The Chris McDaniel campaign submitted an affidavit of improper or irregular votes in Madison County to the Mississippi Republican Party and Thad Cochran campaign today. The McDaniel campaign said last week that all Republican votes in Madison County from the June 24 runoff election should be rejected. The McDaniel campaign argued in its election challenge:

Hinds County Public Schools settle case.
The Hinds County School District settled a lawsuit over a Terry High School football coach's alleged sexual affair with an underage student. U.S. Magistrate John Roper approved the confidential settlement. The complaint charged assistant football coach Damein Anderson had sex with the female student at school and at motel rooms in the Jackson area. Earlier post on civil lawsuit. The plaintiff also claims Mr. Anderson sent sexually explicit messages and nude pictures to the student's cellphone. JJ reported in November:

Kior loses more money, dicusses possible bankruptcy.
Kior announced in its quarterly SEC filings it continued to lose money. Kior stated it lost $24 million in the second quarter and $629 million since the company was was founded in 2007. Kior is currently exploring a sale of the company. The company currently owes the Mississippi Development Authority $75 million for a loan used to build a plant in Columbus.

Dear Unclaimed Freight: Come claim your trash.
A nice shout-out goes to Unclaimed Freight in Pearl. We've all seen the going out of business, buy & sell gold, pizza special and other signs that populate the right of ways. Well, Unclaimed Freight decided to really trash Lakeland Drive this morning. They stuck around 50 signs from St. Dominics to the Pearl River. Many were only a few feet apart from each other. McDonald's, Cups, Penns, none were spared. Nothing like driving down Lakeland and seeing a bunch of bright yellow trashy signs. There was something that was really funny:

Update on the Lake to Nowhere
It should be Lake out in the middle of nowhere but it doesn't roll of the tongue as easily. The Madison County Journal reported Madison County ran into a little problem with the Sulpher Springs lake project. While they were spending all kinds of money on engineers and other fees, it seems the site has a sandy bottom:

John Mary pleads guilty in nursing home scandal.
John Mary pleaded guilty to one count of "conspiracy to post messages through electronic media for purpose of causing injury to any person" in Madison County Circuit Court today. Prosecutor Bryan Buckley presented a bill of information to Judge William Chapman. Mr. Mary admitted he engaged in the conspiracy with Rick Sager, Mark Mayfield, and of course, Clayton Kelly. The 61 year-old John Mary lives in Hattiesburg.

JMAA board gives itself Iphones and Ipads
The Board of Trustees for the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority voted in April to provide cellphones and Ipads to all board members. The board voted for the perk even though JMAA was forced to raise landing fees in March and revenues lag 2% behind budgeted projections. Previous boards did not provide this benefit to board members. The board passed the resolution at the end of the April meeting:

Sojourner finally files waiver request. However....
State Senator Melanie Sojourner (R-House of Seale) finally filed her request for a waiver with the Secretary of State last Friday. Secretary of State Elbert Hosemann fined her $500 in July for her failure to turn in her annual campaign finance report that was due at the end of January. Ms. Soujourner is the only legislator who has not submitted the annual report in 2014.There is one slight distinction, however, that must be made about the waiver request.

McDaniel files complaint with MS GOP
State Senator Chris McDaniel filed a complaint of an election contest with the Executive Committee of the Mississippi Republican Party.

State Senator Chris McDaniel is expected to announce at a 2:30 PM press conference today that he is filing a formal election challenge over the June 24 Republican Senate run-off election. Watch the press conference live on WLBT's website. Mr. McDaniel must first file a challenge with the Executive Committee of the Mississippi Republican Party. He can file a challenge in the Hinds County after he exhausts his appeals with the Republican Party.
2:45: State Senator McDaniel and attorney Mitch Tyner just stepped up to the podium.
2:57: yes, Mr. Tyner did say Mr. McDaniel won by 25,000 votes.
Sierra Club makes deal with Mississippi Power.
The Sierra Club just announced an agreement with Mississippi Power over the Kemper plant:
Copiah County: True the Vote ignored the judge.
Remember all of those incident reports filed by True the Vote last week? Copiah County asked Judge Nancy Atlas to throw them all out of court. True the Vote submitted 120 pages of incident reports completed by "volunteers". These "incident reports" include a statement by two volunteers that they could not find the courthouse in Jefferson County as it had a different address than the one listed on the county website.

A sea of black and gray swept upon the banks of Court Street last Thursday. It wasn't a convention of Oakland Raiders groupies, but lawyers, a whole mob of lawyers, dedicated to slugging it out over True the Vote's Lawsuit against Secretary of State (SOS) Delbert Hosemann, the Republican Party of Mississippi (MSGOP), and several counties. The Texas non-profit public interest group sought a preliminary injunction against the defendants over the issue of the redaction of birth dates from the poll books used in the Republican Senate primary and runoff elections last month. The court did not rule on the preliminary injunction but requested briefs in the next two to three weeks.

Marion resident sues Logan's over alleged choking by diner. (Video)
A Marion County resident filed suit a year ago against Logan's Roadhouse in U.S. District Court after he was allegedly assaulted and choked by a patron in the Hattiesburg restaurant. He claims several individuals harassed him and his two friends, called him n*****r, and then commenced the physical attack. He states he asked the manager several times to stop the harassment but the manager told him to move to another table. The police eventually arrived and arrested the alleged assailant.

The Mississippi Supreme Court took no action on two contempt of court motions filed against Vicksburg attorney Michael Winfield by Vicksburg Healthcare. The court held a hearing on July 24 to decide whether to hold Mr. Winfield in contempt after he failed to make payments as ordered by the court on April 30. The court ordered the wayward attorney to pay $500 in sanction monthly installments of $100 and attorney's fees to Vicksburgh Healthcare in monthly installments as well. Mr. Winfield paid the sanctions and fees in full a few days before this hearing- after Vicksburg filed its motions for contempt. Mr. Winfield drew the sanctions and a serious ass-chewing from the court when he failed to appear at a show cause hearing on April 30. Mr. Winfield appeared at the hearing forty-five minutes late- after the court ordered the clerk to contact Mr. Winfield as the justices waited. A full court presided over the July 24 hearing. Mr. Winfield is the brother of jailed Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield.
