WLBT video
Bert Case interviewed Sheriff McMillin yesterday about the issue of whether large campaign donations made to him by the Irbys affected the Karen Irby investigation. Mr. Case pointed out in his story they gave $9,000 to Mac in the 2007 election. Unfortunately, Mr. Case didn't bother to report what was in earlier campaign finance reports. If he had, he would have discovered they gave $23,600 to Mac's campaigns over the years. Regular readers of JJ already knew this from an earlier post, Toxicology reports & campaign donations.
It also would have been nice if Mr. Case asked Mac more pointed questions. What did he think he was going to say? "Yes Bert, I did allow their money to affect how she was treated by JPD." Please. How about asking him why he refused to release toxicology reports when most jurisdictions do release them in a timely manner. How about asking him about his stating he wouldn't arrest her because she couldn't go anywhere or how could the county be responsible for her medical bills why she is out on bond? She is still going to therapy and under the care of a doctor yet the county isn't paying for those bills now while she is out on bond. What changed? I'm being harsh and Mr. Case has a reputation over the years for asking tough questions. One wishes he has reported the campaign finance angle in more detail and asked some tougher questions.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Who was driving the Mercedes when it left the country club? Were they stopped prior to the accident?
The Irbys were both drinking and were fighting at the CCJ before they left with Karen driving the Mercedes. Witnesses have said she was weaving in and out passing cars driving very, very fast on Old Canton Road. No, the Mercedues was not stopped until it hit the truck causing the two young doctors to burn to death in it.
When did all the witnesses show up? I didn't remember that from the original Feb. story. I remember the one guy that said he saw the police car in his rearview mirror chasing a car.
There was a comment left by someone a while back stating that when he came out of i believe it might have been a bar he was leaving from. He said a police women had the Irby's pulled over and was talking to who he thought was Mr.Irby.This was just before the accident. After reading that i did post asking him to please report this.
I believe it was a patron of Time Out sports bar who made that statement. Wonder what happened to him?
While many, myself included, would have liked for Bert to ask more pointed and direct questions there is some value in letting Sheriff Campaign Contribution just talk -- because we all know he will.
Watch the video closely. McMillin isn't saying that Karen didn't receive special considerations, he says she got the same as Melton.
McMillin's drawing of a stretched equivalency between Melton and Karen Irby -- somehow as if he believes the community at-large will approve even though Melton wasn't involved in the drunken and reckless taking to two lives -- was a serious mistake.
What McMillin did was confirm that not only was Karen handled with the kid gloves not extended to the commoner but, more importantly, our Hinds County Sheriff revealed that he does indeed dole out differing levels of preferential treatment to people of stature in Hinds County.
I have heard that the Irby's fight alot.If they were fighting at the Country Club and she was acting a fool i hope that the people that are a witness come forth and report this. How could there be a defense for those find of actions. It appears that she goes Crazy Mad with Jealously. But with this out burst she took the lives of two other people.
And does he have any short comings?
Why is it always about her faults?
because she incinerated two people, not him.
Everyone should keep in mind that McMillin is a master at misdirection. His saying that he hasn't had any communications with "her [Karen's] attorney" is another of those neatly packaged throw away statements he predictably tosses out to confuse the local media bloodhounds in order to get them off his scent. That doesn't mean that he has not spoken with Stuart, Charles, their attorneys or any number of other possible go-betweens who could be shuttling messages between the parties and the Sheriff.

See indictment. It says Karen Irby was consuming alcoholic beverages, driving at an excessive speed, and indiscriminating passing other motorists on the road. The authorities obviously have witnesses that saw her drinking and driving.
Well, no one can say that JPD Chief McMillin didn't give people special privileges during his short time in the job. The overlay precinct downtown where less than 1% of all Jacksonians live was a big time sop to a very small group of beneficiaries.
Let me give you a hand. Here is the indictment.
What Bert also didn't do was point out they were among his top three donors.
Very sloppy.
We should still give Bert some credit though for going in there and asking the question. Haven't seen anyone else push the issue. Bert has covered enough big stories real well over the years to earn my pass for not being perfect. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what McMillin is doing. If Bert breaks the story when the other shoe drops then all of this will be forgotten.
That is why I was a little surprised.
I agree, 10:01.
It is no secret that McMillin never answers questions he doesn't want to answer. He always has a sarcastic and curt way of dealing with those who dare ask him certain things. He can be quite brusque and harsh.
I think Bert handled his questions the only way possible.
I used to admire and support McMillin until he started acting so pompous.
Yes, she was driving at the time of the accident, but Stuart was driving initially, and the cops that stopped them thought he was too buzzed to drive, and asked Karen to. But for a few minutes, it could have been HIM driving and killing.
Where is our local Mothers Against Drunk Driving chapter? Where is Tricia Raymond? Maybe Bert Case or some other member of our local press can get Tricia on the record to comment specifically about these senseless avoidable deaths. Have you read MADD's suggestions how to help reduce the deadly statistics that result from drunk driving?
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO LOWER THESE STATISITICS * Don’t drink and drive.
* Never get in a car with someone who has been drinking.
* Be a designated sober driver.
* Wear your safety belt. Make sure your riders do too.
* Properly secure children in child safety seats.
* Be a responsible host. Do not let your guests drive after drinking and never serve alcohol to anyone under the age of 21.
* Support drunk driving and underage drinking prevention laws and victim’s rights legislation by contacting your elected officials.
* Report drunk drivers immediately to law enforcement.
* GET INVOLVED. Call 601.939.0233 or 800.368.6233 for more information.
* Check out MADD MS at madd.org/ms
Is MADD only going to make noise about drunk driving when the victims were not killed by well known, wealthy people sporting prestigious local names? Is MADD only going to comment when their current director doesn't have previous connections to the offender and their family? Is Irby money silencing every one of the watchdogs in this community?
What the hell are you waiting for Tricia? Why should anyone get involved if MADD is going to pull its punches. Are you afraid of offending the country clubbers?
Next time MADD asks you to support their legislation or contribute your money to bolster their coffers everyone would do well to reconsider. Because this situation proves that when criticizing a drunk driver gets too close to friendly donors and too politically dicey MADD will remain, no pun intended, dead silent.
I wouldn't believe anything from the people at Time Out. They all suck. They are just glad that they aren't in the news this time.
Still miss you Eddie!!
Any "Witness" from Time Out is worthless!!!
That's for sure, the only DWI my friend got was when WE LEFT "Time Out"
They certainly know the police dept. number by heart in that place.
MADD needs to fire Tricia Raymond and close their offices in Mississippi. They are completely worthless and do not actually do what the organization was designed to do. Hell, go to their website and see what they "CLAIM" to do for "victims".
They are truly a joke and the organization should be dissolved.
Mac's endorsement will really hurt Crisler, just watch.
Word on the street is that the Irbys had dinner at Crechale's Tuesday evening, May 12 and that she walked in without assistance - no crutches, no boot, no wheelchair. They were dining with another couple.
word on the street is wrong. she is wearing an ankle bracelet.
Anybody else notice how eerily silent the Northside Sun has been?
They don't cover this kind of stuff. really don't.
Emmerich likely had too many of his paid subscribers there at the JCC drinking alongside the Irbys that night. Of course he's not going to touch something that would slow the flow from his gravy train to a trickle.
No, pretty sure Kingfish is right.
Provided some of the rumors are true re: blue lights, being pulled over to switch drivers, generous treatment, etc. Is it possible civil litigation could be filed not only against the City of Jackson, but directly against Malcolm McMillan?
does an ankle bracelet imply "house arrest"?
I don't know if she had the ankle bracelet Tuesday evening, but I do have an eyewitness account of Karen walking into Crechale's un-assisted; no wheelchair, no crutches, and no boot.
Sorry. Not her. Impossible.
She has an ankle bracelet. Don't know what color it is or if a designer one was available.
KF, do you know for certain that Karen is on " house arrest" for certain? I would expect the perimeters of the ankle bracelet to allow her to go to medical appointments.
What do you know about Hinds Co's monitoring system?
Did you call Bob? Stuart could have been at Crechale's with someone else...his looks are more distinctive and harder to confuse.
Got curious about ankle bracelets and monitoring criminals. Found out there are many different kinds...GPS, radio transmitted, cell phone transmitted, home telephone linked, and pocket computer types.
Who monitors and how varies as well as the costs.
KF, what do you know about Hinds CO's system and how effective it is?
I found out from law enforcement sources she got her's on Wednsday, two days after she posted bond. It does take time to set those things up as they have to install some equipment in the home so she could've gone to dinner without the bracelet on one or two nights. No condition saying she couldn't so its not that big of a deal to me.
From what I found out her bracelet keeps her within a 150-200 yard radius or so. this is typical for such bracelets as I am told.
My main concern is suppose she had an ankle tatoo. Would look really tacky covered up by said bracelet and even worse if the colors don't match.
Thanks KF, on the monitoring info...might be hard to set up in Eastover as all sorts of electronic/satellite/radio problems in that neighborhood but glad she can sun and visit a neighbor or two ...sounds like the radio or telephone type.Might want to read NOLA's experience with those.
The fashion worry is Karen will be so limited on summer pant lengths and colors! And, the cute shoes might never be noticed!
Why don't you all back off a little. Really no need for the little comments.
