Irony

The event covered by these pictures were alluded to in a letter written by one of Karen Irby's friends to Judge Green. What took place was a couple of years ago Karen and Stuart Irby were on their way to Destin. They took the route most of us take, Hwy 49 to 98 through Mobile. An SUV flipped on Hwy 98 around Lucedale. The two year old girl had unbuckled her seat belt and ironically the mother was trying to fix it when the accident occurred. Child was thrown thirty feet from the SUV and knocked unconscious. The Irby's stopped.

Stuart helped the mother out of the car. The mother was incapacitated but later recovered. Karen performed mouth to mouth on the child. There was a small child that was injured and suddenly had no mother. Karen flew with the child to the hospital and stayed with the child until family members arrived at the hospital. What strikes me is the irony of it all as we all have the capacity in us for good and evil, to do good and make mistakes.

You are so right that all of us have that capacity,good/evil.
I don't necessarily think she is evil because of recent events, just that she is human, made a very bad decision and now she is paying for it. I think that many people should say "that for the grace of God go I."

The difference we are seeing is moral v. legal. We will each decide whether Karen was morally wrong for the events on Old Canton Road. Can any of us cast the first stone?

Legally, the state must act for each citizen of Mississippi for the good of all. Was this done? Yes seems to be the answer. But so many flaws are evident from the first night to the day of the judge's sentence. Was there error in the judge's sentence? No. She was well within the law, and did what she felt she had to do. That must be supported for the integrity of the system.

Where to now? Apparently there will be no further criminal indictments. The elected DA has spoken. What about the other justice system? The feds are most likely not interested. But there is the civil trail.

I believe this will go to trial. I don't think the victims' families will settle. From the words prior to sentencing, they will want a trial at the risk of losing a judgement. Time will tell.

Back to the post, I am sure Karen Irby is a good person. For whatever reason she fell into a most unfortunate position on Old Canton Road. Did she put herself there? We can say yes, and we can say no. It will change nothing.

What is done is done. What has yet to be, will sooner or later be. Hopefully the truth, from the botched accident reconstruction, to the involvement of anyone else in the car, will surface in a civil courtroom. Then, hopefully at the polls if necessary.

Get on with it. She is in jail. She will have enough commentary daily with herself to last all our lifetimes combined. Yes, I try to imagine being in her shoes and guess what, can't imagine. Don't want to imagine. It definitely sucks for her. Honesty is such a lonely word, everyone is so untrue. Honesty is hardly ever heard, but mostly what I need from you.

Notice there is no sign of Stuart in any of the pics.

i guess stuart must have been taking the pictures.

For the life of me, I do appreciate the Irony; one does not go through this life with the expectation of receiving medals for doing good. That is why we are here.

Where are the stories about Dr. Pogue and Dr. Dedousis? KF, we ought to put the human face there. That is the greater good.

Would LOVE to post the stories. I've emailed Farese before and made the same offer I made to Linda Francombe and let me tell you something, Linda was glad she did. She said she was real nervous but felt better after she wrote her posts, then the outpouring of love in the comments really got to her. was cathartic. Don't blame me

she did what any Person would have done.

At the moment she was on the right path, but then there was the path she took.

The beginning of healing on this is Dr. Pogue and Dr. Dedousis. Any more discussion of the Irby's sounds, well, sick.

My focus from this day forward is on the good that the Dr.'s were focused on and their future. My discussion of the Irby's only lessens their memories and spills fuel on the fire of destructive forces. I shall from this moment forth go walk with the angels.

I have never thought Karen Irby was a horrible person, and after reading the letters from her friends, they don't think she is either. This woman made a terrible choice that night by drinking. She plead guilty, showed remorse, and now she is in prison paying for actions. I believe she got bad legal advice, and I will always think she was probably telling the truth about Stuart's part in the wreck. However, it's over. I hope soon we will all move on.

I believe it was Judge Green who noted that she had sent alot of good people to prison. I don't think being a "good person" is the problem. The problem is when "good people" use poor judgement and bad decisions. Then they have to face the consequences, good person or not.

It only takes a few seconds for a lifetime of good deeds to go down. Most homicides are not "planned" in the TV sense; they are premeditated in the legal sense, but didn't involve days of planning to choose the weapon, trap the victim, create an alibi, etc. The intent to kill may arise in an instant, legally.

Karen never made a choice to kill. Her reckless conduct substitutes for the element of "intent". She never got up that morning, had coffee, and decided to snuff out two doctors later that day. She is not Manson-evil, but she is guilty of an offense our legislature has deemed serious enough for her 18 year sentence, and they didn't write a defense into the law that would excuse her for Stuart's role, whatever it was.

Amazing the number of sadists here who want to rub it in regarding Karen's sentence.

Laouida, I personally am SO OVER Stuart Irby and where he goes and what he does.

Of course he's going to enjoy the high life if at all possible! That's pretty much what he does.

I for one do not care, and agree with an earlier poster here that's it's time for people to move on because there's nothing left to see here.

I can't get over the petition. The pic was taken 4/09? Is that really true?

If so, where would would you be if your husband tried to beat you while you were driving? Smiling for a pic at a charity event, or packing your bags and getting the hell out of his home before he was released from the hospital?

None of it makes sense.....

Anonymous said...

9:51 am: Actually, you are welcome to leave, the more mature readership here is done with this issue and justice was served. Am sure that KF is moving on too, nothing to see here but a train wreck. Clean up on aisle 6! Now, whats next KF?

Smith said prosecutors have videotape from the Jackson Country Club showing the couple leaving amicably after having dinner. Never, he said, was there a sign of acrimony as the two headed for their car. Receipts show Karen Irby had two glasses of wine at the country club, which can only mean she had much more somewhere else.

Normally, wouldn't post like to CL, but the article was interesting.

http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20100516/COL0402/5160324/1161/OPINION/DA-says-only-one-Irby-will-face-trial

When asked at the scene how much she had to drink, Smith said she answered: "Plenty."

I got this from the CL, most of the article is a pretty good interview with Smith. There were other things that he claimed, all supporting no charges with Stuart, including eye-witnesses who tried to avoid her before she struck the good Doctors and their claims that they didn't see any fighting, just reckless driving.

Anonymous said...

If there is nothing to Karen Irby's claims that Stuart attacked her in the car, then why did the victims' families come to believe at least some of her account of the events? Do you really think the victims' families are gold diggers who just want to see how much money they can get out of Stuart? Or is it possible that they now believe, based on some actual evidence they have uncovered in the investigation in the civil case, that Stuart was more responsible for the accident than initially thought?

It's also extremely interesting that Judge Tomie Green--the judge who sentenced Karen--actually took some time off of Karen's sentence because she (the judge) believed that Stuart played a role in the accident. I believe the judge said something to the effect that Stuart's involvement would be for another judge in another court to decide. And if I remember correctly, the judge commented about Stuart, "His day is coming." Why would the judge say those kind of things? Is it possible that she (the judge) had seen or read some information by that time to make her believe that there was more to Stuart's role in the accident than initially thought?

Anonymous said...

A lot of things are possible. Absent some stunning factual evidence, Mr. Smith is not going to pursue it. As to why would so and so say....Who knows, people like to say things for attention, to make a point, for a variety of reasons. The judge could have been referring to his Judgment before St. Peter or to the Civil Trial. This case is closed.

Anonymous said...

There are obviously some people who want this case closed for their own reasons. There are others who would simply like to know the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about this situation.

Anonymous said...

Smith doesn't want to pursue the matter because he and his office would look inept.

After dogging the then highly conflicted McMillin-led JPD for shoddy work Smith doesn't want to open his flank to a political opponent who he and surrogate Beasley dogged publicly in the media.

Meanwhile Stuart Irby smiles all the way to the next watering hole and one-night-stand.

Maybe We need to get Sheriff Taylor and Perry Mason to investigate all the cases in Hinds County then! There a better investigator. Get WE TV, Oxygen Channel, Oprah Winfrey, Court TV, Nancy Grace & Jesus to investigate this matter. They would get to the bottom of this.

Encouraging Word

Tuesday 5/18/2010

A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.

~ Proverbs 15:13, NLT

Anonymous said...

The energy of a human being extends 4 feet around him. Which means if you're spending all your time next to negative people, their energy will intermingle with yours and have an effect on you.

Does this mean you should go around judging everyone, putting on a space suit before you leave the house? No. But it does mean it's in your best interest to have good judgment about the people you're allowing into your life.

Today, think about where you're being negatively effected, and where you're negatively effecting others. That's responsibility.

This month many people in hinds county including a judge, police, fireman, and over 20% of all drivers will be DUI just like Ms. Irby. The only reason she went to jail is because of an accident. The others stay free. Why is she different from the others.

Anonymous said...

11:35am is the typical ignorant moron one would expect... Let's see, she killed 2 people; oh well, just another DUI, lets let her go...

& 20% of drivers??? idiot is about as forgiving a description as you deserve.

the ability of this subject to bring out the sub-80 point IQs around here is frankly amazing.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
