Now its down to Ten Finalists in the Businesswoman's poll.

Well, the poll for top businesswoman in the Jackson area is over. It received the most votes out of any poll in JJ's history: 1156 votes. More than even the Hottest Reporter Poll. Susan Lunardini did very well but now she has to make it through the finals to win. I have whittled the results to ten finalists:

Susan Lunardini (Southern Consultants), Bridget McCart Tisdale (Easily Amused), Lisa Kirk/Heather Miller (Cups), Alexandra Wilkes/Leslie Decker (Alex & Lele), Pamela Hancock (Attorney), Jennifer Corson (Stages Magazine), Judy Lindsay (Beyond Therapy Group), Jessie Long/Amanda Quarles (Dirty Hippie Soaps), Suzanne Moak (Smoak Salon), Connie McCaa (Lasik Doctor). I'm in the middle of collecting bios so if any of the finalists want to send me a photo and a quick bio or description of their company, feel free to do so at kingfish1935@gmail.com.

I was a little surprised by the results as I thought Gail Pittman would garner more votes and Linda Graham would as well. Jill Conner Browne getting only six votes was a huge surprise to me as well. Here are the results.

Gail Pittman sold out and cost many people jobs. Jill Conner Browne has pissed off most of her followers with her latest shenanigans. Linda Graham? Who cares.

so i guess maybe they should have asked you or pelosi or obama or reid for permission to do what they wanted with their enterprises first?

I see no Feds in this list, and I can attest that I work my ass off everyday for the public. Thanks KF, for forgetting the women in government that work their asses off everyday. I can guarantee that the taxpayers get more than their moneys worth in my office.

total of 1156 votes cast.

clearly a popularity contest not a "best businesswoman contest".

contest should be renamed Most Popular Woman with a Business

You people take yourselves way too seriously.

Public employees are not businesswomen. They are employees of the government. Nothing wrong with that, it's just this poll is for women who started and run businesses of their own.

@ 7:00 pm:

No, simply stating why they didn't get more votes.

2:20, you are not a business person. You may be the most competent employee the government has ever seen, easily more competent that our current president of his cabinet, but you are still just an employee. You work for an organization that has no accountability. If you WEREN'T good at your job, you might lose it, but the department where you work would keep right on trucking.

So how do we judge best businesswoman?

Let me look at the financials for every such business in town? Me pick them off of the top of my head? Create a panel and accept nominations and have the panel decide? Poll? Every method I could have used would've been protested by someone. The poll is the best way in my mind.

By the way government employee, you already had your poll over at the MBJ and it covered government employees. You've never met a payroll, had to seek capital, worry about invoices being paid so you could buy inventory or pay employees, scrimped on groceries so you could honor employees contracts and pay them more than you make, cried at night when you worried at first you were going to ever get over the hump, or had your name, credit, and home on the line and wondered if you were nuts for doing so.

I am a female government employee and I see no problem not having govt. women in this poll.

A woman in government might have a great business mind, and be great at her government job, but that doesn't make her a businesswoman. I've been in government AND in small business and they are simply different.

As far as ways to evaluate the Top Ten -- I'd love to know the following about each:
- Entreprenureal creativity -- how did the business come about? Where did the idea come from?
- Start-Up -- how was the business started?
- Growth -- what kind of growth has the business seen under the nominee's leadership?
- Financials -- how involved is the nominee in managing the financials of the business -- is she reviewing the books and signing the checks, or does she leave that to someone else?
- Reach -- does the business reach a wide customer base? How does the nominee accomplish this?
- Quality -- any information rating the quality of the service/product provided by the nominee.

It would be nice to hear some other information. I don't know if it's fair, but I honestly will evaluate higher a woman who is both a mother and an involved businesswoman, simply because she's got more things to juggle. Of course, if anyone is concered about that sort of thing, personal info can be left out.

Government employee or not, I nominate 1:26.

Sorry about reading that differently.

JD, those can complicate a businesswoman's life, too, believe me.

I think a very important part of the equation is how civic minded are they. Do they serve on various boards and are they active in the community? Sometime, these ladies have risen above their company duties and are able to 'get out' into the public and be a force for change in the community. I'm sure some businesswomen are great as CEO's; but have little time for politics, civic groups and fundraising, outside of writing a check or attending a Jackson VIP/NS Sun photo op type event.

That said, how much a person makes or how much their company is worth has very little to do with how good of a CEO/Business person they are. Think about it. One company may pay one employee more than the whole payroll of another. That doesn't make them a better manager/owner.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that pretty much all of these comments are coming from women.

Pamela Hancock is a fine Madison Mississippi Family Law Attorney!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
