing but tax increases, greater bond indebtedness and giveaways for the downtown clique.

am thinking of running for Sheriff. If Toby can do this, why can't I? At least I never pimped out the police chief's position, the training academy, or did other things that other potential candidates with law enforcement experience have.

Considering the state of affairs you might be the most credible candidate KF.

Last year I tried to get a copy of the JET budget. The county called out to the Sheriff's office. No clue. Person who dealt with grants had quit and no one out there knew where any grant information was. Sound familiar?

B. Laurie Gillespie "lovie (greenville, ms)

This review is from: If By Whiskey (Hardcover)
I gave this book one star because there was not a space to give it NEGATIVE stars. This is by far the WORST book I have ever read. It is an insult to all of the women at Ole Miss, and particularly an insult to those who did not have sex (every night as the book implies.) It is an insult to the men, as well, particularly those that are not sexually promiscuous. It is an insult to the Daily Mississipian and to the student body government. The book also implies that everyone drinks constantly. I resent that. Of course, drinking goes on at all colleges and universities, but Mr. Whitwell, there are students who don't drink. Mr. Whitwell, the author, tried too hard to include everything about Oxford in this book. I grew up in Mississippi and have a son at Ole Miss now - in my opinion, you have disgraced the whole town and the whole university. What was your point???? A Nashvile singer was even included. I love to read - and people are always asking me for suggestions. My copy of If By Whiskey is going in the trash and I am telling everyone I can how poorly written it is - even if I didn't like the subject matter I can appreciate a well written book - this one is not. I hope this author is done - I am truly sorry that I fell for buying such a "trendy" book.

Is Whitwell planning to run as a Repub or as a Dem? He has claimed Repub in his last election defeat, but considering his support and appearing on a mail piece for Rep. Cecil Brown (D-Hinds), and his support for the reelection of Speaker McCoy, wondering which he will choose this time.

Whitwell is not from Jackson, and he has only lived there for a few years. He ran as a GOP in a state senate race in Oxford in either 1995 or 1999. For him to win Jackson's Ward 1, he will have to first get the big GOP supporters in NE Jxn (Mounger, Yerger, Furrh, Robbie Hughes, etc.) to lock in with him as their candidate. That stops the carpetbagger label. Also it would help if he had the NE Jxn political strategists like Michel, Stribling, Geiger, Hayes Dent, etc. who know that ward. Of course, it will also help to have Weill, who is likely to be a judge by then.

Damn 11:58. You write as if it really means something to be the representative from the Cash Cow Ward. I sure hope Whitwell kisses all those asses and receives all those blessings because he won't get anywhere near that kind of reception nor notoriety toiling in obscurity on the Jackson City Council.

Anonymous said...

If it doesn't mean anything 12:54, why do you sit around a computer all day posting rants about it?

Anonymous said...

12:54, it matters as much as any other small office would matter, be that as it may. It just happens to be the topic of discussion. Weill was generally affective when he was the "swing" vote of a divided council. Then he put all his eggs in one basket for mayor -- that of Marshand Crisler -- and now he is not as influental. that doesnt mean that a white GOP from NE Jxn representing Ward One will always be shut out. Plus, if Weill becomes a judge just a few years after being a political unknown, then there is something to be said about serving as the Ward One city councilman, even if you are not allowed at the table in city govt.

Maybe Ben Allen has recovered enough from his, ahem, er, you know, 'near stroke' to return.

We found you hiding, we found you lying
Choking on the dirt and sand
Your former glories and all the stories
Dragged and washed with eager hands

Why don't you run, Mr. Big Time?

Maybe Kingfish should run? Do you live in Ward 1 KF? Or does Uncle Ben Whitebread have you bent over that unfortunate barrel pounding you from behind?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
