"Jackson Needs Truth and Transparency Now — Join Us?
The false campaigning, flyers, mailers, anonymous posts on blogs, radio appearances and so on in the 2009 city elections in Jackson has encouraged many of us to get together and call for more truth and transparency in local government, campaigns, media and on personal blogs.
So today on Elction Day, the JFP is announcing the Jackson Truth and Transparency Initiative as a community project going forward. We invite you to join us, regardless of your political leanings. We want your ideas, your energy and your support for this very important initiative.
Going forward, we hope the project becomes a way to encourage Jacksonians to stop spreading so many falsehoods and to factcheck information before putting it out there. We hope to develop a "best practices" for local blogs to voluntarily sign on to pledge that they will not spread unsubstantiated rumors and operate as breeding grounds for anonymous posters to spread lies for their own personal benefit and vendettas. We want to encourage more people to post on Web sites under their own names wherever possible and avoid anonymity, and the abuses that often accompanies it (much as people already do on Facebook.....posted by ladd on 05/19/09 at 02:46 PM "
I've never seen a publication that smears people, gets its facts consistently wrong, outright lies, and slants its coverage the way that rag does. Then there is her latest habit of ripping off this blog which she seems to have developed in the last few weeks. Donna Ladd is the last person in this town who should be calling for truth and transparency from others. I have a feeling this is more about her trying to control the competition from other blogs that didn't exist a few years ago. Looks like she did learn a few tricks from Gannett after all.
As far as I'm concerned she can take her intitiative and shove it up her ass.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Oh snap!
Crap!
Knock, knock, knock
"Who's there?"
"Hello pot? This is the kettle calling. You're black."
What a freaking joke. Someone get rid of her and put us our of our misery.
Thanks alot. Now you gauranteed her google alert will go off and I'll get a long email from her whining about threats of violence against her on this website.
I thought you had to include the words "flames" or "down into" or some combination thereof to cause a whining outburst........
ANything, and I do mean ANYTHING, can cause an outburst. Just make sure you post any such communication, King, and you'll be guaranteeing that she'll stop doing it. It's only the complicity of others in not revealing her true colors that keeps her thinking she can get away with such.
Well I dare say KF that Donna Ladd isn't the only person in this town who wants to remove anonymity from the local blogosphere. We also have some major control freaks downtown who loathe anyone who challenges their bullshit.
So yes it is all about control. But it is not only Ladd who wants to restrain dissent.
Nope, you are right and I have something else in mind for dealing with the others.
They don't like being challenged and that includes the CL.
Technically, I never advocated getting rid of her "Soprano-style." I just asked someone to get rid of her.
Maybe she can go the way of the Dodo .....
Is there a nutshell explanation of the bad blood between Ladd and KF? I have seen it numerous times, but what is the genesis?
There is no bad blood. KF is an independent.
So yes it is all about control. But it is not only Ladd who wants to restrain dissent.
STOP PISSING ON MY CARPET!
Full disclosure here: I got banned from there. Matt Saldana, a reporter, smeared me on the forums so I cussed him out. Got banned. No problem with that. I broke the rule. I apologized for it also.
However, this blog does engage in media criticism. that means all the media and the CL has gotten the highest number of critical posts. If I criticize her or her rag its because she trashes people (especially women) and the CL on a regular basis. She goes way past criticism and gets personal with it. See what she did to Marshall Ramsey and Leah Rupp. Or go look on the JFP website how she treated Marcella Cartegna. Just from fact checking their stories from time to time I've found they get their facts wrong just as much as the CL does and slant their stories. Everything is a conspiracy and anyone who criticizes her is a racist.
I nailed them committing slander one time on the Jena 6 story and fully documented it. I'd actually been nice and sent them a notice a week before I did so asking them to change it as it was wrong. they didn't do it so I exposed the libel. Next thing you know she sends me a really nasty email saying I picked on the writer cuz she was black. um yeah. I politely explained why I wrote the post. Didn't matter, she threw a tantrum again and said don't ever contact her again, which I won't. I've caught her in numerous lies on her website and any read of posts about them on this blog will show them to be the case.
the funny thing is, most of the time when I criticize them its because other people have tipped me off or emailed me screen shots. Except for elections when I keep up with all the media, I don't go over there to read everything. Its usually sent to me by others.
I don't criticize the tv stations as much because frankly, they tend to be much more responsible than the JFP or CL.
JFP is NOT, and I repeat NOT a journalistic endeavor. It is advocacy. Advocacy for their way or the highway. Journalism is unbiased. Advocacy is not. The only thing free about the JFP is it's middle name.
Journalism is unbiased.
I have to disagree with that. I'm fully with Ladd that journalists are biased and kudos to her for admitting it.
The unbiased myth is killing our country. Read Moyar's Triumph Forsaken for a well documented example.
Of course David Halberstam is one of Ladd's heroes who walked on water and through his biased lens she still believes came reporting that was more fact than fiction.
How is the "unbiased myth killing our country"?
You think that is killing us?
While I would give you that journalists are biased... I would submit to you that if a journalist shows their bias, then they move to the advocacy position, and forsake what a journalist *should* be.
The problem with advocacy journalism is it doesn't fully examine the story but reports only one side.
there have been several times I started to write something, had my own position, started looking at both sides while I did my research and found out well, what I thought was true wasn't.
The prudential story over there is a good one. If I had written that story, i would have included the Prud's brief and interviewed their lawyer and also talked to an insurance guy about how the process actually works on these type of insurance contracts.
Here is what I expect: I expect a reporter to have biases. What I also expect is for them to be professional and report the facts, that includes talking to both sides on an issue. I had a liberal law school professor (Page at MC) who could argue the conservative position just as well as the liberal position. You get the idea.
One of the best things a reporter can do is have a list of go to experts on different subjects: finance, markets, real estate, local political history, legal issues, insurance, etc. Then when you have to cover a story, you can call them up even if you don't quote them and get a quick explanation. Much better than trying to do a google search only.
I've never been to the JFP website, so what is Ladd's bias? If everyone who criticizes her is racist, does that mean she is black or white?
Killing us (our country) through ignorance because our dumbed down population is unable to distinguish between the two constructs.
"Journalists" and their editors cross that invisible advocacy line of yours every single day. It isn't a matter of showing bias, they live bias and bias can be found in nearly everything they write.
When a journalist is lazy, that is advocacy. The opposite is also true. Kingfish, for example, does a ton of research but he still approaches everything he writes from a biased mindset. He can't help it. He tries like hell to consider everything but he is still shaped by his life experiences.
There is no purity. Every endeavor is advocacy. Some advocates do a much better job than others managing the dilemma within their writing.
You can decide what you like and dislike about the JFP. I'm certainly not advocating for their agenda. But Ladd should be given credit for not claiming to be unbiased. Ding her for her agenda, if you like, but don't ding her for being something she doesn't claim to be.
That is why I post the research up here as much as possible.
I have my biases but I make an effort to look at it from the other side as well. Why? It makes the story better. One of my reporter friends only reads BBC, Huffpo and Kos and her arguments are so ridiculously easy to puncture because she is never exposed to anything else.
However, when I write a story about say, Melton's taxes, or the bonds, I have a bias in favor of the truth and am fully prepared to write something I might disagree with if its good information for the reader.
This stuff about bias is overblown anyway. Its usually used by advocacy journalists to justify their sloppy reporting.
Take the Fisher story I did. The JFP, WLBT, WAPT, CL all covered their suit against Toyota. Fit their template of evil REpoublicans and corporations screwing over black peoplel yet again.
However, I went and entered their name in the UCC search on the SOS website. Then the judgements appeared. Went to courthosue and shazam, nearly 30 judgements and liens for nearly $2 million. Then I went to Pacer.
Made their suit look a little different in light of that information. That is not bias on my part, this is simply checking them out in full. Their cause of action may be a valid one and if so, then Toyota should pay for it. But the reader deserved to know about their lengthy history of stiffing everyone in sight in what looked like fraud. That was not a bias, just reporting the facts so you could reach your own fully informed conclusion
The internet search on them took all of five minutes. The courthouse trip? 30 minutes. We are not talking about heavy duty research here.
I thought they called it Jackson FREE Press cause it didn't cost nothin' to get a copy.
Crazy about Dr Page. It's a shame MC lost him to Florida.
By the way, is it a coincidence she starts spouting this stuff after the Irby mess heats up? this blog has been pretty critical of the Irbys and their connections. Natalie Irby is her good friend and former employee.
Now suddenly Ladd wants responsible blogs. Keep in mind her first headline about the wreck didn't mention the doctors' deaths.
Didn't mention the deaths of the two doctors? That's astounding.....
Why does this remind me so much of Nancy Pelosi calling for a torture truth commission? Ladd would end up hoisted on her own lengthy petard if this nonsense ever went anywhere.
Which it won't.
And yes, the Irby's have used some influence to affect some of the media coverage. The print coverage and tv coverage has been very different.
