Karen Irby now in MDOC custody.

My only comment because the media frenzy will start soon enough:

Stuart wakes, has coffee and good breakfast, takes hot shower, dabs on after-shave and looks in the mirror....

Karen wakes, has coffee, takes public shower, combs through hair, looks at her image in distorted mirror and knows she has taken the first step in a thousand mile journey. One day to mark off...

Poor form. No comment necessary to this post.

On so many levels just so, so sad.

I can assure you Karen will not wake to a cup of coffee. I would imagine she will wake wondering why the nightmare hasn't passed with waking.

However, she committed the crime and her sentence is less than half the max, so before everyone goes off weepy for her, there are hundreds of Karens in that prison, no better and no worse, than her.

7:26 One thing is very obvious about you. When the good Lord was handing out compassion he sure skipped you.

Paul Mitchell said...

Agnew skewered her already today. Does Ronnie count as media?

Anonymous said...

7:59 yep, I guess that people that get drunk, kill innocent people, should just pay a fine.

I'm also sorry that you are evidently a weepy, stupid twit. Why don't you start a campaign to let all the pretty, white killers out of jail? there are plenty of female killers who got drunk, got high, got pissed, got whatever and lost their shit for less than twenty seconds and are now in prison for life for killing one husband, boyfriend, etc. Men too, and a few teenagers. Grow up.

Karen will have to toughen up in a hurry to get through prison. You can't show any weakness or vulnerability, or your co-inmates will tear you down quick.

Over the years I've known numerous women, three of them became good friends of mine, that did time at that same facility, and they all made that exact same statement.

The persona of a swooning, wounded socialite victimized by a rich, evil husband will not cut it in the CMCF. I am not trying to be ugly in the least about her, and I do hope that Karen quickly realizes how different life will be in prison than anything she ever knew and adjusts herself accordingly asap.

This is achingly painful and horrible for everyone involved. Well, except maybe Stuart.

Poor form. Must be a lot of new folks here.

Poor form towards commenters. KF simply posted the end result.

I hope Karen can get some counseling in prison for victims of domestic violence. She must be blaming herself for not having left such a tumultuous marriage, but then again, in Stuart's own handwriting, he told Judge Green how much he "loved" his wife. The masses have been quick to judge Karen since the tragedy, blaming it all on her. I certainly hope her children are in a safe place with people that love and discipline out of love, and not control. The Bible tells us "judge not, lest you be judged." I hope all the people who have demonized Karen as the sole culprit in this tragedy can open their eyes that he may share the blame. Karen, I am sure, will be praying for the rest of her life that God will forgive her for taking two precious lives and also forgive her for the pain this caused their loved ones. As a mother, I cannot imagine her grief in not getting to raise her own children. She is going to pay the highest price on this Earth for not leaving a horrible, hopeless situation before this unimaginable event occurred. God Bless all involved and I pray God will give those Grace that need it. He knows who they are. P.S. If Stuart "loved" her, where was he when she was appearing in court for motion hearings, pleading guilty and being sentenced to prison for 18 years? Oh, I forgot, he was getting lawyered up. P.S.S. I don't know Karen or Stuart, nor do I know the victims' families.

Mac got rid of her very fast. If you remember he kept Byron Dela Beckwith protected downtown until the media caught wind. Stuart has a lot of pull!!

Demons will work on Stuart. Hell on earth awaits him.

9:12 Everyone makes mistakes some big some little. Karen made a big mistake. She admitted her guilt, showed remorse, and accepted her fate. This doesn't make me weepy for Karen, but I do feel compassion for her and everyone involved.

Anonymous said...

Yea, Mac's assistant, the red head, was the camera man for Richard Barrett. Mac definately has racist ties!

Anonymous said...

10:20 Exactly. Stuart is probably drunk right now.

The battles you face and the people you face them with are not new. They're all from previous lifetimes. It's a waste of time to worry about and avoid confrontation. You're only making matters worse.

The moment won't last forever. The time to resolve conflict is now.

Today, feel the friction. Let the sparks fly. Really get to the bottom of things, otherwise you're going to have to face them again.

Karen Irby was threatened by Stuart Irby and if she left him and talked about it, he would make sure that she payed for it. Some Women are so afraid of speaking up about there lives at home! Have You ever read the stories about Women and there sheltered lives? I suggest You read articles or google it. Example: Mary Winkler in Selmer Tennessee, her Husband "berated " her and forced her to wear "slutty" costumes for sex. As proof she displayed a pair of high-heeled shoes and a wig to which those in attendance gasped in Court and it was purchased by her husband Matthew Winkler, proven credit card receipts and video footage of him at an Adult XXX Store! So if Anyone is going to go off the bandwagon about Karen Irby, I suggest some People needs to clean under there mats first.

MAC NEEDS TO RETURN ALL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE IRBYS ASAP.

I doubt he will. I hope the folks of Mississippi will remember this case if/when he runs for re-election or a statewide office. Losing in your own county would look pretty bad...

Anonymous said...

McMillin wouldn't be Sheriff today if he didn't place the race card in his own local version of the southern strategy.

Anonymous said...

7:21 Not sure what that has to do with this post, their private lives aside, what does their proclivities have to do with Manslaughter.

Ironghost said...

I'm doubtful Mac's gonna run again, considering how this one will hang over him.

7:21, I agree with you. Those who have so much to say about Karen Irby are probably hiding plenty themselves -- whether in the abuse arena or some other area of their lives. The whole thing is awful and if she was abused, then I hope there will be justice for that. Still, I agree with the sentence but wept for her, her children and the families who lost their precious loved ones. As KF said in a previous post, NO ONE wins in a case like this. The effects are far reaching and devastating. It's ok to exercise the law and approve of it being applied, but I think those of us who haven't had our sins exposed shouldn't throw stones. What's sickening to me is that the masses only care so much about this case because of the Irby name. How many are sitting in prison that we don't pray for or visit or even bother to voice opinions about? Strip away money, privilege and the family name, and we are all flesh and blood, one just like the next... And no, I'm not a democrat, but I do believe that for those with hateful comments and opinions (and I have seen many more of those on the Clarion Ledger than here -- most of these readers seem to have some compassion), it is time to stop pretending we're something better than what we really are.

I am wondering why there were no letters written on Karens behalf by her side of the family. Why no letters from her father, mother, or siblings? Also it was reported that only 2 of the letters written were negative. Where are those 2 letters?

Anonymous said...

9:19am. Simple answer. No all letters written on Karen's behalf have been published.

Even if Stuart was beating her up while they were driving, the responsible thing to do would be to stop the car. It was the out- of-control speeding that turned the Mercedes into a lethal weapon.

Anonymous said...

10:54 I was at an exercise class yesterday with about 25 other people. We discussed the Irby case, and everyone and I mean everyone agreed that driving a car while trying to protect yourself from a man beating the crap out of you and pulling your hair out would be literally impossible. This is why Karen Irby didn't brake and crossed four lanes.

Anonymous said...

Well, she either sped up while he was beating her or was careening down the road at 70-90 before he started beating her. I don't see how braking is any harder than taking your foot off the gas.
I'm not excusing Stuart at all. If you ask me, those two deserve each other.

james Franklin Pogue said...

When Stuart and Karen was in the Mercedes, there was something mentioning that Stuart was on the Passenger side he told Karen that she was a M-F***ing b***ch. He grabbed her hair so hard that a portion of her hair came out of her scalp and he grabbed her so hard pulling at her to make her almost to be in the middle of the console. Then she was trying to reach the brake petal and couldn't at all and he pushed her. Then her head hit the window causing the glass to bust in to pieces and then thats when the Mercedes lost control.

Her hair and scalp by the way was was so bad that the Doctor had to do some surgery on her skin and scalp to put stitches in it.

I really feel for her 100% and I believe that the sentence was too harsh and really shouldn't have been sent to Prison at all.

JUST MY OPINION.

Pouge please go back to the CL.

10:18 am That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Both those blogs provide excellent posts and their commenters are very respectful, insightful and a hell of a lot brighter than a few I've noticed trolling around here lately.

Karen Irby shouldn't have had all the blame put on her. Her Husband Stuart M. Irby should be charged with the Crime he committed and all Karen Irby should have been charged for was a DUI that's all. I don't understand why Stuart M. Irby is going around town enjoying his free ride and getting away scott free. The System is screwed up big time.

Anonymous said...

Ted,

Didn't know you lived in Clinton, MS. Nice to meet you. To disagree with you, Karen was charged appropriately. She didn't just operate a motor vehicle under the influence. She operated a motor vehicle under the influence and killed two people, and according to the DA, injured Stuart.

Given the recent developments, and some of the discussions going on over on other blogs (ipse blogit) it does appear that something is amiss with regards to Stuart being classified as a victim. It is being suggested that he is instead an actor. It is further being suggested that the DA knew about it earlier than they are letting on, based on the criminal file that was examined on ipse blogit. There is also the issue of KI's deposition that appears to have cemented the families belief that Karen was not alone in the taking of these two lives. It is looking more and more like they BOTH played a role.

Then why are you here?

Anonymous said...

12:43 He's here, because like all of us he wants to be. Also, I agree with 10:18's post. I, too, feel exactly the same way about the two other blogs mentioned here. I read them everyday and find them to be very knowledgable, fair, insightful, and respectful. If you don't like them, don't read them.

KF, nice touch with the "Caine Mutiny" clip and even though they may have gotten Queeg; I really don't think they are completey through with Lt. Keefer quite yet.
With that said, all of this is tragic.

Is that a chip on your shoulder? Didn't say I didn't like them nor that I do or do not read them.

There isn't enough regular content on Jimmy Craig's blog to merit much more than a weekly look.

There is definitely a small group of posters at NMC's that are not respectful. I can see why you don't notice that to be the case.

Karen Irby is lucky she lives in a country that allows people to go to prison for getting smashed and killing two innocent people. In some counties, she would have been taken out the next day and shot. Case closed! Lots of money saved on trials, lawyers, judges, not to mention the cost of keeping her in prison for the next 18 years. She made a poor decision that cost two people their lives. Now she has sacrificed her freedom for that decision. Justice has been served!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
