JJ readers think Ricky Williams is the biggest bust the Saints ever drafted. Although I will disagree and say it is Sullivan who did nothing but eat his way out of the league from the moment he was drafted, Ricky was the overwhelming choice. If I were to rank them, I would say Sullivan, Knight, Erxleben, Williams, Turnbull, Chandler, and Bush. I think Bush gets a little bit of a bum rap because he is probably the best blocker in the Saints backfield and doesn't mind laying the wood to someone but it doesn't show up in the stats.
Reggie Bush | 37 (18%) |
Ricky Williams | 112 (56%) |
Shawn Knight | 2 (1%) |
Russell Erxleben | 34 (17%) |
Johnathan Sullivan | 9 (4%) |
Wes Chandler | 3 (1%) |
Renaldo Turnbull | 3 (1%) |

What about Royce Smith? Offensive guard who was a first or second pick, got injured and never played.
We might have a winner. He was such a bust I never heard of him although its hard to call it a bust when the guy got hurt. At least he didn't eat eat eat when he got a paycheck.
Ricky Williams has to be far and away the worst bust ever. Hands down, no contest. Why? Because he represents an entire draft - all seven rounds. For an underperforming pothead.
Ricky Williams had knees made of glass and would cry if the wind changed direction. I was never so disgusted as I was when Ditka gave up the farm to get him.
Every press conference that kid gave was like a Lifetime movie. I remember watching one on ESPN and realizing that I was more of a man than the #1 draft pick -- and I am a middle-aged woman.
far and away, Sullivan. 6th overall pick and didn't do a damn thing for us.
Ricky wasn't terrible at all. he had a number of good games and got injured. he ran for over 1000 yards in 2 of 3 season with the saints. he was a disappointment for sure but in no way the biggest bust ever.
and you can't blame Ricky for Ditka and the front office's mistake of trading away an entire draft for him.
Reggie might be able to block but when he's not running out of bounds or running in place it's apparent that tackling him is like tackling a cardboard box. thank goodness Sean Peyton finally saw the light and only gets him the ball in limited circumstances this year. hell, even in punt returns - when he's not too timid to make the fair catch on the 15 leading us to be pinned deep in our own territory - he's 28th out of 29 in the league.
I attribute a great deal of our success this year to an abandonment of any reliance whatsoever on him.
and i don't hate or begrudge him. he's done a lot for new orleans and i appreciate that. he's just not what we expected him to be. maybe in another system he could be used better and i'd be happy to see him go get 2000 all purpose yards somewhere else. i think there's a place in the league for him - just not with us any more.
I still say none of these guys had a particularly impressive bust. B-cup at best.
Repost the Steak poll - you left off the best in town, Olga's.
Don't forget to also vote him in as the Best Egotist and Best Re$ult-le$$ Talker.

Should have included Ditka.
Sorry, I think Russell Erxleben was the biggest bust.
